Cumin Lamb, Boil Fish Fillet Chili Sauce
    Vivian Q.

Had been hearing high reviews about this place, and enjoyed our dinner here. I enjoyed the stir-fried lamb with cumin the best of our selection. The food was good but I found it to be pretty standard, not too sure what makes it special enough to be Michelin recommended. Ordering is done via QR code, for some dishes you are able to specify spice level, and keep in mind you have to pay for rice by the bowl. Service seemed variable - I noticed servers for other tables carefully taking food away from the table to pack it at the back counter, but for us our server packed our food right at the table, subjecting us to splashes from the pouring.

Really delicious chinese restaurant! Never heard of this place and tried it out based on high yelp reviews. Located on Main Street in Alhambra, there's tons of delicious restaurants like Sichuan impression. Parking was simple, the parking structure is in the same building as the restaurant. To order your food, you scan the QR code at your table and order everything through your phone.I honestly would love to get a physical menu with photos and an employee taking my order. I would like human interaction. Ordered the stir fry dry green beans, tea smoked pork ribs, wonton in chili oil, and beef noodle soup. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious! I would reorder everything! The pork ribs were perfect texture and flavor! Interior is beautiful, food is delicious and looks beautiful as well. Staff was very friendly although not so attentive. I would definitely come back!

Wow. Just wow. Some of the most authentic cuisine I've had. We catered for a small dinner party and ordered for pick up/ to go. Everything was delicious. We ordered the Cold noodles, original Kung Pao chicken, mini lamb skewers, wontons in chili oil, string beans, rice and some other things. Each bite was better than the next. Cold noodles and wontons were my favorite. Noodles were impressive indeed. So flavorful. Lamb skewers had a nice little kick to them. So glad I got to try this place! Would love to check it out again when in town

My friends and I came to Sichuan impression on a Sunday night around 7:30 PM. They were still pretty busy during this time and I was not surprised by it. We've been at their location in Tustin and I heard this one was better than that location I was really excited about it. Teson is really good too, so I had a pretty good expectation on this location. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated by the staff member and she was pretty efficient and on top of things. I have attached here, but the ambience is pretty lively, but also not too loud. It was an enjoyable experience where you can talk with each other and be able to hear one another. At the same time, they had a clean and classy decor to their interior design. We ordered the stirfry lamb with cumin, shredded potato, and the chili oil fish fillet. The Lamb - 5/5 was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a very nice heat to it. Be careful because this is not for those sensitive to spicy food, but if you do like spicy, this has such a nice kick to it. The shredded potato - 5/5 one of my favorite dishes to substitute for the rice. Don't be deceived by how it looks. It definitely has a kick and can numb your mouth; however, you can still taste the pickled flavor in each bite. The chilli oil fish - 5/5 one of my most favorite dishes from both locations. Although the spiciest of the dishes, you taste the flavor through each bite. The dish is perfectly cooked and just dissolves in your mouth. Overall I am extremely satisfied with our visit and recommend coming here if you're ever in the area!!

Came by Sichuan Impression and had a pretty mixed experience overall. We ordered the spicy squid tentacles dry pot, which honestly was a bit disappointing. The squid tentacles were tiny, and the dish felt like it was mostly filled with mixed vegetables. For $25.99, it definitely felt a little like a rip-off. On the brighter side, the Tea Smoked Pork Rib was really good--super flavorful and probably my favorite dish of the meal. That said, most of the menu is on the pricier side, and the portions aren't very generous, so value-wise it's a bit questionable. Service was just okay. No one really checked in on us, and we had to wave our hands a few times to get attention when we needed something. Overall, solid flavors in some dishes, but the portion size and pricing hold it back from being a full 5 stars.

First time checking this spot out and it did not disappoint. Service was friendly and quick, which made everything super smooth. The restaurant was very clean and well kept. The food though, easily the highlight. Everything came out packed with bold, authentic Sichuan flavors and just the right amount of heat. Solid first impression overall. Definitely a spot I'd come back to. Fried Pork Intestine 10/10 - The intestines were perfectly cooked, super crispy and packed with flavor. The celery balanced out the intense heat of the spices. This was a really well crafted dish. Kung Pao Chicken 9/10 - This dish was sweet and savory, with a hint of spices. Twice Cooked Pork 6/10 - The pork was good and tender. The dish was well seasoned, but the veggies didn't really go well with the pork. It was a solid dish, nothing to write home about. Note: They currently have a weekday special going on (see my pictures for more information).

