This is a really nice place to visit I'm very lucky I live 10 miles from Silver Beach and it's a really good beach. They did raise their seasonal pass but I guess they have a lot of expenses but it is still a good value I I also like to go there in the winter time to you should check it out in the winter time when the lake is frozen over it is really really nice read more

My family and I had heard about this park via a family friend and decided to make a weekend trip out of it one weekend in August. As a Hawaiian family living in Indiana, we all are pretty skeptical when it comes to "beaches" in the Midwest. Of course nothing can compare to the beaches back home in Hawaii. So imagine my surprise when we arrived and I saw WHITE SAND, CLEAR WATER, and SUNSHINE! The drive wasn't too bad; about a three hour drive straight shot (we're coming from Indianapolis) . Parking was a bit pricey for non-residents and crowded. However, I was pleasantly surprised that this park was nothing like the beaches that we've been to in Indiana. The sand was white, the water was clear enough to see my feet, and the weather was absolutely perfect. There was a playground and volleyball net set up, and a concession stand. The beach looked like it had been combed as well and there were many trashcans set up so there was hardly any trash on the beach itself. There was plenty of space to set up our chairs and towels; we didn't feel like it was overly crowded. My one complaint however is about the bathrooms. They were disgusting and not very well kept up. I'm not sure if this is due to the high traffic. Also, dogs are not allowed on the beach but about a mile or so down the road is Lion's park that accepts dogs. Overall, Silver beach was a great weekend getaway and one that I will eventually take my own family to. read more

Beautiful, spacious, activities galore! There are so many different things you can do at this park. There are trails to the lighthouse, rides for the kids, a playground on the beach, a waterpark spray area, the beach, volleyball on the beach, fishing, boating, and a delicious pizza joint. There is definitely something for everyone at this park and is a must see if you're traveling through St. Joseph, Michigan. There are also tons of great photo ops for the photography lovers out there. read more

What a lovely area in St. Joe! They are so lucky to have this wonderful open beach area. There is parking if you need/want to park close. You'll have to pay for it. They get through the parking line quickly. It is a massive sandy beach area. Public bathrooms. Sidewalks to help make traveling from one end of beach to the other. They even have a seasonal refreshment stand. If you aren't a beach person or have a don't, you can hang back off the beach area by the sidewalks, under the shady trees, etc. Dogs are not aloud on the beach. Right near by there is even a yummy pizza place to can walk to to fill your belly after being in the sun. If you're in the area, this is a lovely place to stop. read more

The beach is very clean, and beautiful. We sat on a bench and listened to the sound of the water and relaxed for a little while before dinner. The thing that really bothered us was the giant mass of seagulls. Was it us? Do people Then, a man drove up in a truck and began dumping GIGANTIC bags of bread crumbs and bits all over the ground on the parking lot like 6 feet behind us. So I guess that explains the seagull if anyone was curious. read more

The beach is way too crowded to enjoy during the summer months. Completely swelled with tourists. Kids enjoy the carousel and the splash pad. The sculpture walk and walk to the lighthouse is always nice. Once the splash pad is turned off you can skate over the pad. Like all beaches in MI, you'll enjoy great sunsets. The beach was beautiful, clean and a nice size . There are two very large playgrounds , one for younger children and one for a little bit older as well as four swings for older kids . I went on a weekday in the off-season so some things were closed but it looked like there was a big concession stand , a large water play area for kids and a beautiful carousel close by as well. read more

Beautiful beach - great sand volleyball. Lifeguards in peak season. Walking distance to restaurants, hotels, and shopping.

Great beach for families. Very well maintained with calm, shallow water that stretches far out into the lake. There are multiple lifeguards on duty and everyone was very courteous unlike some of the other beach parks. Our small children had a blast and there are a lot of kid-oriented activities nearby including a huge splash pad and a carousel. read more

Best beach in the area! They have plenty of lifeguard towers for safety. If it is a hot day I suggest getting there early in the morning as the beach fills up pretty fast. They have many volleyball nets pre-setup. Large buildings that had bathrooms and some eating place. We brought our own lunch so did not try any food. There were plenty of canopy picnic areas to eat our lunch. The beach was super clean. The pier was a nice stroll to look out on the water. read more

Lots of activities for children and families. Beach is nice but can be crowded. Parking was frustrating, but affordable and worth the wait. The downside was the facilities including the changing area and restrooms. It was super busy during our visit so I will give this time a pass. Enjoyed it as a day trip. read more

