**Note: This review is for working specifically with Sarah Oberer. I do not have experience with any of the other lawyers at the law firm** It was my hope to have given Sarah at ShurLaw an excellent review but, unfortunately, I had a negative experience working with her. Some of the challenges working with Sarah: -Lack of a thought/care about personal safety. Because my case included domestic violence protections, my safety should have been a top priority. Despite several conversations stressing the importance of protecting confidential information, she made errors that could have compromised my personal safety. -Unhelpful advice that would have unnecessarily costs thousands of extra dollars. I also asked some fairly basic questions and days later would inform me that she was, in fact, wrong. She constantly needed outside input for my questions and when correcting her errors, I was charged. Literally, "paying for her mistakes". -Lack of responsibility for errors. Rather than taking responsibility for her errors, instead she deflected it, telling me that I should be checking her work. -Unclear communication. For example, receiving constant conflicting calendar invites for cancelled/rescheduled events. This added unnecessary stress and cost me valuable time and energy. My goal for working with her was to solve problems, instead of create new ones. Instead of feeling like she was an advocate, it felt like I constantly needed to advocate for myself to feel seen, heard, understood, and cared for, while adding additional stress due to errors and lack of experience. If you have a very simple and straightforward case, she might be helpful. Had I known what it was like to work with her, I would have found someone else. I'm disappointed that I'm having to leave this review, but I feel it's important for others seeking a family lawyer to know about my experience. I hired Heather Dyer for my child custody case, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disheartening and disappointing professional relationships I've encountered. Throughout the case, I did not feel supported, guided, or truly advocated for. Communication was minimal and often vague, and I consistently felt left in the dark during critical moments when clarity and reassurance were most needed. It felt as though I was navigating this emotionally taxing situation on my own, despite paying thousands of dollars for legal representation. What was most painful was the lack of fight I saw in her approach. It seemed the priority was not my case, nor my child's best interest, but rather the billing process. The financial costs mounted quickly, yet the level of service, strategy, and commitment did not reflect the high fees I paid. While I understand that not every case results in a win, I expected my attorney to stand beside me with dedication and transparency. Sadly, I did not experience that with Heather Dyer. I worked with attorney Jennifer Mullins with Shur Law and she represented me the way I wanted to be presented in my divorce case. My parents were long over-due for estate planning and Tonya VanBenschoten made the process of explaining how a living trust and a will is created and executed extremely painless. Though having a living will and trust is something we should all do as soon as we are adults and have assets, my parents, like so many people, put it off for fear that it would be a cumbersome process. In light of the pandemic we are experiencing, having a living trust in place gives my parents some comfort if something unexpected occurs.