Always wanted to try this place out! Despite the name, they actually have a good amount of non-spicy dishes here to offer. We first started off with ordering A-Choy, Tea Smoked Pork Rib, and the flaming pork jowl. The choy came out first, which even though it's a super simple dish, it was quite tasty! The Tea Smoked Pork Rib was also pretty good, it falls off the bone! It has a prominent smoky flavor to it, which was pretty nice. We also got the pork jowl which was pretty unique. We didn't know how 'fancy' the dish was lol but they also poured alcohol over it over hot stones, and you eat it with lettuce and garnishes for a refreshing bite. All of the dishes were pretty good. Service was pretty standard. It wasn't too busy so it was pretty quick for us to receive our food. There wasn't that many people either so we were seated quickly. It does feel more of a modern Chinese restaurant, which the dishes were also more nicely presented. Although, the price point feels kinda expensive for what it is lol. I wouldn't say the ribs would be $30 worth given the portion size either, nor the pork jowl. It feels more like an elevated experience with the ambiance and presentation, but the food is just 'good'.

Portions here are big. Everything tastes great. My favorite was the pig trotters, pork spare ribs, and the fried intestine. The bamboo, beef noodle soup, smoked duck were all really good. Service was good very attentive. I love the mala spice. The restaurant is very clean and modern looking. HAPPY MALA SPICING!!

There is a mandatory 20% service fee. Be prepared before you come. Worst place ever. Dishes are so small.

During our trip to LA, I was looking forward to great eats in the SGV area. I've been wanting to have Sichuan Impression again since having it at the Tustin location a few years ago. We were surprised and pleased to see that the location has been Michelin recommended two times! We ordered the maocai, chongqing chicken/laziji, and cold noodles. Everything hit the spot and satisfied my cravings. I think my only complaints was the maocai was a bit too oily...and I wish the food was a tad bit spicier and numbing because the Tustin location didn't seem to shy away from spice. :) I do love how their teas and drinks come in a huge, tall glass mug and is worth the money! The waiters were super friendly and checked in with us often.

Wow! Just WOW! =] I can see why this place is so popular. The flavors for every dish HITTTTTT!! I don't know about the other dishes, but what we ordered from the DineLA Menu was AMAZzinggg! lol The tea smoked ribs were tender. It didn't fall off the bone, but it was good. If only it was a bit more juicy, it would have been a 10/10 lol My fav was definitely the wontons in chili oil. Omg, I could eat 10 of it hahha it was that good!! The garlic flavor really hit the spot.. Not the biggest fan of the bean jelly cold noodle, but it was not bad at all. The couple's sliced beef in chili sauce was my 2nd fav. Each slice of beef was soft and packed with flavor. It had a good amount of spice that gives you a little kick. Wok-fried Cauliflower w/crispy pork lard was a hit at the table. Everybody loved it. We found ourselves wanting more and more of it. I also had a coupon for a complimentary sweet potato balls. It was delicious. I can eat a bunch of these too. Luckily, we arrived early for dinner. When we were halfway eating, the line was crazy. Sichuan Impression really left a good IMPRESSION... $72 DineLA was definitely worth it. It was family style...so the $72 set was for a party of 3-4. My friend thought it was $72 pp...lol she was surprised. Service was alright Nice restaurant =]

The food is very good and made with quality ingredients. I wish I knew how they smoke the poutry and pork meats, as it is always perfectly smoked. The wonton soups and dumplings were tasty and filling. I was cautious about the spicy foods but found they do have mild foods too. If you have a sweet tooth, they also have an Ube custard like dessert which the kids really liked. Although the location is small, the food quality is excellent along with the respectable service.

Michelin guide recommended, but my experience fell flat. We went on a Saturday evening for dinner. They have underground parking but we found street parking a few blocks away. The place was packed and there was a decent wait list. Luckily, we were seated at a table fairly quickly. Ordering is automated via QR code, so there was minimal interaction with the staff. The food came out quickly. We ordered tea smoked pork ribs, boiled fish with rattan pepper, A choy, and mini lamb skewers. Food was cooked decently but most dishes needed more flavor. The pork fell off the bone easily but tasted bland. The fish was tender but I could not drink the broth due to intensity of peppercorns. This is not probably not a fault of the chef, but it just irritates my throat. The lamb was a bit dry and had minimal spice (coming from a guy who doesn't tolerate spice). The dish had almost as many peppers as meat. Unfortunately, the vegetables outshined all the proteins, which says something... I wanted to really like this place and would be open to trying it again. At least I left with a full stomach.

