Went with Shunk as it is local and they are supposed to be the best in the area, family owned, quality furniture. I bought a 5000.00 + couch. Customer service was great for the sale and assured me this couch is quality. 9 months later the springs start squawking and then later it's hard as a rock. I called for service. They took my message and said someone would call to schedule. They appeared unannounced and tried to take my couch. I told them I did not want to go without it (it took forever to come in when I bought it). They left and said they would come back and fix it here. Someone would call to schedule. They actually called to schedule but took my couch giving me no indication this is what was happening. I called the manager, Sarah, who interrupted me before I could explain anything and told me "we just need to bring it in to see what's wrong with it, we can't do it there" I asked her to at least hear my concerns as I have been inconvenienced. I asked her what if I had people coming over? I was not very polite, because of the poor communication. In her response, she told me that she didn't believe that anybody promised that they would fix the couch in the house, as if I was lying, also told me that I demanded it. I purchased two sofas from this store and regret this decision. The original customer service was great, probably because they were making a sale. Once the couch arrived broken however, that is when the trouble started. They went good on repairing it for free (as they should, we notified them very promptly of the issue. It absolutely arrived broken on the bottom mechanism). We live 60 miles away so they came to us. They were not equipped to fix it on site and had to take back 1/2 of the couch. So we have been living with 1/2 a couch for over 3 weeks now because they refuse to redeliver until they have a full truck for my area. So after you purchase, if you have issues, good luck getting someone to care about helping you! The people working at this store have been so incredibly rude and unwilling to help. They are "doing their best" but if doing their best means not providing answers, not calling back when they state they would, and hanging up on someone, then their best isnt that great! It is not our fault the couch came broken! We did not ask for this! The customer service is what broke the entire situation - had they even apologized for it coming broken, which isnt their fault either!, maybe we would feel differently. But right away they attempted to blame us for the issue and were just plain rude. I would be embarrassed to have an employee speak to customers the way they have. read more

I recently moved to the area and brought a very expensive Flex Steel couch with me from out of state. The couch has some unusual wear on it so I called Shunk furniture since they are my local representative for this product for help and suggestions. Despite offering to pay for their time and assistance, I was told that since I didn't purchase the item from them I should take it to a shoe repair shop for help. This couch cost close to $8k and is only a couple years old and that was their suggestion. Shunk furniture certainly wants to sell you their products, but they clearly don't want to assist with servicing those items. I realize there are not many local options for furniture, and that is probably why they are still in business. Despite the limited options for furniture stores, I highly recommend driving and shopping someplace other than Shunk furniture. read more

Worst customer service ever. I bought a $1,000 powered rocker/recliner chair from Shunk Furniture in February and got it in May 2021. The power source quit two times since that time. The motor had to be replaced the last time. The owner of the store told me that I use the chair too much. It's not meant to be used that much. I'm single and live by myself. I use the chair in the evenings and I do sleep in it. The last time it was in for repairs it took 7 weeks to get the chair back. It was broke for 2 weeks prior to them picking it up. They picked it up and returned it to me at their convenience. Their store is 2 hours away from me. They have to have a full truck before they come up here. read more

I am glad I gave Shunk Furniture a shot, when furnishing a house I initially assumed (based on previous experience) that most of the furniture stores around Marquette would be the typical lazy boy style. Shunk actually has some really nice quality stuff, Flex steel for example. We have purchased a few flex steel pieces and they are extremely well built with pretty high end fabrics available. They have nice dining room tables, bedroom furniture, everything well made. They will get you anything you want and there are a lot of options in the showroom. Additionally its a family run business and they do a lot in the community. read more

So we had a bed on layaway for a while from Shrunk furniture in Mqt, a $5600 mattress after taxes...we get the bed in February w the wrong box spring they were too long and two different colors and both were damaged lol. They offer a 90 day trail with a comfort exchange which is where you can exchange for a different bed if the one you got doesn't suit your needs..We return it after only 2 weeks to get a cheaper bed (over $1500 cheaper) they take over 3 weeks to get here and when it finally does they bring the wrong box spring again they matched in color this time but were two different sizes now neither the size the bed called for...so they inspect our first mattress for stains and soil, BEFORE it left our house, he wrote it up undamaged and unstained...we call a couple weeks after the exchange and find out that not only do they not have our right box springs yet but they also will not be refunding the over $1500 difference in cost...????!!!! This is just as bad as theft. I don't know what else to call it they never told us that we would not receive the difference! A little confusing when trying to figure out what was available or in stock and at which location since there are three locations so close together, but we were overall satisfied with our purchase. Some of the room furnishing sets available look really nice and reasonably priced. We would definitely check them out again in the future when back in town. read more

