We switched our property management from a large company to Shoreline this year. We couldn't be happier! Even before we had made the decision to go with Shoreline, Jennifer had pulled our listing and at our first meeting gave us several ideas for how to improve the property. With the year being what it has been, in April we weren't sure if we'd even have renters...now we're fully booked through October...which is an experience we've never had before. Disappointed in our recent stay due to housekeeping issues. Shoreline called us to say the property was ready and we could check in early. We thought great news....but we were sadly mistaken. Beds appeared to be made, but the sheets underneath were filthy (sand, hair, debris). My family was uncomfortable the first night...sleeping on the couch to avoid the bedding. My daughter complained of being itchy and it was very stressful. I spoke to the Shoreline and asked for a concession since the price of our vacation was over $6,500 and at that rate you'd expect at the very leastclean sheets - especially since we were told early check in was an option - which means it was intentionally rushed. Shoreline did send housekeeping but they did not arrive until late in the afternoon on the second day-- forcing my tired kids to skip nap because I was very concerned about potential bed bugs. We also had a few concerns around rusty nails/rusty hooks in the pool area, and the top rail to the bunk bed being held loosely by tape and zip ties...which were never acknowledged or addressed. I sent an email with photos and called. I missed one call from Shoreline..called back and never received a follow up after leaving a message with Dawn. Also had a maintenance man come to change the air filter which woke up my infant later in the week. All in all just not relaxing from start to finish. At the very least a call back would be appropriate. Extremely disappointed. I will note a professional came to clean the mattress that was of greatest concern. There were no bed bugs found. A Stark Contrast to Their Own Promises !! My parents rented this property for our long-awaited family reunion -- 14 of us, including relatives who flew in from Hawaii. We were excited to spend the week together in what looked like a beautiful and spacious home, but the experience was unfortunately full of red flags -- from safety concerns to management's dismissive response. Serious Safety & Cleanliness Concerns: * The deck had multiple exposed nails, which caused injuries -- including a cut foot. * The pool gate slammed shut with extreme force. It actually struck my young niece, leaving her hurt and shaken. * The outdoor bathroom was dirty and unusable from the start. * There were visible roaches in the home when we arrived. * The outdoor shower, which was advertised as a feature, was filthy and completely unusable. Disruptive Conditions That Weren't Disclosed: * Construction was happening on both sides of the house all week, bringing loud noise and disruption every day. * We were never informed about this in advance, even though the reservation had been made months prior. Unacceptable Response from Management: When we shared these issues, the president of the management company responded with zero accountability. Rather than showing any concern, he told us we should've reported safety hazards like protruding nails during our vacation. After we left, their technician confirmed that eight nails needed to be repaired -- validating our concerns. Instead of offering any resolution, the president accused us of "extortion tactics," which was insulting and unprofessional considering the legitimate issues we raised. A Stark Contrast to Their Own Promises: What made it even more frustrating is how the company promotes itself. Their website claims: "Experience the Shoreline Difference and see why we are rated #1 in Guest Satisfaction! As our guest, you are our family and will be treated to the best in hospitality!" That was far from our experience. We were treated more like an inconvenience than "family," and safety clearly wasn't a priority. Bottom Line: For over $6,500, we expected a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. What we got was a property with hazards, misrepresented amenities, and a management team unwilling to take responsibility. My wife and I are Beach House Owners that after 20 years with another Rental Company on the Outer Banks switched to ShorelineOBX because of their family owned size of 75 homes and the high standard of decor and cleanliness that they demand of their owners. We have found that smaller is better on so many levels from attention to cleaning to maintenance details. Deep cleaning occurred on a high level with ShorelineOBX and mandatory winter maintenance protocol was followed to prevent issues from occurring with the Beach House during the rental season. read more

WARNING: DO NOT rent with shoreline OBX. My husband and I were scammed this weekend with outrageous and unjustified fees (over $500) after our stay. We received an email on our drive home 6 minutes before their offices closed, claiming there was evidence of smoking in the house, which was COMPLETELY false. We were there with our one year old baby and dog and absolutely did not smoke at any point. To make matters worse, they completely screwed us on our drive home by draining our account, leaving us without any money for gas. We originally thought this had to be a mistake on their part, so we called 2 minutes before closing only to speak to a nasty & condescending woman who called us liars and had nothing to say other than "that's their policy". Then she very kindly hung up on us and the office was conveniently closed when we tried to call back. The house was filthy from the moment we walked in, dirty plates in the cabinets, sand on bedsheets, a dead roach in the kitchen, etc. All things we were willing to look past to enjoy our stay. The checkout procedure included making sure the house was free of any dog hair, so we spent HOURS vacuuming and cleaning to make sure it was nice for the next people, or at least better than when we arrived. Not to mention, part of the rental costs already included a $200 cleaning fee and $250 fee before arriving to our vacation on top of purchasing cleaning supplies to clean their house (which was requested as part of checkout procedure). So long story short, don't rent with shoreline obx unless you want to be completely robbed dry of any money they can get their greedy little hands on. read more

