Appetizer of crispy spring rolls filled with minced chicken and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce
    Tony S.

This place is tucked away in a little strip shopping area at the top of a hill off of Merrimon, so you won't see it from the main road, but it's definitely worth the little trip up the hill. Nothing fancy, but the staff are very nice and efficient, and the food is very good and reasonably priced. They seem to get a lot of repeat customers (including my son) and they know and acknowledge them when they come back in. I would give them a 4.5, which I rounded up to 5 in this case instead of down to 4. I'll note why I didn't give them exactly a 5. First, we started with the crispy rolls, which are long, straw-like spring rolls filled with minced chicken and deep fried to crispy, golden perfection. They were very tasty and crispy (as the name says) and the dipping sauce was quite good, too (not overly sweet, with some chilis included). For our entrees we had the pumpkin curry (medium hot) with chicken and the tamarind duck (medium hot). The pumpkin curry was excellent. Serving size was ample (we had some left to take home) and there was plenty of tender chicken as well as a nice selection of vegetables cooked to just where they have a little crunch left (not soggy/overly cooked). The sauce in particular was really good. At medium heat level, it had just the right amount of heat at the finish of each bite. The boneless duck breast in the tamarind duck was seriously good -- one of the best servings of duck I've had in an Asian restaurant in ages. The skin somehow stayed nice and crispy even in the sauce. My one nit was that the soy sauce base used for the tamarind sauce was a little too intense and salty. But overall, because of the duck itself, this was a solid entree as well. The white rice on the side was as you would expect in an Asian restaurant (i.e., it had some stickiness to it, with overall good flavor). The one other nit I have is that the cart they use for dirty dishes was visible and maybe a little too close to where customers dine. That could explain the health dept score of 95, which is not bad, but not as high as many restaurants in Asheville that are in the 97 or above range. Overall, a solid Thai restaurant run by a nice family serving above average Thai food. Like my son who gets takeout from here quite a lot (he recommends the spicy fried rice with chicken), it's definitely a place to come back to again when the craving for Thai food hits.

Some friends and I were in town on vacay & decided on Thai for dinner. What a great little find this was! The Panang curry was super flavorful. I had it with tofu which was alright but have had better, but the curry sauce was so delicious that it didn't really matter about the tofu. Also at the table was salmon fried rice, chicken vegetable stir fry, cashew chicken, and chicken curry. Everyone ate til either their bellies were full or their plates were empty! Would definitely come back!

3 years later...still a great dinner. Fabulous service. I would recommend you give it a taste.

This off the radar Thai restaurant is a gem. The authentic Thai foods are exceptional, well prepared, and delicious. This restaurant deserves 5 Ambience (Comfortable) Service (Excellent) Food (Excellent and Authentic)

Enjoyed my meal at Siam Thai! They were able to accommodate our larger party without us having a reservation and the service was good. I got massaman curry and thought it was fine. Not the best I've had but still enjoyable. I did find the portion sizes to be a bit small but overall had a great time.

Very nice generous portion, authentic Thai food. Such a hidden gem in this area, highly recommended! I ordered for to-go since we are visiting from out of town and stopped by for a quick bite on our way back to the hotel. The portions are huge and very reasonably priced. Padthai is delicious, Thai hot is pretty spicy, on point flavor wise. The drunken noodles needed more flavors and sauce. Overall, great authentic Thai food, I would come back whenever we are in town again.

Dumplings & spring rolls; both were fantastic!

The ambiance is super upbeat and lively. It can be busy, and there can be a wait depending on how busy it is. Though, it is worth it! I ordered the staple, chicken pad Thai!!! Spice level #4! So, that's how I chose Thai food to close out the year. Parking. It's on Broadway. Check the signs. Don't get excited like me and pull in only to find it's for loading/unloading or handicapped. I ended up just parking in one of the lots. 3 hour parking for $18.50. I don't know if that's the standard rate or if it was inflated for NYE but after having done a few laps, I just said WTH and pulled right in. It was only a block and a half away. The place wasn't packed but bustling with to go orders. We did arrive later and by the time we left, there were only a few tables occupied. Not being busy, but also being sat where we were - service was great. Attentive as we were always within line of sight of the team and all we needed to do was make eye contact. Not that we needed to other than refills and for me, spicy chili powder/sauce. Food was good. Not spicy - but as my friend would say - nothing is spicy for me. But I wanted the added heat as it was a little chilly out. Good flavors but not explosions like I'm used to. Not that it was bad - maybe it was on the muted side for the demographics? It was a very nice tasty dinner to close out 2025!