I live in Chicago, so I've I've been to the beach on Lake Michigan. Boy, are we missing out. This weekend my family and I spent a lot of time at this beach. From being down by the water, to the play sets to the giant fountain, to the pier. All over it. I was very happy with the cleanliness of the sand and the water. Also, the beach is just the right size, and with the 8 dollar non-resident parking, it keeps out the annoying "I-only-go-to-free-beaches" riffraff. Very family friendly. It was 95 degrees this weekend and water, food and bathrooms very very accessible. Getting there was also easy, and I was able to get directions to the local bait shop as well for fishing. I will be coming back with my family and will recommend it to my friends. read more

What better way to spend a summer day than lounging a the beach at Lake Michigan? Silver Beach Has a splash pad for the kids, a pier for walking or fishing. The beach is sandy and slopes gently out making it perfect for throwing a football or frisbee. If you walk about 1/2 a mile there is plenty of free parking close to town. Don't forget to check out the cute shops and restaurants. Note check the water temp before coming if you are interested in getting in. On Tuesday this week there was a strong wind from the south and the water temp was near 80 degrees F. On Thursday we had some rain, a front came through and pushed the warm water off shore and much colder water from deep in Lake Michigan came to the shore. The water Temp on Thursday was 55 degrees F. There were several blue lipped children braving the icy waters but the majority of beach goers were crafting sand creations, and bathing in the sun not the chilly water. Overal great beach. Bathrooms were cleanish, not gross, but not spotless. read more

Ok, from an East Tennessean living in Northern KY/Cincinnati area, I have to say I was impressed! We scouted out the parking/situation on Friday before descending on a Saturday in late August. Chose to pay for parking so that we didn't have far to carry the "beach stuff" and so we could trek back to the car easily if needed. It didn't hurt that the weather was perfect (cloudless day/85 degrees) and that we got there before most beach-goers and selected our spot near the sand volleyball courts. We walked both directions on the beach and enjoyed the sculptures. Didn't eat at the little stands since we had packed our snacks and beverages. Would enjoy coming back here for a longer trip. Apparently the carousel and fountain/water spray area built by Whirlpool are new. Very nice! read more

Large beach. Lots of sand, and it's nice sand. Life guards on duty and a swimming area is clearly marked. There are bathrooms, concession stands, and a playground for the kids. NO alcohol allowed!! The thing that plagues this beach (and all of St. Joe, MI) no recycling. If it existed it wasn't obvious. Plus, on a busy day there are hoards of people. read more

I have never been to silver beach before this year and I'll probably never go to south haven again. This beach is perfect. No rocks, soft sand. Parking is super convenient and close by which makes a day trip to the beach less stressful. Not to mention silver beach pizza is a short walk away. YUM! read more

Loooove this beach! I'm from chicago and the beaches there are unkept, dirty and busy compared to Silver Beach. The beach was (for the most part) not polluted and very large. It has convenient parking ($8 all day) and restaurants/the city close by if you want to grab something to eat. The water was a good depth for taking a dip. Boats are also docked close to shore so peple can go in and out of their boats. Drinking is not allowed but I saw a few people throwing some back. haha, if you do it be cautious you don't get caught. read more

it was about a 2 hr drive from my place but it was worth it. Some friends invited us to join and we were able to join last minute. Very scenic with a pier and lighthouse in the background, a small quaint town you can browse thru local shops and eateries and a nicely maintained beach. It was clean of human waste but if they could keep it clean of the natural debris it would make it even better. Get there early to get a spot otherwise it gets packed. Very inexpensive at $8 per car to get in if your not a local. Water was clean but a little murky towards the middle of the day with more people splashing around and letting the debris in the sand loose. It was supposed to rain but it turned out to be a beautiful day so it couldn't have been a better choice to lounge around in a nice beach. Definitely worth it to go! read more

I'd love to be able to rate this beach and park, but I can't because after driving around and around for over an hour, on a Saturday, we were never even able to leave our car due to NO PARKING ANYWHERE! Seriously, you must have arrive at the crack of dawn because there is just not nearly enough available parking. We even tried Tisconia and Rocky Gap parks and still NO PARKING! I felt like I was trying to park for a Michigan home game. Do yourself a favor and do what we did. Head 8 miles west on 94 and go to Warren Dunes State Park. Plenty of parking for the price of a $16 state resident annual park pass. read more

