We wanted a simple Red Egg design for our little one's Red Egg and Ginger Party. Mariko communicated with me to make sure we had the design perfect - which was an egg shaped cookie with red frosting and a watercolor swish of gold through the middle. For decades I have wanted to learn how to decorate cookies. It seems like a life skill that would come in handy. This last Sunday afternoon with a glass of wine in hand, Mariko taught me and a couple other people how to decorate cookies over a couple hours at Glassy Baby in Berkeley. She gave us her tips and tricks and had our space all set up and ready for crafting. I had so much fun. She taught us how to make royal icing, how to color it, and how to consider different consistencies based on the needs of the cookies being decorated. She taught us how to make the cookies that were not just great decorating cookies but they were tasty too!!! She had colored icing in various colors all ready for us to decorate a variety of cookies. We sat down and she talked us through a number of decorating techniques. I walked out of class feeling like I leveled up my baking/decorating game. Mariko sent us home with a cookie package of her other cookies - double chocolate, chocolate, oatmeal, etc - and oh. my. goodness. Her cookies were amazing!!!!
