I highly recommend Shoulder Elbow and Hand Therapy Specialist. The staff were always kind and helpful in scheduling appointments, verifying insurance benefits and answering my questions. James Puett is a Certified Hand Therapist who is extremely knowledgeable. He took time to educate me on the anatomy and function of my fingers to help me understand the healing process and treatment goals of the therapy. He and his assistant provided direct therapy and taught me exercises to complete at home to improve my hand function. James and his group at SEH have restored my faith in physical therapy! I went several months to another facility. It was a large, institutional facility with lots of equipment and space. But after several months making very little progress I was finally told they couldn't do anything more for me! And "yes" I did all the exercises they asked me to do. So I went to my doctor and explained the problem. Thank heavens he referred me to SEH as James had helped him when he had shoulder problems. The first day there, I had only 5 degrees range of motion in one exercise, and when I left an hour later, I had 40 degrees! All this is because James, Lauren, and Kiani know how to treat shoulder injuries - and they are so patient and understanding. Going to therapy at SEH is never quiet or dull - it's actually fun. Everyone is friendly, interested in their patients' lives, and have a great sense of humor! I was actually sad when I was finished with therapy! And yes, I made outstanding progress! I can't say enough good things about the treatment I received here. The staff is very knowledgeable and really cares about their patients. My dominant wrist was really messed up after surgery and a different physical therapy organization treated me. It was a very long recovery due to complications. In Maine people took broken, worthless glass and threw it into the ocean. It sank, seemingly lost forever. But... God had a different plan. He took the broken, useless & worthless from the depths. He reshaped it, molded it, took the hard and dangerous edges off... and redeposited on the shores of Maine as priceless and rare .... Worthy of so much more in this state than its original purpose. I hurt my hand working on a sea glass project honoring my earthly father from Maine. However, because of my accident I met James, Lauren, Rene & Mary. And they turned my ugly nasty hand into a working part of my body again just like God did with the sea glass. Today I celebrate something I never thought of before ... today I buttoned my own shirt and put on my own socks. Never in my life did I think these daily tasks would be one of my challenges in life, but here I am. After many tears, I have gone from the ER to a hand doctor to physical therapy on this journey. I am so happy my path crossed with the staff here; I would have been just as happy to meet them at the grocery store, at church or somewhere way more casual. But here we are ... After going through exhausted painful experiences with other physical therapist I finally found the place that is helping me. I had a surgery go wrong where my arm was dislocated for 4 days after the surgery going to ER in horrific pain to find out. I knew something was wrong everytime the place would try to move my arm I would scream and cry don't touch me. Anyhow I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and most places don't even know what it is but I was lucky I found Shoulder Elbow & Hand Therapy Specialist. I have been making progress in the last few months and they understand my condition makes things harder and pain, swelling and color changes in my arm and hand are different all the time. James is the owner of the facility and knows his business and gets to review then start working on healing you and teaching you how to do it yourself at home as it will work if you work at helping what he instructs you to do. Lauren is his employee but he knows and tells you she is his equal and trusts her to run the facility. Lauren is amazing and has a great attitude always and works you out and knows her business. They deal with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome where it is very hard to find people that know the condition as it's very important they do or can do the opposite of helping. I am very blessed to have found a great small business but knows there business!!! When I came to them my knuckles where bending inwards on my fingers on my hand and now they are starting to look more normal. We still have a lot of work to do as my hand won't close and this condition is the most painful condition you can have. I work with pain management and the surgeon who did my arm surgery and Lauren keeps him updated on my level of improvement and what I need to help me so I can do the things she shows me what to do to keep getting better. Nerve damage takes a long time to heal and they are honest I have a long road ahead of me but I know with them leading the way I will get better. read more