We'd been talking about getting Chinese food, and he picked Xiang La Hui, his go-to spot for classic Sichuan. I'd never been before, and was more than happy to try a new spot in the SGV. We met up at noon and stayed until the restaurant wrapped up lunch service and gently pushed us out the door, sometime around 2:30. The space was nice, instantly recognizable as a Chinese restaurant in Alhambra. It was pretty quiet the whole time, a good place for a leisurely catch-up. Service was fast and polite, though the combination of QR code ordering and poor Verizon service was a bummer. I had to cross the dining room to take down the wifi password posted on the opposite wall. We ordered a sizable spread for two people: Chong Qing fried chicken, dan dan noodles, wontons with chili oil, and pea tips with garlic. Everything was delicious, most of all the Chong Qing fried chicken, crispy nibbly bits of breaded chicken stir-fried with green onion and hot pepper. I love dan dan noodles and wontons, and thought both were great, if not the best I've had in the area. The pea tips were lovely, bright green and not spicy, but abundantly flavorful. I'd love to come back to Xiang La Hui and try more of the menu. It seems like a restaurant that does everything well, and I'll keep it in mind whenever I'm craving Sichuan.

A Rare Gem of Authentic Sichuan Cuisine Yesterday, I…read morediscovered a hidden gem: Chuan Wa Zi (川娃子)!Szechuan Delicious! Every single dish I tasted--from the authenticity of the flavors to the freshness of the ingredients and the precision of the wok heat (huohuo)--absolutely blew me away. Usually, entering a Sichuan restaurant means being blasted by "spicy, spicy, spicy" and "numbing, numbing, numbing," with choices limited to just water-boiled, sour soup, or mala flavors. However, the chef at Chuan Wa Zi uses only the freshest ingredients to create dishes that are pure and original. My friends were all full of praise! The Highlights of the Meal * Morel Mushroom & Chicken Consommé: Served in a double-boiled stew pot, the unique sweetness of the morels combined with the delicate fragrance of the chicken was so addictive I couldn't stop at just one bowl. * Braised Lamb with Radish: This featured skin-on young lamb--tender and perfectly cooked yet retaining a delightful chew. The radish was braised until deeply flavorful, and the cilantro garnish was the perfect touch, elevating the aroma without overpowering the richness of the lamb. There was zero gamey smell. Eating the lamb skin provided a boost of collagen--a truly nourishing and warming dish. * Chengdu Baby Cabbage (Er Cai): Stir-fried in a rich broth, it was incredibly sweet with a hint of bitterness that perfectly balanced the richness of the lamb. According to traditional wisdom, "five flavors nourish the five organs." Sichuan's baby cabbage is only in season for one month during spring. It's known to clear "heart fire," refresh the mind, and improve sleep. * Sautéed Pork with Celtuce (Lettuce Stem): The pork was incredibly silky and tender, achieved not through baking soda or heavy starch, but purely through masterly knife work and heat control. Paired with the crisp celtuce, it was a perfect harmony of "silky" and "crunchy." * Sichuan Jelly Noodles (Liangfen): Added at the last minute, Jing (host of Oushang Beauty Spa) claimed these are the most authentic and smooth jelly noodles in Greater Los Angeles. Made purely from mung bean starch with no additives, the texture was clean and soft. The seasoning was light and balanced--just a simple blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, chili oil, garlic, and cilantro. From start to finish, there was no overwhelming spiciness or discomfort--just a comforting and refreshing dining experience that leaves you wanting more. House-Made Specialties It's worth mentioning that the owner personally prepares all the cold appetizers, such as the Smoked Pressed Duck and the platter of Handmade Sausages, Cured Pork (Larou), Cured Ribs, and Spicy Pork Head Meat. They were fragrant and meaty without any of the oily aftertaste often found in over-dried meats. We saw many people calling in to order these platters to go as snacks for drinks (xiajiu), and we definitely plan to do the same next time! Chef's Recommendations & Hidden Menu They offer a variety of other specialties like Pork Tripe in Golden Soup, Spicy Eel with Glass Noodles, and Basu "Glutton" Bullfrog. Some dishes, like our Lamb and Chicken Soup, must be pre-ordered by phone. Their classic Sichuan stir-fries--Flash-fried Kidney, Mao Xue Wang, Laziji (Chili Chicken), and Twice-cooked Pork--are all spectacular. They even serve Xian Shao Bai (Savory Steamed Pork Belly), a nearly lost classic that requires incredible knife skills and offers a perfect balance of sweet and savory. A Sweet Ending To wrap up, the owner's wife treated us to their Handmade Fermented Rice Soup (Laozao) with four-colored mini tangyuan (glutinous rice balls). Each color had a different natural flavor--sour fruit, rich sesame, and red bean--with no artificial coloring. The soup had a delicate fermented aroma and silky egg drops, providing a perfect ending to our feast. Closing Thoughts It has been a long time since I've had food this authentic that wasn't "scary spicy." I am truly grateful to find a restaurant that treats cooking as an art and operates with such a strong conscience and craftsmanship.

What a nice surprise! Authentic Sichuan dishes, delicious flavors, and very reasonably priced…read more Definitely worth a visit.
