Upstairs at the top end of Fitzroy Street Fernwood has floor to ceiling windows in the cardio area so you have a great view of Albert Park Lake during your work-out. They have a range of machines to use and lots of them, ranging from tredmills, bikes, cross trainers to weight training equipment and free weights. Fernwood St Kilda also has some great group classes on offer if you are wanting a social option to getting fit and the girls at behind the desk also have breakfast items available for their members to enjoy after their work-outs. Fernwood is female focused in a great way they have plenty of showers, hair dryers, straightners and cleansers pretty much everything you need to have a great work-out and leave looking fresh and ready for the day.

Located just off the main Bourke street shopping mall FF Bourke St is good for a quick workout but i find it sometimes to be quite crowded. A few times during peak period i will have to wait to use a treadmill, machine or bench press. A tad frustrating but as expected the popular facility doesn't hold that much equipment. On the main entrance floor you will find cardio equipment and some weights machines, upstairs some free-stretch area and free weights. The staff are friendly enough and are always happy to help you out with whatever you need.

The staff are great, they know their stuff and are very approachable and friendly. I find the floor size is huge, and I have never had to wait for a machine, ever! (even at peak times). They have loads of gear, and really good airflow (good for us runners). absolutely no complaints, and also the gym is augmented by the Melbourne Central gym for weekends (free parking for gym members too)..........................

What I have tried on numerous occasions are their squash courts. There are 10 international standard squash courts including a four walled glass show court. The courts are the best that we play on in our league (on a par with Moorabbin). They are quicker than most around the circuit but I'm a fan. If I lived next door to MSAC, I would play a hell of a lot more sports here. A great venue for all sports.

The Yoga instructor, Lila, is incredibly attentive and is really focussed on tailoring each movement to the individual needs of each member of the class. She also gives a bit of a running narrative as you are going through the Yoga positions, so you get a sense of exactly what health benefits each movement has, which I find helpful (if I'm going to go through pain and discomfort, it helps to know why). The classes are a really good workout, but not overly strenuous. They are actually quite relaxing, as Lila finishes each class with meditation or breathing exercises, so you leave with a zen feeling that you take all the way home. I couldn't speak highly enough about this class, particularly for beginners.

The staff at Equilibrium are really nice and attentive (but not pushy), and really took the time to assess my fitness strengths and weaknesses before recommending a plan for me. What I found to be frustrating about Equilibrium is the fact that it's virtually impossible to access a treadmill or much of the equipment at the peak hour times that I would most like to be able to work out (ie. Between 5 and 7pm weekdays, Saturday mornings, etc.). They also significantly cut down the Yoga sessions (to only 1 or 2 a week now I believe), which is a shame, because that's easily my preferred exercise option. So whilst Equilibrium is definitely preferable to a corporate gym, I'd still investigate local community gyms or YHA's first.

Rod Laver Arena was barely better than a high school gym. Very few sweets, dark, dull, plain, and not very welcoming. The complex on the other hand is pretty neat. There are a bunch of other arenas that you can easily walk into and watch tennis. However, there aren't domes on the other courts other than Margaret Court Arena. It rained the entire morning we were here. And when it rains there's no where to hide. It's also very hard to book a tour online. You must find it on a site called Tennis World. There are usually only 1 or 2 tours a week on a Tuesday or a Wednesday at 11:30am or noon. The tour lasts an hour. Our guide was great, but it's nothing like a Wimbledon tour.

If you want a full body workout and to break out in sweat while balling over your frienemies than this is the sport for you. Eastern Indoor Sports hosts many types of sports and bubble soccer is just one of them and it costs $160 an hour for a casual booking. I would suggest to go with more people, 12 people would be ideal with groups of 4 rotating for shorter games as we were all exhausted by the half hour mark. *Tip: wear a t-shirt as the straps in the bubble go over your shoulders.
