The Korean bbq was fun. Very nice set up, although the table areas are a bit small. The meats are cut so that it is easy and quick to cook up/ the Korean sides were good, especially the cucumber and kimchi. Nice serving of rice with the meal as well. The beef was a bit over marinated for me and you lost the true beef flavor. The ribs were well seasoned with a nice balance of flavor. To top off a nice meal is the bubble tea. Truly a great way to end a nice meal, it took a while to prepare and serve, but it did not disappoint. Some of the best I have tried in the area. Great balance of flavor and didn't skimp on the bubbles. The servers there are knowledgeable and seem to genuinely enjoy their job. We've been pretty regular customers at Sima starting when our daughter was a preschooler. We were not surprised when she asked to have her high school graduation party hosted at Sima in their private room. The entire Sima crew did not disappoint. Hot food, sushi, salad, soup, all were on point and always stocked. We had the room packed with people and never had to worry about the food or drinks. Christie, Dana, Mrs. Kim and everyone else, forgive me, who works there that I don't know their name treated us and our guests like first class passengers. Our daughter had an unforgettable party, we had no food to prep and cook or clean up to perform, and all our guests left happy and full. Thank you to everyone at Sima. Imagine if you lived in a country with no Italian food options and I opened an Italian Ristorante in your town, repackaging Chef Boyardee and up charging you 18 dollars. THAT IS WHAT SIMA IS DOING! BANKING ON NAIVE AMERICANS who don't know any better about Korean cuisine. I came here with my wife with high hopes and left very disappointed. The squid with mixed vegetables was less than 50% protein. When an entree is a named, the ingredient that is named first should be higher proportionally. In this case it should've been named vegetables that happened to have squid. But real disaster struck when I got my noodles and only to look at my bowl and saw that they flipped instant ramen and I was about to pay 18 dollars for it. In short: I cannot recommend to patronize a place that has a business model that relies on predatory practices of taking advantage of people who have not had real Korean cuisine. Please do not reward the owners for this behavior and find somewhere else to go. My husband was wanting noodles for dinner. We went to three different establishments and none were doing dine in. As we were looking around, we passed Sima, which I had bookmarked in Yelp. Thursday was noodle night so it was perfect for what my husband wanted. They have ramen and other types of noodle soups for $10. We started with the special appetizer of Takoyaki which is balls of octopus with a yummy sauce. For dinner, I had the beef bulgogi which comes with five Korean sides (kimchi, cucumber kimchi, curry potatoes, pickled seaweed and soy marinated radishes/cabbage). All the sides allow you to order extra. It was great. Our server was wonderful. We asked for recommendations and she spent time going over the menu and what she liked. We will definitely be back. They have specials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as bbq tables. read more

3 stars = OK, not horrible, but I wouldn't come back. Sima is a typical Asian fusion restaurant in Dayton. The exterior of the building looks kind of old fashioned and drab. The inside has these big booths on one side across from a bar. On one day a week, Thursday, they have Ramen, and my friend and I decided to go try it. I got the tonkotsu ramen. Before that, we both got appetizer salads. This was nice because I didn't anticipate it coming. But it did take a long time for the ramen to come out. Like 35 minutes or so. When it did come out, it came in a strange blue bowl that reminded me a lot of a cereal bowl. The portion size was on the smaller side. The meat that it came with was called "sliced pork" which was for me a warning sign. The slice of pork was just that - a single solitary slice of pork probably 2-3 mm in thickness. And that's all you got. I've never gotten served such little pork in my life in a bowl of ramen. However, the bowl did cost only $10, which might explain the portions. The broth was decent. The noodles were not great though. They felt a little soggy, like they were sitting in liquid for a very long time. They kind of felt like they had a starchy coating - the kind that you get exactly from having noodles in water for too long. But the taste was OK - there was an eggy taste from the noodles. Toppings: They were OK. The ginger was taken right from the sushi ginger which was kind of a letdown. My friend got the korean ramen and he really did not like it. On the side I got the taro milk tea. The waiter did tell me that this tea is going to be like a milkshake. I said OK, and it did come out very thick. This was not a typical milk tea but I can't say I wasn't warned. It came with a huge amount of whipped cream on top which I was a bit turned off by, because I've never seen whipped cream on milk tea. Maybe froth or liquid cream, but not whipped. Overall, it was OK, but I wouldn't order ramen from here again, and probably won't back. read more