Like most places in West Asheville, it's a little on the funky side in terms of ambiance. But that just adds to the authenticity, as I felt like I was in some little beachside cafe or alleyway cafe someplace in Thailand. The staff here are very friendly and efficient, even with the place being packed on a Saturday evening. We skipped appetizers and headed right into entrees, which was a good thing, because the serving sizes here are more than ample (we had leftovers sharing two entrees between two of us, and we actually ate plenty at the restaurant). I like beer with spicy food and their beer selection was pretty limited, but I tried one of their Thai beers and it was very good and went great with our food. We had to try their massaman curry (with chicken), as it's sort of a standard for me, like lasagna in an Italian restaurant. It was served more like a ramen, as the curry sauce was thin-ish (not watery though, just not like some curries). But the sauce was so tasty we did eat some of it with a spoon. It included potatoes, carrots and a few other veggies on top, along with some ground peanuts (which I've never had served on top of massaman curry before -- they were a good complement). It came with a side of white rice (average). We also had the pad see-ew (with chicken). I hate it when the noodles in dishes like this are tough or chewy but the ones here were wonderful -- just the right texture. Again the sauce was amazing, a semi-sweet black soy sauce that had sort of a smoky flavor. A good mix of veggies were tossed in with the noodles and chicken. We ordered both dishes at a spice level of 3 (out of 5). Good spicy, but I might even go with 4 next time, as 3 was not all that spicy. As I noted, there were leftovers and they reheated well. So two meals out of one visit. They have a pretty extensive menu, so we'll definitely be back to try other things. I'd have to say this Thai restaurant was quite a bit different (in a good way) than any other Thai restaurant I've been to (and I've had a lot of Thai food over the years). I don't know if that means it is more authentically Thai whereas other places Americanize their food somewhat, or this particular chef just has her own cooking style of Thai food. Whichever, the seasoning or mixture of spices in the dishes here was excellent.

It was highly regarded before that, and offers to make many of its menu items vegan. I was a tad disappointed that the bar promised some non-alcoholic hop water options but didn't seem to have any in stock, which may relate to the storm as well. This food truck, however, delivered the goods. It is not a speedy process, and when I tried visiting before they sold out of food before the end of the day so I came early this time. They give you a buzzer so you can wander around and order drinks. When my tofu arrived, it was mouthwatering. The amount of rice was quite large, but this was some aromatic rice, and the tofu itself tasted like high quality stuff and was bathed in an herbal, spicy flavor that I imagine is about as close to Thailand as you could get in Asheville. It was a lot of money for a modestly sized disposable bowl of food, but the quality merited a visit. I doubt I could have found myself eating anything more delicious. And yet, their other menu options remained on my mind.

Given the…read morecomplementary relationship with the many craft breweries that don't do food themselves, plus all the local outdoor events for 9 months of the year, there are some truly great food trucks based here. Cassia is definitely one of the top ones. This is some of the best and most original Thai food I've ever had. They are a regular at Cellarest Beer Project in West Asheville. The food is prepared fresh, but the wait is not too long. And if you sit in the right spot, you may be able to enjoy the fragrant scent of Thai food as it is being prepared in their mobile kitchen. We started with the Firecracker sweet potatoes. These amazing little jewels are mashed sweet potatoes wrapped in the same coating as you'd normally have with a spring roll or won ton. They had a wonderful crispy outside with a flavorful sweet potato mash inside. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was excellent, but we also loved dipping these into the golden curry sauce that came with our curry duck. Where do you ever see curry duck BTW? The duck was cooked perfectly and not at all grisly or chewy. The curry sauce was absolutely incredible. Great flavor along with a nice kick. Between eating the duck and jasmine rice with the curry sauce and dipping some of the Firecrackers in it, there was literally not a speck of curry sauce left behind. We also had chicken Laab Gai. The mint leaves in this were really tasty and not overwhelmingly minty. The sticky rice was good. These came with cabbage leaves that you can roll the meat and rice up in to create a sort of Thai taco. This was good, but not at the same level as the duck curry. Maybe a bit more sauce would help. Prices are restaurant level but well worth it given this is restaurant-quality food or better. We paired the food with two fine beers from Cellarest. The Czech-style Moonglade Tmave pivo had great character. The Weald Oktoberfest Marzen lager was also excellent. Both went very well with the Thai food. Apart from maybe the dead of winter, this will be a place we go back to for more great Thai food.