Beautiful beach! Very spacious - it was very busy on a hot summer Saturday but it never felt crowded. It's a very clean beach and they have recycling bins next to all of the trash cans which made me very happy! (and people were actually using them!!) They have LOTS of volleyball nets, next time I will bring a ball. The water is shallow in the swim area, with a nice sand bar! They even have lifeguards on duty. There's a pier to walk on and snack bar and restrooms on site near a playground. It's just a short walk from the beach to the splash pad area and the carousel. We waited in a long line for the parking lot only to get up to the front and it was full - could have used more signs on where to park or better traffic control to keep the line moving so we didn't waste so much time. read more

Great hidden park, I got to it early before the crowds. I liked it so much I fell asleep listing to the water and birds woke up and it was packed , Yes it was creepy for me and them lol. I have no clue why boaters anchor so close and everyone swims but it must be a local thing. The water was chilly to me but the locals were enjoying it. This place is a nice area to check out. Kinda hard to find if your not local but worth the time as its out o the way. read more

Some of the beaches I've visited in the past were jam packed with waaaaaay to many people and there was no place to find a spot and sit with out being right next to someone tripping on your towel when they got up, but silver beach is more spread out. There's still people around but everyone has enough space to maneuver around when they get up which is nice. They also have some restaurants nearby that are in walking distance in case you didn't bring any snacks to eat on the beach. The view is very nice with the board walk and the light house. They also have a life guard which is reassuring and a water play area for families. Now parking isn't cheap and it can be hard to find a parking space depending on how busy the beach gets, but the parking pass is good for serval hours which is nice. This is a nice beach to go to. The walk to the water isn't long, it's not too hard to walk on the sand to get to your destination and..... it has restaurants nearby with is great. This is a nice place to visit. read more

This past summer we visited a few times. Honestly we mainly came to this beach versus South Haven because my kids love the fountain nearby. If not for that we'd stick with SH. You have to get there early as this beach gets packed and I mean packed, even on a random Tuesday. We would usually arrive about 9am and by noon it's crazy busy. That's when we depart for the fountain. Note: parking is cash only! Positives: near fountain, clean restrooms, nearby snack stand, close parking. Cons: super busy, garbage on beach and in water on our visits :( read more

What a wonderful place to spend the day! You can lay on the beach and soak up the sun while you read your favorite book, or you can walk along the paths and out on the peer as you take in the beauty of the water, the long grasses gently moving with the breeze and the light house as it stands out at the end of the peer keeping an eye out for danger. I have visited this beach several times this year. Most recently with my wife and children. We had a great time and spent the whole afternoon at the water. Within waking distance right on the beach, there is Silver Beach Pizza. We went there for dinner. While we waited an hour and a half for a table, we chilled out at the water fountain park right next to the beach and restaurant. After dinner, we walked down the pier and enjoyed the sunset. My favorite beach in MI! I miss it since moving to Vegas! Not always the cleanest and sometimes very busy/touristy but can't beat the views of the water that stretches on as far as the eye can see. I grew up going here in the summers. Go to Lions Park beach nearby if you're interested in less bustle and pavilions/places to bbq. Great place for a walk, great place for photo shoots, watching the sunsets, ice cream and relaxing. The Krasl Art Fair is also fun to visit on the bluff every year. Love this lake. read more

It was nice soft sand with a beautiful beach. Just enjoyed a very busy holiday weekend here. Make a stop in Kilwins for ice cream, it's worth any wait. A great area if you are traveling as a couple or with children. Lots of things to do with the kids. We were without so we had drinks at a hotel on the water and at the upstairs bar at Silver beach Pizza. There was a nice view of the beach there. This is a big beach and there is plenty to be done here. There is a carousal, crazy water spraying that kids go absolutely bonkers for. Close by you can get a slice of the best pizza in town, Silver Beach Pizza. Walk the pier, go see the lighthouse, check out boats speeding by, and be safe! The only negative at this beach is how crowded it is. I don't like being in close quarters to many people I've known for yesterday, but not a chance in hell that I wanna be that close to the dude wearing a speedo, on buttcheek touching my towel. Time to burn that towel. Keep em' off your towel, especially dudes with speedos on, and youll have a pretty awesome day doing everthing else this place has to offer. read more