The house we stayed in was located in Corolla, NC. A beautiful neighborhood and very close to the beach. However, we will never use this rental company again. Prior to our arrival we confirmed with the rental company that the house would be cleaned. That clearly did not happen. I can only discuss the experience we had in our bedroom. There were 9 bedrooms in the house so you can probably multiply these issues by 9. Our bedroom was filthy and disgusting. There was trash on the floor. I made the mistake of looking under the bed and found some popcorn and spare change along with more trash. The pillows on the bed were gross and discolored. I wouldn't have felt comfortable using these pillows even with 3 pillowcases. The curtains in the room were too small for the window so they didn't close properly. The room stayed bright all night. There was also a rug on the floor that smelled so bad we had to put it outside with the discolored and stained pillows. The worst part of our experience (yes there is more) was the bathroom. There was hair all over the floor and in the shower. The shower was also filthy. I've included a photo of the bathroom floor. Our room also had a flying insect problem and there was a hornets nest on the deck next to our room. To add insult to injury, the tv in our room didn't work. We would have been happy watching the TV upstairs in the living room, but the couch had so many stains on it -we sat outside in plastic chairs instead. We called this management company to complain. This didn't seem high on their priority list and they never called us back like they promised to do. We ended up buying a swiffer wetjet to clean the floors in our room. There was so much dirt built up on our bedroom and bathroom floors that it was actually tough to push the mop. After using almost the entire box of the wetjet refills, we gave up. To summarize: Corolla was a great town. The house we stayed in was in a great neighborhood. We had lots of fun with our family at the beach. However, every time we went back to the house, our vacation experience was ruined. Be cautious of this rental company. Still no follow up phone call from them that they promised. Maybe tomorrow? Although the house was beautiful, the sofas and chairs had some stains. I brought light blankets to protect the sofa. Also, i wanted be certain that I could sit on something clean. i didn't realize that I should call the office to report stained sofas and chairs. My husband and I spent most of Friday before leaving cleaning this house. It took hours and we vacuumed everything and wiped down the counters. The cleaning folks had minimal work, I received an email that I have been charged for $275 for sofa cleaning on furniture that already stained when we arrived. i am so livid right now. How could two older people using blankets to keep the furniture safe soil furniture in two weeks? We brought our dogs and they even had their own blankets. i brought vinyl matts for their dog bowls. i went above and beyond to prevent any sort of damage to this place. i didn't realize that I should have taken photos of every item in that house that had problems. We paid a lot to rent this place and don't enjoy being accused of dirtying the sofas. it's unbelievably insulting. I'm hoping this issue can be resolved, but be forewarned and photograph everything. This false accusation has totally ruined my memories of that house and the company. read more