Terrible customer service. My furniture was supposed to show up today, and I had a family member waiting for the van. It never showed. I called ths store and they told me it'd be one more month because the material is on backorder. They never called me to communicate any of this to me...they won't give me the phone number to call England Furniture...they won't let me cancel the order...they wont give me the chair I ordered in a material that wasn't backordered...and they wont apologize. I do not believe they even ordered my furniture. This isn't first time the salesman used the excuse "fabric was backordered." Do yourself a favor and go to "E and E furniture" in Escanaba...They deliver to all of Marquette County and surrounding areas. I loves my last experience at E and E, and I wish I would have taken the time to drive there. read more

bought two lazy boy recliners. A cheap plastic part that everyone has had trouble with broke and these chairs had a lifetime warrantee on the mechanism. They wanted to charge me 20 dollars to ship a 2oz plastic part. If you motor blew under warrantee would ford charge you to ship a new one. NOTHING BUT A RIP OFF! read more

Bought a bed and had to wait 2 weeks for them to get the order and then to deliver it to me. I could have have the bed 3 days sooner but was not contacted when they received the product. When they did contact me to schedule delivery their warehouse staff for pickup orders were on weekend. The delivery went alright and I appreciated the service but some minor damage was made to my bedroom door and the mattress cover. Cost and delivery time would have been the same but If I bought the bed from the manufactures website I would have a much better return policy including full refund. If I ended up liking the product I would probably give them 3 stars but I do not. Having bought one of their most expensive mattresses there comfort exchange policy will not refund the difference of a less expensive mattress. Also to replace it and there are additional pickup/exchange fees. I wish I liked the bed but I do not and I feel tricked and cheated. read more

Bought a new mattress and box springs with the promise of a promotional $300 in store credit, or a mattress cover and pillows. We opted for the mattress cover and pillows. The pillows were out of stock, and even three weeks later the pillows weren't there in time to catch the delivery for the truck. It's now been three weeks since I was informed the pillows were in stock, and they still haven't delivered them. I was told they would mail them, but now Shunk is telling me they won't mail them because they're too expensive. Meanwhile, they've got ALL my money and I still don't have the full order. I feel like since they have their money they don't care about fulfilling the order in a timely fashion. Will likely not be doing business with these people again. read more

