Well actually it's only quick if you pick your time wisely because this store gets hella busy during the lunch time rush. These guys have most items that a student would require to get them through a busy day of lectures and assignments; energy drinks, water, lollies, pies, noodles, chocolate, snacks etc. and at prices that a student can afford. They always have good deals going on as well that change frequently. Yep, I have to give some credit to Munchy Mart for getting me through my degree. Thank you.

I went here a lot when I was at Uni, there isn't much you can't buy here. There is so much variety by way of drinks here it is crazy, they even sell Snapple and a lot of milk and iced teas from foreign places. They also have sushi, pies (or course), muffins and things like taro buns. Hot water is available too for the noodles, there is no additional water charge and Munchy Mart also supply straws, forks and chopsticks! On a more healthy note there is a large fruit bin up the front with the generic apples and bananas and another bin for specials, often 2 for deals which is great for loan burdened students! Just check the expiration dates first. The other great thing is the check out operation, they've got it sorted, the lines get really long (especially between lectures) but the efficient staff and someone to manage the customer line mean transactions go through quicker so you can get munch out of mart quicker.

Let's just say this isn't the type of place to come if you feel like a coke and some pringles. However, if you want to go beyond the run of the mill , branch out in to the unknown, S Mart is the place to come. It's a collection of loosely grouped shops all under the banner S- Mart - so there is an alcohol store, a convenience store and a coffee shop all seperate. Within the convenience store is the food shop Madis, which I have also reviewed - it's well worth checking out as you can get custom made sushi for 5 - 7 dollars. They have benches outside where you can sit and explore the purchase you have made, deciding whether or not Mung Bean ice cream really is for you.

It's a…read moresmall Korean supermarket, and so it stocks mostly Korean and a smattering of Japanese foods, but if that's not your thing, it does have a small "Western" foods section and a Rivermill bread stand, which is not the greatest but good if you don't want to spend $6 a loaf at the Fix down the road. As I'm not Korean, I used to like to buy something that I didn't really know what it was, which was sometimes something I found yuksville, but sometimes resulted in delightful discoveries such as the Beef BBQ wheat chips (do not contain beef). My favourite things here are canned lemon and apple sodas here for the very reasonable price of $1.10 (used to be 80cents). They are pretty friendly here, and there's also a loyalty scheme you can sign up to and eventually get some credit on your purchases.

Especially the ones living in the Mount St student apartments. Their parents might as well cut out the middle man and just start sending those weekly cheques to Forte Convenience directly. It has all the usual things students need (pies, chips, bread, energy drinks, pies) but also a whole lot extra that they don't need but are pleased to have access to (toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet paper, fruit). Bonus: some of the pies are halal, if that's your thing. Although I've never lived in a Mount St apartment I did come here semi-regularly to get pies during uni, and the people who work here were always friendly and polite. My only criticism of the entire place, the one that costs them that fifth star, is that their pies are not always as hot as you'd like.

She was already visibly upset due to a major emergency with one of our friends and apologised to the (I presume owner) for breaking the bottle. He said "I'll clean it up but you have to pay for it. The bottle doesn't magically break itself", or words to that effect. I calmly pointed out that I had broken a bottle at Caltex once and they forgave it, but he doubled down. It's a fair enough rule, but he could have at least tried to be kind about it. I hope he enjoys the $2.50 because the rest of our convenience shopping will be done at one of the other stores nearby.

Located on Normanby Road (very near to Citta Design and BLOC), this store is one of a kind! I could literally spend hours walking through Sabato tasting every olive oil, balsamic, chorizo, cheese, chocolate and dipping sauce imaginable! While some of the products are sourced around New Zealand, you will mostly find products from Spain, Italy and of course, France (thank you France for the best chocolate in the world aka Valrhona!). As well as selling amazing food products, you can also buy cookbooks, kitchen supplies and they also hold cooking classes and cheese classes. I haven't been to one yet, but they always sell out!