Truly an awful experience with Shoreline OBX Vacation Rentals. Terrible customer service in which they hung up on us multiple times, were rude and disrespectful, and said they had to "be on watch for us". My responsible friends (young adults- 25 and older) and I simply wanted to enjoy a weekend at the beach to celebrate a birthday and they evicted us out of the house and called the cops until we left the premise... all with no refund. We just spent the last week in a shorelineobx rental in Corolla, NC. The rental home was extremely clean upon arrival and in great shape. We couldn't find the baby gates listed in the rental description and needed them for our toddlers and shoreline brought them over almost immediately after requesting them. We hired Shoreline to manage our Beach Cottage with the summer rentals. The first year was fine with the exception of broken lamps, filthy carpets. It was when we decided to sell the cottage before the beginning of our second season things changed. We never got an accurate accounting record for the final rents that we were supposed to receive credit for. We requested a breakdown many times over a period of 3 months and still have not gotten a response. They also took almost all of our security deposit without a true explanation of the reason. My rental was a week in nags head, only with family on a beautiful beach, the home was beautiful as the owners took great care, however beware of the rental company, I had to empty the dishwasher and throw out some old cigarettes that were in a Pepsi bottle. After we checked out I received an email from the rental company who accused me of stealing pillows. They then charged my credit card after I tried to contact them the receptionist stated she did not want to hear from me that she was busy then hung up on me. This actually put a burden on me, as I am a healthcare worker who has recently worked through this crazy pandemic. I really was disheartened with the so called southern personality and the lack of courtesy. I would never take anyones pillows, especially used pillows. This was the first time we have used Shoreline and everything worked out fine. This was a last minute trip for us so didn't book until just a few weeks ago. Process was trouble free. We had one issue with the AC on the upper floor, reported it and within an hour Shoreline had someone there to access and immediately sent over and installed a few window AC's which worked perfectly. We will never use this company again. Upon arrival, our rental home was filthy, and in need of desperate safety repairs. We requested a new home almost immediately (within 2 hours of getting in the home) and received the run around from laura, who told us that she was not authorized to do that and we'd have to wait until her manager was in. Funny, as we later discovered she is the owner. When we finally were able to get a straight answer on a move, we were told that we'd have to pay full price because they were doing everything they could to fix the issues. Here is a brief list of issues we've had: Mold and mildew in bathrooms Broken dining chairs which resulted in injury to an eleven year old in the party Broken patio chairs Fence around pool was in disrepair and had rusty exposed nails Carpets full of pet hair and stains. (My husband used he vacuum in the house and had to empty the canister twice because of pet hair) Broken railing on bunk bed Exposed outside electrical outlets Dangling outside floodlight Heavily stained carpets and couch Broken microwave handle Broken blinds Pillows heavily stained by body fluids from other guests This list is certainly not exhaustive. We've spent 4 out of our 7 day vacation dealing with the company and attempting repairs. Their defense was that they rely on their cleaning contractors to report any issues, but it's obvious that they do not check their properties on a regular basis. We were falsely accused of harassment for using a phone number listed as a contact for the company to report these issues. It should also be noted that they expect one person to clean 4-5 hours in a 6 hour period. They misled us on the beach access. We let them know upfront that two members of our party were young children and we needed easy access to the beach. While within walking distance, it was certainly not easy. This review is not complete, and we will be looking into legal recourse. read more

This is our sixth year vacationing in Corolla, each year we base the selection of our home on price an amenities, without even a mere consideration for the rental agency; however, next year we will certainly be back with Shoreline!! Our phenomenal experience started out with Leigh at the check-in office. Leigh didn't rush us through a process but rather spent time to get to know us and offer suggestions specific to our party size and family make-up, similar to well-experienced concierge who is selfless and wants nothing but the best experience for her guests. When we arrived at the house the TV wasn't working (as with all houses you can find issues if you look) but with the World Cup in action we really preferred to have a large TV that would fit the entire family around . . . within a short time Braxton (AKA Mathew McConaughey's son) from Shoreline showed up to fix the TV. What a character! the Southern hospitality was genuine and he made us all feel at ease and laugh!! There is something to be said about people who enter your life briefly, but have a significant impact because of their positive energy and charm . . . this is why we will continue to use Shoreline for years to come!!!! read more

We were checked into a property that was mostly flooded out, without warning. At check in at 9 am at their offices in Kitty Hawk, they let us know that the first level of the home had taken on some water in the heavy rain a few days prior, but it was dry and cleaned. Upon arrival to the home at 4 pm in Corolla, the property was flooded out, the pool didn't have an operational pump for several days, we had to walk through brown water to access the pool area and the volleyball court was also under brown water. None of this was communicated to us at the time of check in. We spent the rest of the afternoon and the next day communicating with Shoreline OBX and the pool guy that showed up about the state of the property, and Shoreline had asked us to be patient with the receding water and pool situation. It rained again Sunday and we called Shoreline on Monday am asking what our options were to move to another property. They said they only had 1 place we could move to but was not comparable to what we had for size and amenities, but was all they had. We stuck it out in order to walk to the beach across the street. It rained again and the property flooding worsened and the first level took on water again. Finally by Wednesday we had to move to that alternative property. Shoreline offered us, in writing, a 50% refund for the nights we stayed at the original property. BUT, they then tried to charge us double the nightly rate for the new place, in order for them to not lose any money. We would not agree to that, asked them to come to the property to discuss in person, which they said no. Then, the morning we were leaving (2 days later) sent us an email saying they decided not to refund us the money. So not only would they not refund us what they offered in writing, but they charged us double the nightly rate for the 2nd home. We refused to sign the contract for the new home based on the rate, and never did. They will not refund us to this day, and our trip was Aug 2018. I would NOT used Shoreline OBX again based on their business practices and certainly will NOT recommend. read more