Thought I would wait till after the holidays for this review. Just relocated back to the UP from Chicago. I went into Schunk Furniture off US41 in Negaunee, wanted to buy local) on December 2nd at 5:50pm ( they close at 6) to purchase a mattress. I told the sales representative in the clearance building what I was looking for. He offered me a full size foam mattress around $120ish w/tax $136.74. I told the representative that sounds fine, I'll take it. I paid and he loaded it and I left. After the first week I noticed after I slept the foam would not retain its natural shape especially where my hips lay. There was a big dimple the circumference of my hand, alright I will just sleep on the other side and let that side retain its shape. It's now December 15th and this side of the bed has the same size dimple and the other side never regained its shape.. alright I'm going to call and talk to the sales representative (its been 13 days). I explained to the representative whats happening with the mattress and after 13 days that shouldn't be happening. He said his manager wasn't available but he took my information and said he would call me back the next day (Dec. 16th 2016). Now, no one called me back the next day so I called again on Dec. 17th spoke to a different representative and explained my situation he asked me to text him pictures, so I did. He said he would show his manager the pictures and call me back the next day. Again, never received a call the following day. I called again. Now I am getting impatient because I have not been treated like any importance. During my call I explained I am not happy and Ive been calling every day to get this situation resolved with no support from any of the representatives. At this point I demanded to speak to the manager, the representative said, he is with another customer. I said since Ive been inconvenienced HE can call me back when he is free. Once again never received a call. Now it's Dec. 22nd And fed up with the lack of customer service from a local store I physically brought the mattress into the store and asked for a refund. The representatives could tell I was upset and disappointed with their service. The "guys" measured the dimples in the mattress and were surprised that all my phone calls were for a legitimate reason. I politely asked for a refund. The representative made a call (over to the other building next door) and spoke to his manager about who I was and the mattress that is now right in front of them. He hung up the phone and said, he cant give my money back but he will give me the same mattress only a NEW one. I explained thats not acceptable after 13 days of use and the ridiculous customer service you have given me. The "guy" looked intimidated after I said that. He looked at me and said, I'm not trying to be the bad guy. I asked who his manager was, he told me Carl Jr. and he's in the other building. I said, you don't have to be the bad guy and walked over to the next building to talk to Carl Jr. when I walked over to the other building I asked the "female" representative to speak to Carl Jr. When Carl Jr. Came out I explained to him, who I was and why I was there and the service (lack of service) I have been given. He did not care and repeatedly interrupted me and said, " you bought a $100 mattress" I tried to explain that 13 days of use of any mattress no matter what the price should not have the issues I've had with mine (still being rudely interrupted about the cost) I then stopped my explaining and said, " you should treat everyone the same no matter how much they spend." Carl Jr again did not care and said, he would replace the mattress thats all, No refund. I said, "I would never want a product from a person like you or a business like yours after how I have been treated." Holding back tears, I left the store saying, "you should be ashamed of yourself and EVERYONE deserves to be treated equally." Now Dec. 22nd thats 3 days before Christmas.. I lost my money and I had no mattress to sleep on. Carl Jr. Treated me as if I was worth $100 (as he vocalized numerous times during our conversation) and no one should ever take down a persons worth, ever. Everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter what they look like, how they speak or how much they spend. I was so upset after this experience I told my mom what happened, she then called the store and explained how upset I was and again, they told her I can have the replacement mattress. I'm very grateful my mother still has my back in my mid 30's but again, I would never want a product from a man that valued me as a person worth $100. So I still did not accept the same replacement mattress from Schunk Furniture. Now, Carl Jr will call his distributor and have the mattress returned defective and a replacement one sent to him at no cost ( he maybe charged shipping but I doubt it because they will offer that free for the inconvenience) He will not lose a penny BUT have gained my $136.74. read more

This review is not about the quality of the products but about the lack of understanding and the terrible customer service of this company. My wife and I moved to Marquette recently and bought a pretty table with six chairs. Due to a family tragedy we had to leave Marquette soon afterwards (12 days from the purchase). I went in asking for a refund. The table was intact, pristine, we did not even have the time to use it for one dinner. The manager told me that they do not take back furniture. I asked for some compassion given our circumstances but no, he told me if I was kidding him as if I was asking for something crazy (returning a pristine table and six chairs due to a family emergency). My conclusion is the following: although Shunk has average good products, their customer service and humanity was terrible. Although I am upset, I am writing this review in the most balanced possible way to inform future customers who may find themselves in a similar situation. In conclusion, customer care did not exists. Ot better, Shunk has demonstrated to be interested in us as customers when we bought the item, not in caring when we asked for sympathizing help due to those unexpected circumstances. I am sure there are plenty of other stores where people are more reasonable and actually know how to do good business. Word of mouth is the best advertising, wake up. read more

We have been long time customers of Shunk Furniture, having purchased living room sets, dining room sets, custom bar stools, bedroom suites, mattresses, coffee tables, accent tables.....I shutter to think how much we have spent in 15 years. We always prefer to buy local, however, this last purchase will ensure we go to other furniture stores locally or online before EVER stepping foot in this place again. Our search for a king mattress and queen mattress, in stock, was a total run around. The guy didn't bother calling his Ridge St. store to see if he had the model we originally wanted until after we took the 3rd choice because that's all they had. We loaded them on our truck and left. After we slept on the 3rd choice mattress, I called Shunk and said we wanted to return it because it was too firm. Lo and behold, they found the original one we wanted at the Ridge St. store. They could deliver it. But charged us $100 for delivery. Really?! You screwed up and now you are charging me $100 after we paid full price for a king and queen luxury mattress? Just about 3500?! I will never go to this store again. I have since found great deals on Joss and Main, Wayfair, Art Van with excellent quality and superb customer service. And FREE SHIPPING!!!
