10.24.25 I've been here a handful of times and have enjoyed dining here each time. I've had a couple so so servers but I don't usually critique a place so harsh for that. The majority of times the servers have been great. Most of them I've encountered seem to be experienced & seasoned servers who have been in the business for a while. The restaurant is stuck on a side street where you can almost walk right by unless you were looking for it. They have a small patio out front with a few tables to enjoy during the summer. It's nicely decorated and simple. Very clean always. They have had a special that they have been running for a few years now, if not longer that's a prix fixe menu that's a very good deal. We usually take advantage of that and it comes with a salad or soup with an app, entree & dessert. Great deal for a reasonable price. The food is always delicious. I've tried pasta dishes to lamb chops to a steak. Always cooked properly. My absolute go to that you must try is this amazing fries mozzarella. It is the best lightest, fluffiest most pillowy fried mozz I've ever had in my life. It's true mouth gasm. Don't know how it's always so light and fluffy for fried mozz. It's mind blowing good. Yes that good. Really :-) They're a fairly quiet place and a lot of the locals meet up. Always starts off slow when they open for dinner by it's pretty lovely and busier when I leave. We haven't been back to Signatures Restaurant in about two years so happy we stopped by. Such a classy Restaurant it's a great place for a date night . The food is great and it's not that expensive. I had the Grilled Salmon with rice and Vegetable nice size portion and very tasting so much food that I had to take it home. My Husband had Cavatelli and Broccoli Rabe and Sausage it was excellent seasoned to perfection. Our server was very friendly and super attentive. I was told this was one of the better restaurants in Waterbury, and it was highly recommended. I am not sure if that made my expectations too high. Although this restaurant is set in the middle of a somewhat unsavory location, it does have a good decor and ambience going for it. The staff is very friendly and attentive. However, the food leaves much to be desired. I started off with the pierogi which I felt was overpeppered and undersalted. The waitress was very forthcoming with her recommendation of the stuffed chicken special. Apparently, it is exclusive to the Friday night menu and there are regulars that come on Fridays specifically for this dish. It has amaretto in it that blew out my palette and I found it to be way too sweet. I traded my dish for the chicken St. Ginsburg which was more to my taste. I was severely disappointed in the vegetables it came with. It felt like they were added on to the dish as an afterthought. Much like an overworked mother might throw greens haphazardly onto the plate after cooking dinner to appear like she is producing a complete meal. There were an overwhelming amount of inedible seeds that had not been properly removed. And the veggies were very bland and mushy. I've been wanting to try signatures for quite some time and randomly popped in with a friend. It had a nice atmosphere. I didn't feel underdressed in jeans although others were in business casual attire. It was a little crowded which shows they are doing something right. And it wasn't a play night! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I wanted a virgin mojito but they didn't have mint. She recommended a mocktail instead that I thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the prixe fixe menu which came with salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert. Let me tell you, this is definitely a steal!!! Large portions and the flavors were amazing. My waitress told me the crowd favorite entrees to help with my indecisiveness. The menu lists some amazing dishes. For my appetizer I ordered the mushroom risotto. I wasn't that fond of the mushroom risotto but it's not their fault. It's a dish I keep trying and I'm coming to realize just isn't my jam. The salad dressing was phenomenal-highly recommended. Im not sure if it was the house dressing because I didn't specifically ask for honey Dijon dressing. My entree was lamb chops that were cooked to perfection. The glaze was out of this world! I think their potatoes may be my favorite potatoes I've had in the past few years. So rich and creamy with tons of flavor. The veggies were a lil lackluster in comparison to the rest of this stellar dish. My friend ordered the shrimp scampi and he enjoyed it. The dessert was amazing. The crispy top layer of the crème brûlée broke wonderfully and tasted PHENOMENAL. The custard bottom was soooo creamy and rich with vanilla flavor, it was a dream come true. Chose this place as a pre show dinner before the Palace. Had reservations--yet dinner took 1 and half hours to come out! We sat and sat and sat! Glad we got there early or we'd have missed the show! The bartender was not familiar with how the food is prepared. I asked what came with the scallops, he said rice--it was mashed potatoes. Asked how scallops were prepared, not correct on that either. A friend and I were on our way to a nearby restaurant that was closed. We were greeted by this lovely lady who said why not try their restaurant. We agreed. We were so surprised by the ambiance that was hidden in what is almost a back alley building. The staff was so friendly and welcoming and made sure our first experience was great. One of my new favorite restaurants! Super impressed by the prix fixe menu offered during the week. Generous portions at a great price, and everything we had was delicious. I especially loved the fried