We had gone in January in hope of seeing the northern lights, but sadly it was overcast and snowy the whole time. This is a "dark sky" location, so it was a bummer. The cabins are adorable. Built by the WPA in the 1930s, but completely updated with modern heating and bathrooms. There was a fireplace, a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and the space was clean. There was a small fridge and a microwave. They do provide simple breakfast, lunch and dinner that is included in the stay. If you want something different, there is a restaurant in town. There is a general store if you need extra snacks, drinks, etc. And Chef Wi will make a special dinner for you if you plan ahead (costs extra). She was so kind and attentive and made us feel welcome. She called us ahead of time to be sure we were aware of the dining options. Cross country skiing and snow shoeing equipment was available at no cost. It's too far away for us to go again, but it must be incredibly beautiful in the spring and summer.

Copper Harbor is miles from cell towers so service is spotty to non existent. We enjoyed the solitude of being in the wilderness without being continually bombarded with calls. The lodge is older. The rustic look takes you back to the 70s. I grew up in the 70s, so for me it was totally nostalgia. Things are showing their age, but then again, so am I. The TV only gets a few channels, but if I wanted to watch one of the hundred channels cable offers, I'd have stayed home. I was able to get the news and weather. WiFi is great if you're near the office. If you really need to be online, pull your car up to the office and have at it. We came here for a getaway from the rat race and the everyday stress that the big city offers. This is exactly what we wanted. I sat for hours on our deck watching the sun rise over the Lake Fanny Hooe. We hiked a trail that went around the lake. We even saw a waterfall. The town offers some nice shops and restaurants. We took a trip up to Brockway mountain. We even saw the northern lights for the first time. This campground/lodge is in the wilderness. You come here for a getaway. That's part of the ambiance. I think it's only fitting that the accommodations should reflect that. If you want the Embassy Suites, stay home. If you want a wilderness getaway, this might be the place for you.We were satisfied with our stay here.

Our room was on the bottom floor. We had an amazing view of Lake Fanny Hooe. Yes, the rooms are outdated, but how much time do you really spend in your room anyways? Is the expierence about your room or the area in which you are staying? The TV in our room offered limited channels, and the wi-fi is spotty at best. If you want/need good wifi then the office is the place to be. There is access to hiking trails on the property and they offer boat rentals to boat around Lake Fanny Hooe if desired. A short walk away are restaraunts, shops, a food market and Lake Superior. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. It was a nice, relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Worst though was, it was cold. We came in January to snowshoe and see this beautiful area in winter. Temps were in the teens most days. Could not get the temp inside above 65 on some days. Showers were also cold until late morning. We made it work, but I would not want to stay here again. Wish we'd read the Yelp reviews before we came.

They rent cabins which look very nice. Renting online was a breeze! We arrived 30 mins early like they requested and it took maybe 15 minutes to sign the documents and look over the unit. The staff was very friendly which is always helpful. Their units are brand new and have navigation which we found very helpful. The side by side was very clean when we picked it up. There is trail access right on their property which is very convenient. We'd love to go back and rent from them again and stay in a cabin as well. If you're anywhere in the area, I recommend renting a side by side from here or even renting a cabin.

They wanted to charge a card $1500 before I could rent a UTV. I rented one from Copper Country Rentals at The Trailside Lodge the day before and they had no such fee. Any business that would be any less than completely up front about a charge of that size is questionable at best in my opinion. Take your money elsewhere!!!

The walls were thin, and the neighbors were loud (but not inappropriately so). There was supposed to be a "futon". There was a dirty couch I wouldn't have let my dog on. The positives: The mattress was newer (with flat, old pillows). There was a nice porch (with two chairs for three rooms to share). No front desk. Check in is in the bar, and check out is in the restaurant (which appeared to be a popular breakfast place).
