Food's much better now! More variety and flavor. More ethnic touches. Big improvement.

It's incredible that the college allowed such an awesome course to be installed on their premises. The college itself also looks like a great place to further your education, who wouldn't want to be here looking out at such a wonderful landscape. If your looking for a great hike and a course that will test every shot this is the one to put on your list. Way to go Sierra College!

Jerry Brown's doorknob at the Capitol) I can write my review. Pros: -Like all colleges in the California Community College system, you cannot beat the financial deal here. Something like $42 a credit. -There are great teachers here who genuinely care about their students and coursework/intellectual integrity. This is nothing short of a miracle considering 98% of the instructors are underpaid, part-time employees with NO benefits. -It is a great place to have a "soft start" if you've been out of school for a while. -If you are in the Tahoe basin, can't beat the commute. Right off I-80. -Super friendly administrative support at the front desk. Those ladies run the place and my hats off to them. -Teachers are often also practitioners in their field. -Relaxed vibe. Very relaxed. -$30 parking permit. Seriously. Cons: -Only 10% of community college students are able to transfer to a BA degree-granting program. -Some of your classmates will be on the 10-year plan, if you get my drift, where CC enrollment is a lifestyle choice (hence the recent kibosh of unlimited credits on financial aid w/ out penalty). -Some of your classmates may have been recently released from a mental hospital, halfway house, or related venue. Proceed with caution. -You may have to swallow hard and receive workshop critiques from entitled high school students who have no compunction saying, "Your writing sucks." -Some of your classmates who are older and have kids, medical appointments, work, etc. (Read: EXCUSES) will expect you to be their "note bitch." DON'T DO IT! -Don't expect stellar academic counseling. I became my own counselor, transfer coordinator, and captain of my own ship after almost capsizing from the non-advice I received at Sierra College and will end up with 27 credits beyond the minimum needed for my BA degree program. -Building is freezing cold in winter and has NO hot water in sinks and bathrooms get filthy by the end of the day since they put maintenance staff on limited hours. To conclude, if you don't mind slogging through some mire and bootstrapping your way to an education, have at it. As they say, nothing is free, so don't be fooled by the low prices. You will pay for your education here, but for all my bitching I'm grateful for SC and what I learned here, in and out of the classroom.

US Davis Tahoe City Field Station…read more Came across US Davis Tahoe City Field Station during my 10-day stay at Lake Tahoe for working company retreat. UC Davis holds special place in my heart. Got excited! Returned twice to check it out and take photos. Walked around the native plant demonstration garden, read all the posted info, in support of environmental research, preserving Lake Tahoe natural ecology & education center. "This is the place to explore, discover and learn about what we can do to keep Tahoe blue." Pretty important place, if you ask me! There's an outdoor pathway around the building and the demonstration garden with native plants. It makes sense to go native, because native plants thrive in natural soil and climate without much of a special effort, extra watering, or fertilization with chemicals, plus they are adopted to native pests! Ericsson Education Center is focused on protective and restorative efforts for Lake Tahoe ecology. It was still closed down for COVID when I visited. There's also Bill Combs Memorial Boathouse on the property. He was a prominent Lake Tahoe advocate who served as a board member for various foundations and helped raise funds for Tahoe research and education. The boats and equipment are used to study the root causes of the decline in Lake Tahoe legendary clarity. I would definitely visit again when I'm back in this area. Location: northbound of Tahoe City on Hwy 28 to Dollar Point. I presume they will keep pre-pandemic work hours for indoor exhibits when the field station re-opens: 8am - 6pm Memorial Day through Labor Day. If you prefer a guided tour, they are given on Saturdays 10am - 2pm and could be arranged by calling 775-881-7566 or via email tercinfo@ucdavis.edu. Pictures posted taken on Sunday 6/13/2021. I spent every dollar of my budget and was excited that would know her entire history. When I went to pick her up, I was informed that she was actually purchased some months prior to the auction. She was not bred there, born there, raised there, or trained there. When I asked for her vet records, they said they had nothing but her vaccine records. The last horse that I had was a wonderful mare that I had to euthanize less than two years after I got her. Her previous owner was my "friend" who completely lied to me about it her health. I fell in love with her and was heartbroken that I had to say goodbye so soon for her sake. For this reason, I decided to purchase from Feather River College as I thought they would have all of the horse's history. But they didn't! Or did they? My horse showed her lameness immediately when I brought her home. I got X-rays done and her hocks are destroyed, just after she turned 4. I found her previous owner (since she's not a FRC horse) only to learn that she had 30 days of riding on her prior to going to the college. So all that damage happened at the school. I contacted them and they said they were shocked! To make a long story slightly shorter, I sued them. And I won. They appealed and brought a lawyer to small claims court and I won a second time. In my opinion, this school isn't truthful. They would never give me all of the vet records for my horse. I tracked some records down but I know there are more that they won't give me. They also don't make it clear that all the horses they auctioning off aren't FRC horses. Additionally, they tried to blame me for their garbage because I utilized their online auction, but the judge shut them down. In the end, they had to pay up and they sent me a check that was $1.40 short. WTF? So I made them send me a second check. I wouldn't trust this school if you want to learn anything about horses or if you want to buy a horse. They have had horses returned and in their president's words, "they lost thousands of dollars" because of it! So, buyer beware! I love my horse! She's not a riding horse as her hocks are completely destroyed. But she and I will be pals. If you're looking for a riding horse, go to Cal Poly!

Forestry Camp (circa 1917) is run by UC Berkeley's Forestry Department/College of Natural Resources…read moreand is situated in Meadow Valley, CA in Plumas County. The closest "big town" is Quincy (about 15-25 minute drive away), and the closest "city" would be Reno, NV about 100 miles away (about two hours). Every summer, Forestry Camp is home to an intense 8-week summer course that sees undergraduates from various disciplines and universities taking four introductory forestry courses. They familiarize students with the local Sierra Nevada ecology, map and compass skills, and forestry equipment (e.g. diameter to breast height tape, clinometers, etc.) before tackling more advanced topics including silviculture and utilization (how to grow trees and then utilize the end products known as lumber). It is an extremely exciting session, and it is required of all Forestry students at Cal. It is a fast way of earning a Forestry minor at Cal, which was what I did. Students from other universities across the nation (not just limited to the UC system) may apply and sign up for camp. It usually accommodates between 30 to perhaps 45 campers. Students are housed in "bunkhouses" comprised of four rooms with two students to a room. If there aren't as many students for a year though, you may end up having a room all to yourself (as was my case). Other students who want a more up-and-close experience with nature can opt for "shantyhouse cabins" that are standalone cabins on the outskirts of camp. They have mesh screens and aren't as insulated as a result. They're still two to a cabin, and are hotly sought after at the start of camp. There is plenty more information that I want to write about Forestry Camp, but there is a text limit on Yelp so I've striven to provide an introductory text to what it is. But I do want to say that coming to camp during my undergraduate career was one of the best decisions I made in college. Of all my years of education, I have never felt like I have learned anything more useful than what I did here. I was always appreciative everyday going to class that I was learning among all these towering Douglas Firs and sugar pine trees. I felt that I lived more in the 56 or so days I spent here in Meadow Valley than in my whole life. Of course, your mileage may vary. All in all, Forestry Camp is home to an amazing collegiate experience. You spend almost your entire day with your fellow campers, seven days a week. You learn so much about a critical natural resource. And then on the weekends you go to Thunder Cafe and recreate in the woods and creeks. If you want to learn more, hit me up.