mozzarella, which was super unique and very reminiscent of the local Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast's fried dough. I loved the vibe of the restaurant because it felt like such a classy, old-time Waterbury restaurant that I didn't think existed anymore. Chicken Milanese is basic cutlet, but the typical recipe used in the USA calls it be served either over or under a salad of greens with tomato, onion, and freshly shaved Parmaggiano. Optionally a Ceasar Salad. It is not a chicken cutlet in a white sauce with capers, over angel hair pasta. Not ever. Not once. Not even at olive garden. Yet here we are...aggressive defensiveness and stalkerish behavior over being dead-wrong. So somewhere between the casual disrespect for the culinary arts, the history of the two dishes in their simplicity, the lazy carelessness and absolute and utter contempt for the customers they also chose to harass...I'm going to call them out. Save yourself the money. Avoid this crap hole at all costs. Then again, what do you expect from a joint that thinks "Soup of the Day is Vodka" is witty and not at all indicative of the substance abuse issues within. My daughter and I had a delicious meal at Signatures Restaurant last weekend. It is a very warm and cozy restaurant and had wonderful service. I ordered the fried calamari, and it was crispy and tender. My main dish was eggplant rollatini which was the best I have ever had. My daughter had a delicious steak dinner with mash potatoes and fresh stringbeans, which she loved. All of our courses came out the correct temperature, which is always important to me and all of the portions were very large. We had a wonderful surprise engagement dinner for my aunt and her fiancé here! Diane, the new owner, was beyond accommodating to our group, and guys, the food - SO GOOD. From top to bottom we were impressed - the staff was welcoming as we arrived and quickly served up some delicious drinks (I had a mojito with house grown mint - YUM) as we mingled at the big beautiful bar and waited for the guests of honor to arrive. I had the house soup (delish!), eggplant parm (so good!), and the cannoli (Yum!), the portions weren't skimpy and the food was just delicious! Signatures is one of the few good things about downtown Waterbury. It's a cool place with a great atmosphere and good service. Diane the owner is usually there and she is on top of things. I've had just about everything on their menu and I really like most everything I've had there (not a fan of the lobster ravioli). The rack of lamb,pork chop are my favorites, steaks are good and their risottos are excellent. They run a pork osso bucco special on Fridays and prime rib Saturday night that is very good as well. We decided to eat at Signatures before we attended Chazz Palminteri's one-man show "A Bronx Tale" at the nearby Palace Theater (FYI a MUST SEE). We were driving up from Queens and because there was heavy traffic we decided to call and make a reservation. Thank God we did! The place was booked save for 2 spots at the bar, which we gladly reserved for 6:15. From the moment we walked in, we loved the layout and decor of the place. We were promptly greeted warmly by a couple of staff members who confirmed our reservation. We grabbed our reserved seat at the bar and placed our wine (Sauvignon Blanc) and appetizer (Fried Calamari and Caesar Salad) order. It was the biggest order of fried calamari we have EVER seen - we were pleasantly surprised with its size and with the never-before-tried sprinkles of blue cheese. The Caesar salad was delicious also! I ordered a sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe. She ordered ravioli. They were both delicious. The patrons sitting at the bar were all friendly as well. We sat down next to a man who was celebrating his 88th birthday! Everyone was so welcoming especially when we mentioned driving 3 hours from Queens to see the play! I'm embarrassed that I can't remember our server's name but he was fantastic! Super friendly, super welcoming, super attentive. The food was great. The ambience was great. The experience was great overall. The irony behind this story is that my Mom and I were looking for a particular restaurant...not this one. We didn't realize that we were not in the place we were looking for... Mom ordered calves liver which came smothered in sautéed onions and bacon. Cooked medium and it came with an abundance of smashed potatoes and a vegetable. She declared it one of the most delicious she's ever had!! It's not often that you see it offered on a menu. I don't particularly care for liver but I have to admit that it was delicious!! I'm thinking that maybe I just haven't had it prepared properly and maybe I really do like liver after all? I ordered a chicken dish I think it was Chicken St. Ginsburg? It was absolutely delicious and the smashed potatoes and veg also very yummy!! The appetizer I chose was a mushroom risotto that was excellent! A very large portion that I took half home to enjoy for lunch the next day. The included salad I had packed up to take home so I would save room for my main meal. The portions are very generous and I was absolutely stuffed with half of my entree packed up and brought home. There's always room saved up for coffee and the included dessert. The price fixe menu is a terrific value and the choices are plenty. The food is excellent and the cocktails were very good. The service here is very attentive and friendly without being in your face. We loved this place so much that we brought a friend for a thank you outing not long after we first found this gem of a place. We're so happy to have stumbled in and accidentally found this place.
