Tried this Thai restaurant for first time on a Saturday for lunch. It's on the low end of a 4 star. Service was prompt and friendly. The space was quiet even with a family seated at table nearby. My partner and I enjoyed the ginger honey tea and crab Rangoon. The Spring rolls were tasty and substantial. The calamari plate was attractive. The pad Thai noodles and sauce were delicious although level 2 heat seemed like a lot. Would recommend level 1 if you are heat/spicy adverse. I thought the chicken meat was on the dry side. Shhh...don't tell anyone, but the best Thai food in a town full of great Thai places is a quaint little joint hidden in a weird little strip mall on a hill on a road between Asheville and Weaverville. It's worth finding it. I'm only letting this secret out because I want them to make all of the money. I haven't had an unenjoyable dish, but I will say their Tom Kha, Khao Soi, and Pad Z Ew are the toppest of the top notch. The basil noodle dish is excellent, and the pumpkin curry is so, so good. Even better, the service is friendly and attentive. Tips - Ask for the hot chili oil. Do not order anything Thai hot. I like it hot, but their hot is hot enough to make you question your decisions and decision making processes- don't go Thai hot. You're welcome. read more

This place is tucked away in a little strip shopping area at the top of a hill off of Merrimon, so you won't see it from the main road, but it's definitely worth the little trip up the hill. Nothing fancy, but the staff are very nice and efficient, and the food is very good and reasonably priced. They seem to get a lot of repeat customers (including my son) and they know and acknowledge them when they come back in. I would give them a 4.5, which I rounded up to 5 in this case instead of down to 4. I'll note why I didn't give them exactly a 5. First, we started with the crispy rolls, which are long, straw-like spring rolls filled with minced chicken and deep fried to crispy, golden perfection. They were very tasty and crispy (as the name says) and the dipping sauce was quite good, too (not overly sweet, with some chilis included). For our entrees we had the pumpkin curry (medium hot) with chicken and the tamarind duck (medium hot). The pumpkin curry was excellent. Serving size was ample (we had some left to take home) and there was plenty of tender chicken as well as a nice selection of vegetables cooked to just where they have a little crunch left (not soggy/overly cooked). The sauce in particular was really good. At medium heat level, it had just the right amount of heat at the finish of each bite. The boneless duck breast in the tamarind duck was seriously good -- one of the best servings of duck I've had in an Asian restaurant in ages. The skin somehow stayed nice and crispy even in the sauce. My one nit was that the soy sauce base used for the tamarind sauce was a little too intense and salty. But overall, because of the duck itself, this was a solid entree as well. The white rice on the side was as you would expect in an Asian restaurant (i.e., it had some stickiness to it, with overall good flavor). The one other nit I have is that the cart they use for dirty dishes was visible and maybe a little too close to where customers dine. That could explain the health dept score of 95, which is not bad, but not as high as many restaurants in Asheville that are in the 97 or above range. Overall, a solid Thai restaurant run by a nice family serving above average Thai food. Like my son who gets takeout from here quite a lot (he recommends the spicy fried rice with chicken), it's definitely a place to come back to again when the craving for Thai food hits. read more

Some friends and I were in town on vacay & decided on Thai for dinner. What a great little find this was! The Panang curry was super flavorful. I had it with tofu which was alright but have had better, but the curry sauce was so delicious that it didn't really matter about the tofu. Also at the table was salmon fried rice, chicken vegetable stir fry, cashew chicken, and chicken curry. Everyone ate til either their bellies were full or their plates were empty! Service is prompt and efficient with top offs on drinks constantly available. They have about a dozen tables so the staff is handle service in a timely manner. We grabbed food here to go for Father's Day. We had several orders for a group of 8. This place has great reviews and we are from out of town. While the food was delicious, it was lacking in spice. We had several orders of Panang Curry, a Hot spice level, a Medium, and a Thai hot. We couldn't really tell a difference in spice levels between the three: The spicy fried rice ordered at a medium spice level was hotter than the Thai hot curry. The Spicy fried rice was delicious, but only had the heat level due to the red chili flakes. Overall we recommend, but wish the spice levels lived up to the review. read more