I enjoyed every single visit to the therapy center. James and his staff are nice, kind and funny. I had an accident at home and lacerated the pinky finger on my right hand and it was pretty bad. I had an injury to my hand that required surgery. After my surgery my doctor recommended that I go see Lauren at Shoulder Elbow Hand Therapy Center. He highly recommended her because he said that she had helped him when he had a hand injury. My experience with Lauren and everyone else at this clinic is very positive. Lauren is very knowledgeable and very good at making me feel comfortable. I am very pleased with how my hand is doing now as is my doctor. Therapy is not always easy but this clinic has very good therapists and a very friendly staff. As long as you are willing to do the work and listen to their recommendations you will definitely see positive results. I am very happy with my experience here and would highly recommended this clinic to anyone who needs shoulder, elbow or hand therapy. Very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. I was told it would be 3 months before I could use my hand again after breaking my wrist. Ten days following surgery, the Doctor prescribed physical therapy 3 days a week. After my first PT appointment, the staff handed me a sheet with pictures and told me to follow along. I sat alone for an hour each time following their guide. Keep in mind, each appointment was anywhere from $135 to $240 and I am self pay. After 5 appointments at the Fondren Group I saw some improvement, but definitely not enough for my liking. I am out of work due to my injury and need results as quick as possible. On my last visit, my brace started hurting and rubbing blisters on my thumb. I asked them if they could help me and the Brace Tech replied, "No. All braces are the same sorry." Right then I decided to switch therapists. After ONE APPOINTMENT with James Puett, I progressed more than I had during all 5 visits with Fondren. He only charged me $75 AND gave me a CUSTOM FIT brace that doesn't touch my thumb at all. He sat with me and diligently worked with my wrist and hand throughout my appointment. I can now make a fist for the first time in over a month. He expects my wrist to be functional again in half the time using his innovative techniques. I am so grateful for his expertise and willingness to go above and beyond. My Hero!! Dr Pruett and his staff do an amazing job providing high quality physical therapy to their patients. I had an ulnar nerve displaced from a previous surgery 15 years ago, which the corrective surgery required moving the nerve under a few tendons and bicep. The following 3 months required intensive stretching for the elbow and thew wrist which was immobilized initially for the first several weeks. Dr Pruett and his staff not only did a great job encouraging me to push my limits safely during the visits, but also provided exercises to do on my own. As result, I have full motion back to both my elbow and wrist. The more impressing part of his practice is creating a learning environment by bringing in a few students as interns to learn the trade. The pride and care he provided is admirable. I would highly recommend his services without question. read more

I am a healthcare provider and generally like to support private medical clinics/businesses, however Mr. James Puett needs some improvement. My husband was a patient of his for therapy. Our first appointment went well, I truly appreciated Mr. Puett's time and effort with my husband. However, on his second appointment I did not accompany him. I'm not sure if because I was not there Mr. Puett felt the need to deal with my husband inappropriately, but Mr. Puett's communication and attitude with my husband will not be tolerated and should not be tolerated by anyone for that matter. I have been in the healthcare arena for 20+ years and have come across numerous providers, whether they are nurses, doctors, therapists, etc. and it can be quite obvious when a person is burnt out in their profession or just in it for the sake of money. I'm not sure if Mr. Puett has reached that point, but it is not acceptable to speak to a patient as if they are a child and to EMBARRASS a patient in front of other patients, students, or employee's. I don't know if Mr. Puett was trying to demonstrate how much knowledge he has in front of his patient's and students, but it is NEVER okay to speak to patient's in that manner. Granted I have patient's of my own that can be frustrating to deal with because they are non-compliant or do not follow instruction, but you still have to have compassion and demonstrate that you are in this profession to help people. Sometimes we have to continue to reteach and offer positive reinforcement to our patients to get them to reach the goals that we have set for them. In addition to poor communication skills, Mr. Puett was reprimanding my husband for not performing certain interventions in relation to his injury, after I personally called the surgeon's office to inquire about these interventions....I was told they were not correct. I'm not sure where Mr. Puett obtained his training/education, but sir your actions today were not okay. I am embarrassed and ashamed for my husband because we (Mr. Puett and I) represent healthcare and it is incidents like this that discourage patients from seeking medical care, whether it is for prevention, acute, or chronic care. Please put yourself in my husband's shoes, if it was your spouse, parents, or grandparents you would not appreciate the tone and treatment that you displayed to my husband today. I personally would not recommend this therapist, but I always encourage others to get their own experience and determine for themselves if it is a business in which they wish to patronize as a patient. I hope Mr. Puett will learn from this and improve his patient communication skills and regain the passion that he had when he first became a therapist. read more

I went to see Mr Puett following hand surgery from a torn tendon and nerve in my hand. I went to PT twice a week and after just my first visit I was better able to use my hand(even though the therapist and surgeon said not to)(yes i'm non-compliant)and was excited about the brace that Mr. Puett fit me for. The brace is truly amazing for all those who think braces are bulky and you cant do anything with them, let me tell you the brace and technique they use is brilliant! Talk about custom fit brace! The staff are wonderfully friendly and interact with all ages with no difficulty. Mr. Puett and his staff are the sole reason I continued to go to PT. As previously stated I am quite non compliant and did NOT want PT, but Mr Puett and the staff made me feel like I had a full PT staff in my living room just hanging out while they therapize me.