Fantastic experience, we have never had Korean bbq before. Our hostess, Angella, walked us through the whole process. She even gave us some history of Sima, which is owned by local Korean American family, who works there every day. Sima makes their own kimchi, which I love, it wasn't as pungent fermented as some jar kimchi I've had before. Food was fantastic, we got a combo of chicken, sirloin, and short ribs for our bbq. Make sure you get the bean paste and gochujang, so you can mix them with some soy sauce to make a dipping sauce. We also got the combination appetizer, tempura is light and crispy, exactly the way it should be. Next time we will not cook all the meat at once, it will be more fun and relaxing to cook a little then build a lettuce wrap with meat, sauce, side and rice. Stopped in for a dinner date and the food was pretty good. I do think they prefer when people make reservations online so keep that in mind. The fire mountain roll was very tasty and I would definitely get it again. The spicy salmon roll was okay but I feel like it had just a little too much sauce that you couldn't taste the salmon, at least for my preference. I will say there was a bit of a wait and service seemed slow but that was because there was only one person bussing tables and she was doing her best so absolutely no slander on her. Not sure why/how it happened, but I've been on a Korean food "frenzy" for MONTHS now, both here in Ohioooooooo and in my home turf of NY. In my quest to find the "best" Korean food in the Dayton/Springfield area, I've focused mainly on the surprisingly diverse corridor of Fairborn, near WPAFB, but have begun to venture past "little Korea" and found this WONDERFUL choice on the almost equally "ethnic" Woodman corridor. AWESOME sushi/Japanese options, but two out of three of us went for the Korean side of the menu, and we were ALL glad we did!! We shared the Korean veggie pancake and gyoza dumplings, then had entrees and ban shan to get ourselves COMPLETELY full. My one friend loved her beef bulgogi, the other friend enjoyed her tempura veggies (huge portion!!) and my "usual" dolsot bibimbop was great as well. Wonderful service, reasonable prices, and a TEMPTING menu that is just BEGGING me to come back and try everything at least once (maybe twice!!) Not sure if their Korean BBQ tables are still an option (they were looking pretty abandoned the night we were there) but hopefully they will be next time I'm back!! ENJOY!! read more

This review is for the normal guy, the little guy. Someone who's looking for a well-priced filling meal of reasonable quality. Let's just say that this is not the place. Ordering, a 16 dollar bowl of shrimp udon gets you a SINGLE tempura shrimp. Now there's no way this miniscule portion is worth 16 dollars. The broth must be made of the tears of God and the noodles his skin because there is nothing else in the bowl. Sushi is alright. You can get more bang for your buck with Kroger sushi, but Sima's sushi isn't gonna kill you. Expensive but it's in the Midwest so what do you expect. Portions are incredibly small. Even a restaurant on the verge of closing will give you more. COVID is no excuse. I know Sima can do better because I've been to restaurants during COVID that did more. There are many pictures for this place but my portions were no where as extensive as they seemed. Perhaps I ordered the worst things on the menu. The food would be justified if it was incredibly tasty. But Sima's food is average to good. I really can't tell the difference between their food and the cheaper alternatives. Kimchi was sour as hell. Goddamn. I've never puckered so hard. It probably was very old by the time it was served. Came with an 18 dollar dish. 18 dollar bibimbap comes with a garnish of bulgogi? Now I know restaurants will use USDA prime beef to justify this or something in that realm, but between you and me, it tastes the same whether it's good beef or cheap beef. That's because it is so diced. And especially here since it's a garnish. The cost of all dishes are expensive. It was a red flag when miso soup was $3 for a small bowl and $6 for a large bowl. Considering that authentic Japanese restaurants will often give miso soup for free with your meal, their miso must be made out of Christ's healing powers. You know, just reading the words $3 next to miso soup may have healed my back pain. The vibe is great. The service is great. Food came quick. The restaurant is clean. The food is made with good ingredients. Great place for a date night probably. The rice was fresh and of good quality at least However there must be a balance between ingredients and price. We happened to drive by this place one day and their huge sign advertising a sushi lunch buffet totally caught my eye. While their rating and reviews aren't as great as others, their pictures looked solid enough to make it worth a try. I put it at the top of my to-do list, but some how hubby made it here first. He came with a buddy on a dad's night out and came home raving about the place. So the very next week, he took me and kiddo there for dinner to meet friends. I promptly ordered gyoza for the table to share while I tried to figure out what sushi to get. Lucky, our waitress was awesome, friendly and full of helpful suggestions. I think the six of us (four adults and two kiddos) shared one appetizer, one order of bulgogi, and five rolls of sushi. And that was the perfect amount. We finished everything and were absolutely stuffed. I always prefer tempura rolls. So the kamikaze roll was my favorite. Hubby really loved the baked rolls (some of which are baked/lit on fire at your table). This isn't the end of my story. Because about a week or two later we returned AGAIN. This time, for that lunch buffet. It's Monday through Friday 11:30a-2p for $16.99. The buffet includes a soup, a salad/cold side dish station, a table of warm Korean dishes and one double sided buffet of sushi. Apparently the menu of the buffet rotates depending on what the chef wants to put out. I was excited to learn they had the kamikaze roll out the day (one of the two tempura rolls out). They also had their I Don't Know Roll. This roll is filled with chef's current choice, sliced and individually tempura fried. So good! I would definitely return for it!! As for the hot Korean dishes, I found their angel hair noodles to be so very flavorful! And their tempura mushrooms were spicy, but I couldn't stop myself from eating them. Next time, we plan to visit for their Wednesday evening half price sushi. It starts at 4:30p and I'm told that it can get crowded and have long waits. But their sushi is so good that I know it'll be worth it! I will also mention that on both visits our servers were above and beyond friendly and awesome. This has been the best restaurant experience I've had for years. I wasn't sure what to expect when I drove into the parking lot. The restaurant is not exactly anywhere I would expect it to be. There was a DIY car wash behind it that I could see from the parking lot. As I entered, I saw many Korean language flyers posted on the walls. That gave me a clue that they probably have good Korean food, plus the fact that the suggestion to eat at this place came from the owner of Pleasing Market. After all the mis-steps and fake Asian places, I never know what to expect. As I entered, I was met with friendly, lively people. Tell me that isn't a 180 degree difference from Jeet India. The person seating me asked my opinion of where I'd like to sit and I ended up toward the front, in view of the o-sushi bar. I was surprised to see a small library sitting on the table with a pencil. O-sushi, sashimi, and dinner menu--that seems a lot, like a small library. My first impression of the menus was that prices were high. The sashimi sampler was $12.95. It's probably a very reasonable price, but I wasn't ready. I ordered iced tea and soon dubu jjigae, which surprises the waiters and waitresses usually. The iced tea was cold and it wasn't sweetened. Yay! It didn't seem busy but the food took a while. When it arrived, I was surprised to see a small pot, 4 side dishes, plus rice, of course. Most places, I get a big pot and 6 side dishes, so it made me wonder. We had a little conversation about picking up the rice bowl and how it was bad manners in Korean restaurants (and homes), and how my friends would give me "the look" when I would pick it up to eat Japanese style. So, I started eating and more than that, I started smiling for the first time in months. It was good! This wasn't just some Yijo pouch that they opened and heated. The tofu makes a lot of difference (Yijo uses firmer tofu) but this had a lot more seafood than you'll ever see in a pouch, or most restaurants. The last restaurant to make this dish for me added 1 or 2 shrimp, along with the spices, tofu, and maybe a bit of scallion, but forgot the taste. This jjigae had taste! Oh emm gee, that's better than big food. The wait staff was attentive and got me tea 3 times, but didn't interrupt me while I was eating heartily. They were probably stunned to see someone enjoy it so much. It felt like being able to move after being paralysed, and I know how that feels. So, it was 75 % good food and 25 % good people, and that equals 100 % satisfaction, something rare for me. read more