Such an incredibly delicious, family-owned, out-of-the-way find! Our party of 8 on vacation in Asheville was looking for filling Thai food at a sit-down spot. I found Siam Thai online - the restaurant is located in a "strip mall" type area with other random shops - you definitely wouldn't stumble in here unless you are looking for it. Our server was so patient, attentive, kind, and friendly throughout our meal - she & the kitchen were able to graciously accommodate our many modifications, including omitting fish/oyster sauce from many dishes. My family shared the Tom Kha soup to start, which was perfectly tangy, spicy, and warming from the inside. Our Red Curry was hot & spicy, with lots of flavor despite the vegetarian modification, and the Pad Thai (without egg) hit the right balance of sweet and sour with deliciously chewy noodles. The star was the server-recommended Pineapple Fried Rice - we loved the pops of sweet raisin, savory curry flavor, and crunchy cashews. I have been a patron of this restaurant for years. Given them tens of thousands of dollars. Did the patriarch pass away?? What happened? Dove bombed this year. HARD Let's start with the food. Its la solid 3/10 for thai food, but because of its location it is edible. Now they give you maybe 1/4 the same size of meat in every dish. If that. Papaya salad is edible in two bites. Are hurting for money ? We all are. Don't treat your customers like trash ontop of it. That isn't why this is one star. I've never been treated so poorly by the women working here. Our entire family being yelled at because of their complete lack of basic intelligence. They acted like teenage robbers talking back to us and yelling at us. Really desperate people, offensive and never getting a cent from us and I would strongly suggest no one go here. You can make better thai food at home easily. Used to be a decent place when you're feeling lazy and want greasy food, now destined to failure you made a huge mistake and you cannot act like that you are a restaurant, wake up and act accordingly. Siam Thai is only 10-15 minutes north of downtown Asheville and offers takeout & dine in options. Had a great takeout experience this weekend. Walked in, ordered and had hot fresh food in the car within 15 minutes. Enjoyed the dumplings (great dipping sauce!), spring rolls and drunken noodles with chicken. The dumplings and spring rolls were both great and I loved the sauces that accompanied. The drunken noodles were spicy and absolutely delicious; the chicken and veggies were cooked perfectly. Stir Fry curried soft shell crab Massaman Curry with beef Obligatory gyoza Spring rolls I'm not going to go on and on about each of these foods but they were all outstanding. Best Massaman I've ever had! The soft shell crab was ingeniously crafted with crunchy veg and crisp roasted peanuts. It was a 20 minute wait so we sat in the car, the hostess brought our order to us, 5 star service and meal! read more