I would not recommend renting Shoreline OBX's vacation home Life's a Breeze OSO-5. Upon our arrival, we found the house to be rather dirty. Kitchen cabinets had food splattered on them. Bathroom cabinets had toothpaste dripped down them. The floors needed a good mopping. Baseboards were dirty, cobwebs hung about, and the entire house dusty. We had no wifi for the first 4 days of our stay. No hot water for the first day. The hot tub was not properly working. Master bed was broken. But probably the worst of all was the roaches...we killed at least 10 during our stay. Shoreline did send maintenance out to the property several times. They did spray for the pests; however, the problem persisted throughout the week. While they were friendly and responsive, we were offered zero compensation for the inconvenience. We had to stay at the home for several of the appointments - if we hadn't been there the pest control company could not have treated. My husband also had to help move the fridge so they could spray behind it. We spent hours on the phone dealing with multiple issues. I really wasn't planning on spending my vacation tending so someone else's home. It really is a shame, because this could be a beautiful home. Whoever owns it should be ashamed of themselves. read more

We had to check in at the actual rental agency. This seems outdated. We were told they were doing an open house of the home in Corolla we were renting (Nirvana) so we were not to arrive early. Upon entering, you could immediately smell and see the layers of musty/dusty/unclean. The screened in porch looked like it had been hit by a hurricane. The furniture was in disarray and the carpet wasn't in place. One of the beds looked like it had recently been slept in. Dust everywhere. Top floor same deal. The volleyball net was down. The whirlpool leaked in to the bathroom light fixture below. The drawer to the oven wouldn't open. Not enough paddles for ping pong and no ball for volleyball. Carpets were FILTHY! The grass was extremely tall. There were dead crickets on the floor in the game room. We had 4 visits for the repair of whirlpool, housekeeping, oven/delivery of paddles and volleyball and grass cutting. The manager was mostly unresponsive but I will say the maintenance guys, plumber and housekeeping staff were very nice and helpful. The decor was extremely cheap/tacky. The overall feeling was that the home was not loved but had potential. read more

We reported several issues on Sunday one vein the main floor door doesn't lock and the fire alarms kept going off at various times. We never received a call or any action. Wouldn't say it was horrible but we will be going with other providers from here on out. read more

I recently tried to rent a summer home through this company. I sent the appropriate inquiry and received replies from 3 separate persons from this company informing me that the property was available and to forward them my information so they could e-mail me the contract. I e-mailed Laura Reid all the information she requested and asked her to send me the contract. I didn't get an e-mail back, so I e-mailed her again the next day asking for the contract. All I received was an e-mail stating"That home is already booked." I thought to myself that maybe she was confused and perhaps thought I was someone else. So I responded and informed her that I was in fact the one renting the home, I was still waiting for the contract, but since I received e-mails from her and 2 of her colleagues that perhaps one of them had blocked my specified dates. I did not receive a response, so I called Shoreline. Fortunately, Laura answered the phone. I informed her of the situation and she said "oh, yes, I'm sorry someone booked that home" - that was the only apology I got. I had her confirm that I wasn't the who booked the home, and I was not. I inquired how this could occur since she had been e-mailing with me. Apparently, the house is on another website and as I was waiting for the contract someone booked the home online. (That was the most helpful information I got from her.) However, not one of the representatives had the decency to notify me, nor did they try to fix the situation. Additionally, it would have been nice if she had just seemed apologetic - no apology for not informing me, no apology for not blocking the dates I requested, no apology for losing my summer rental, nor did she e-mail me another property that she claimed she would e-mail me. I advise everyone to avoid this company. Clearly, customer service is not a priority. read more

We rented a house recently from August 14-21, 2016. The house was mediocre at best. Not one of our three ice machines worked properly, one of our dishwashers never worked, the house was rather dirty, and the elevator got stuck with three people inside. The response time was good but nothing was fixed & nothing happened. I don't think I'll use this rental company if I come back. read more

We recently rented a home in Corolla during the week of April 30-May7, 2016. Shoreline was SO friendly and made everything easy. They were precise and there were no hidden charges or fees. Since we were there for our daughters wedding, they gave us a small bottle of champagne with glasses and a card..so thoughtful..when the ice maker and hot tub did not work..they immediately came out (even though it was a Sunday). I would use them again in a blink of an eye. read more
