Signal Hill Library is one of those "multiple-stop" destinations. Nestled within a community park, the library is surrounded by amenities that make it easy to spend several hours there. The park includes a children's playground, basketball and tennis courts, outdoor restrooms, picnic tables, and plenty of space for respectful visitors to enjoy. The library itself offers convenient hours and a good variety of seating options. There are tables with built-in electrical outlets, although the outlets occasionally provide low voltage or do not function consistently. In addition to standard chairs, there are several firmer, couch-style lounge chairs located in the back half of the library. The facility also includes study areas, private study rooms, a conference room, a dedicated teen section, a computer area, and a large children's center. My personal favorite feature is the campus-like outdoor patio. It includes a fireplace, comfortable outdoor furniture, and umbrellas, creating an inviting space to work, read, relax, or enjoy a meal. It's the perfect place to take a break and appreciate the day while visiting the library. The areas that could use the most improvement are the inconsistent Wi-Fi connection and the maintenance of the restrooms. At times, the Wi-Fi can be unreliable, and the bathrooms are not always fully stocked with toilet paper and soap. The trash receptacles could also be emptied more frequently to better accommodate the volume of visitors. Overall, the ambiance is neutral in both color palette and aesthetic. While the design is fairly standard and not particularly distinctive, it is comfortable, functional, and well-suited for studying, working remotely, or simply spending a quiet afternoon. read more

I love coming to this library - i would give them 5 stars because most people are kind and helpful. The lady at the reference desk was so rude, whoever was there on a thursday at 3pm. I had a very quick question to ask her and that only required a yes/no answer - and she told me to wait - and i just quickly asked it for a yes/no and she rolled her eyes so diligently ... this place, especially the library is suppose to be very friendly and welcoming - but as an employee there to CLEARLY ROLL her eyes.... so sad read more

You can say that I am a connoisseur of libraries. I practically grew up in libraries, the most familiar one in my childhood was Cerritos Public Library, which is a phenomenal library on its own right, but that's not what I am reviewing today. The newly renovated, completely rebuilt from the ground up, Signal Hill Library rivals some of the best modern libraries. The glass walls let in plenty of natural light, which removes any claustrophobic feelings. The layout is open and inviting, and there is a dedicated children's section with a friendly sauropod and a teen section sporting a network of outlets for their electronic gadgets. I love the newspaper/archive area enclosed in the center of the library. The displays are informative of the history of the city and the library. The original Signal Hill Library was in the basement of the city hall back in the 1920's. It felt like a catacomb. Boy have we come a long way from those days. Parking is plentiful, and the air conditioning is powerful to provide a retreat from the summer heat. The bathroom is modern and clean, and the community room hosts events like plays and expert discussions. There is a spacious outside area with shaded seating for any outdoor events. I am certainly adding this library to my list of favorites. read more

it's almost never open, and there's never enough notice. closed for one event after another. it should just be a community hall with a few books. they charge to do that borrow from another library thing they talk about on their web site. finally, they use an entire sheet of paper for every on hold request. read more

We loved visiting the Signal Hill Library! Some friends invited us for Bingo and we took our three little ones and had the best time! The person leading Bingo was friendly and patient. The library is beautiful and left us all wanting to return soon. The huge dinosaur in the kids section steals the show. We will definitely be back soon. read more

A beautifully remodeled modern library with a very cute kids section and plenty of study spaces and desks with outlets.

Come here all the time, it's nice and quiet due to most people thinking its not open during construction (or being too lazy to call and check in) so there's never much of a distraction unless it's parents being irresponsible and letting their kids run around. (To my delight there's a sign about that reminding parents that it is in fact their job to, you know, PARENT their kids. It's a library, not the playground just a few feet away.) The staff are super helpful and the book selection always satisfies, in spite of the temporary location and size. The mini events they host are always adorable, too. I love seeing the kids positively involved in local happenings. read more

I come here to study and charge my stuff about every other day. I like that they stay open pretty late most days, and it's usually a pretty quiet nice place to relax. It's well air conditioned and the staff are very friendly. They seem to have a smaller selection of books than most libraries, but I usually don't go there for books. Plenty of charging stations and a very tables and chairs to sit back and study/do work on. read more

Whatever happened to the librarian that would "shhhh!" loud patrons??? I came with my daughter for a quiet spot to work on our assignments, and it was a raucus club full of loud teens and loud speaking seniors. The "librarians" were basically just front desk receptionists that did nothing to quiet the environment. Even after I complained that it was loud, the librarian simply said "yeah..." and went about her business. No wonder the state keeps closing these down... read more

I'm currently sitting here with my headphone and music blasting and still hear the patrons yelling around me. How is it that no one is telling them to be quiet. I figured if i sit here giving the librarians dirty looks (they are looking DIRECTLY AT ME), they might get off their butts and actually tell these people to keep their voices down. but i doubt it. I will no longer be coming here EVER. waste of my time. read more

Beautiful new library! Perhaps the book & audio/visual items are the same in quantity as in the small old library but additional PCs & technology equipment have been added. More study rooms, meeting rooms, community rooms & lounge areas are great. The decor in the children's area is impressive as is the entire new building. There's also a terrace upstairs available for community & private events. A wonderful addition to little Signal Hill. read more

This bitty library is nestled between Signal Hill City Hall and the park. The staff is very welcoming to everyone, and helpful. When they aren't assisting customers, you will find them reading. It's not super quiet inside, it feels like a local research center. read more

I have to agree with a few of the previous reviewers that although this is called a library, it is barely that. It does have books, and I can't comment on the selection as that was not my purpose for going there. I went there to try to study, and what a terrible idea. The place is so loud! There are always children running around and yelling, and the staff who work there don't attempt to even keep there own voices at an "indoor" level. Also, the hours are weird too. What kind of library opens at noon? The only pros is that it is close to where I live and has ample parking. read more

I loved this library! I take my daughter there everyday after school. Very clean. The staffs are all very nice and friendly.

I love this place!! I go here to study for my work and it's quiet all the time. The staff is helpful to everyone in this library. When I was there one time this little kid asked one of the librarians to help him with his homework and she did help. I rate this 5/5! read more