first impressions : let me start off with the parking lot. the restaurant itself is sort of located on a hill & you drive up the hill to get to the parking spaces. i drive a regular sedan & i scraped the bottom of my sedan while getting up the hill to the restaurant. so, be carful & mindful of the type of car you bring to the restaurant if you plan on parking around the building. there is plenty of parking spaces around the building! as soon as i walked into the restaurant there was NO greeter. the restaurant is a bit on the smaller side so, i could see into the kitchen where there were people working back & forth. the restaurant appears to get a ton of online / take out orders & it was very clear that they were busy. a very nice lady saw me standing at the front from the kitchen & told me that i could chose where i wanted to sit. they have the option for a table and / or booth. customer service : there was a bit of a wait before someone was able to take my drink / appetizer order but, like i said, i could see that they were busy. the lady who helped me was again, very nice & brought the drinks / appetizers out in decent time. the same waitress took my entree order & seemed to be very familiar with the menu. atmosphere : the restaurant was a bit on the smaller side but, it was nice. i wouldn't go as far as to say it was super inviting but, it was clean & had seating options available. there were some other customers in the restaurant & they all appeared to have been having a great time. food : for my drink / appetizer order i got a lemonade, an order of gyoza, and an order of crab rangoon. the gyoza was good. it had a nice partnering sauce as well. the crab rangoon was amazing! i found it so interesting that the crab rangoon came out as a rectangle because usually i always see it in a triangular shape. nonetheless, it was great & i would recommend. as for my entree order, i got a mild yellow chicken curry & it was REMARKABLE. the flavors in the curry were just right. it literally melts in your mouth. my boyfriend ordered a mild pineapple curry & it was just as tasty. i would definitely recommend to get a curry dish. one thing i do want to note is the spice levels. i got mild curry & it was still a bit on the spicer side for me. if you can not take much spice, please let the restaurant know! pricing : i think everything on the menu was reasonably priced. here are the prices for everything i got. lemonade & other sodas - $2.50 gyoza ( 5 count ) - $5.95 crab rangoon ( 2 count ) - $5.95 yellow & pineapple chicken curry - $13.95 each [ price depends on your choice of protein ] address : 100 stone ridge boulevard asheville, north carolina 28804 in conclusion, if you are looking for a good thai restaurant that is a bit more on the quieter side, siam thai is the place to go. there is plenty of parking, the service is great & the food is amazing. read more

We have dined at Siam Thai many times in the last few years. The food was very tasty a well prepared. Last night was a different story. We had the Three Buddies appetizer and the spring rolls and (?) crab rangoon were over cooked and virtually had no taste. Our orange chicken meal was prepared with obviously frozen chicken bits that were dry and tasteless. It appears from the staff, that there has been a new owner in place. I was excited to try this place based on the reviews but it was just okay for us. Ordered delivery on a rainy evening and got the pad thai w/ chicken, pumpkin curry with tofu, and tom yum w/ tofu, but the curry came with chicken by mistake. The food was piping hot and portions were generous (easily 2 meals per entree) but all of the dishes tasted very sweet, and the pad thai had a ton of sauce which made it pretty heavy. Having moved to the south recently I do feel like a lot of food is sweeter and heavier in general, so this may just be tailored more to people's taste here, but if you're looking for a healthier style this probably isn't it. I'd recommend getting Thai spicy if you like spicy food, it has a kick but it's not overpowering at all. Prices are reasonable for the area, especially given the amount of food you're getting. I'll definitely give it another shot at some point but will try other dishes next time. read more

We always order the crispy rolls as an appetizer, get a fried rice and one of the curries, and finish the meal with the sticky rice with mango. Prices are pretty reasonable. Portions are big. This is the only Thai restaurant I've been able to find in Asheville that knows how to make gluten-free and vegan (no fish sauce) and still make it taste good. I have tried 2 other Thai places and when you request gluten-free and vegan- the food tastes disgusting (like I have to throw it out). I have to admit I was hesitant to come in after seeing just one waitress and many people inside, but thank goodness I stayed. This place is wonderful. I haven't had Thai in a while and this was delightful. It is I located in a business park/strip mall type of facility but don't stress on that. The food and nice staff make up for any ambience or location qualms. The Pad see ew and pumpkin curry were amazing. The gyoza appetizer was good but the main dishes were the stars of the show. This has long been one of my favorite secrets in Asheville. I have been a regular for a long time. The food is still excellent. And if you ask for thai-hot they take you seriously. The last time I went in I noticed a white board on the sidewalk proclaiming a new payment policy: all menu prices are cash prices and they "reserve the right" to charge up to 4% for using a card. Here's my beef: you either do or do not charge a fee, and you explicitly state what the fee is going to be. Anything else is deceptive and Shady. Credit card fees are just part of the cost of doing business. If you wish to pass them on to your customers be upfront and transparent about it. It is likely I will continue to go and enjoy their fabulous food, but I will always "reserve the right" to pay cash. read more
