Bought my first whole set up for a skateboard today. Since I'm new to this, I was pretty anxious about not being very knowledgeable but was quickly relieved to find that the staff here are super friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient!!! I was very impressed and am eager to stop again soon!!

After a real quiet soft opening, Silo is a nice little shop. It is very clean, too. There will always be kids and some adults even, that are into action sports. This is a great spot to get some classic Vans shoes or even just walk by and see some little skate punks putting fresh wheels or griptape on their boards. It brings me back to a time in California where we had little skate shops every few blocks. This one is nestled right next to 13th St. Coffee and is welcome to the Old Market. The employees are nice and if you find the need to get in here, don't hesitate! You might be able to call them, but as of now there is no phone. I like that idea. It makes you have to show up to the shop. When you get there you might be able to jam out to some Rock on the Tivoli. Socks, watches, shorts, etc.. that you need to fulfill your skater image and some cool boards on the wall. It feels very much like a boutique in the manner that they have a lot of stuff, but it does not feel crowded.

They had a good selection of boards to choose from, and my 4-year-old godson was able to test a couple out before he chose the one he wanted. They had a local designer showing a clothing line in the next room, which was a good way to showcase local talent! The pricing on the board was pretty great too, I expected it to cost almost double what it cost. They have complete boards for sale, which is what my godson got, but also boards you can customize. They have merch, clothes and shoes, stickers, all the things. They gave him a skate shop sticker to go on his board, which was a big hit with him!

Always encouraging to see the Midwest skate community growing and central is a great spot that fosters that. My husband was going in looking for a new board and they had plenty (for a great price too ) Boards, trucks, wheels, apparel, shoes -- you name it they have it. The guys were super helpful and friendly and my husband ended up skating around with them outside for a little bit after. This is a great shop that will have all you need and take good care of you, support local!

I honestly expected the prices to be higher since it is a specialized brick and mortar store, especially compared to bigger retailers like Scheels. Surprisingly, the prices were very comparable and right in line with the market. What really made the experience stand out was Chad. He took the time to work with my son and help him find the right pair of skates, even though we were not planning on buying skates when we walked in. My son did the foot analysis and Chad helped guide us through the options to find what truly fit him best. Were the skates expensive? Yes, but hockey gear always is. The important thing to me was that Chad did not charge us any more than what you would expect anywhere else. The pricing was fair and consistent with the market, which I really appreciated. Chad was fantastic. He took the time to explain the skates, the fitting process, and why certain models would work better than others. It never felt like a sales pitch. It felt like he genuinely wanted to make sure my son had the right equipment. I cannot say enough good things about the experience. Pure Hockey is a no brainer. Five stars out of five stars. If you are into hockey, this absolutely should be your go to shop.

I wish this store was a bit bigger, but it is probably reasonable given our market size. Staff is friendly when I've had questions as well. Selection is great and if you cannot find what you need, you can order online as well. They sell name branded equipment, so you are getting quality equipment for the price you pay.

2 Stars - Scheels is great overall, but not for hockey…read more Scheels is a great store for a lot of sporting goods, but if you're looking for hockey equipment, I would honestly recommend going somewhere else. My son recently started getting into hockey, and we went there hoping to get some help with skates and gear. Unfortunately, it was clear pretty quickly that the hockey department just doesn't have staff with much hockey knowledge. Whether it was skates, sticks, or general equipment questions, there really wasn't anyone who seemed confident or experienced enough to help. The most frustrating experience was when we purchased skates and were told they had been sharpened by the Scheels staff. After my son had a very negative experience on the ice, we took the skates to a rink, and the staff there confirmed the blades had not actually been sharpened. That kind of thing makes a big difference, especially when someone is just starting the sport. If you're serious about hockey equipment, save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that specializes in it. Prices are very competitive elsewhere, and the staff actually care and know what they're doing. Pure Hockey on 72nd is absolutely worth the trip. Scheels does a lot of things well, but hockey just doesn't seem to be one of them.