I'm a fan of Sima! The food here is pretty good. There is a good selection of ban chan that's served. (Five different things). Their galbi tang soup was delicious. Also, I'm happy that they serve pork soon du bu here. They don't serve pork soon dubu at Myong's in Fairborn. It's seafood only there. The soon tofu soup was delicious. Although the pork they used in the soup wasn't pork belly. It was pork chop meat pieces lol. I'm not complaining though. Actually I have one complaint, this isn't served with a raw egg that you break into the soup while it's boiling hot. But, I would come back! read more

Just based on "Noodle Night" which is the only time we've tried this restaurant. We ordered ramen and udon soup bowls. Both were not good. The flavors were all wrong and the quality of ingredients was marginal. There are many much better options for noodles. Just two examples: of you want ramen, Hoshi Ramen is FAR superior to this (I gave them 3 stars, so maybe I'm over rating this place with two) and Sky has much better udon. read more

I'd really like to give this place a 4.5 star. We had the Galbi (grilled short ribs) and a few sushi rolls. The Galbi was very well flavored and great price:quantity:quality ratio. I highly recommend! The sushi rolls were great, the one that stood out the most was the kamikaze, although the other two rolls were good too. If you like green tea, I recommend trying theirs here, it's a bit pricey but it's worth it. The one thing that they could improve on is their banchan (Korean side dishes) as they were pretty sad! The service was fast and hospitable. I highly recommend to check out their daily specials. Come here on Wednesday for half off sushi!!! We finally found a Korean restaurant that does actual Korean BBQ. I mean the one you cook right in front of you. I drove past this place and saw the sign. I told my husband about it and came two days later. The restaurant is nice and the service is awesome. We did the Korean BBQ and choose combo #2. It came with Beef bulgogi, pork bulgogi and chicken bulgogi. I personally think the portion size was good. I wish they had more meat options but that's just my spoiled self. I'm used to how they do it in California where they have a whole list of meat. Oh man do I miss those thin brisket and beef tongue slices. Although it wasn't like that, their options were good. We also got some Korean side dishes as well. I wish it was a bit more too. By the end of our meal, we were stuffed. We got a taro milk tea with almond milk & tapioca bubbles as well as a honeydew milk tea with almond milk & tapioca bubbles to go. $54 for the combo $10 for the milk teas $4.64 for tax $68.64 plus tip. Reviewing my doordash history, 10 deliveries in the past 30 days - average bill $58 for ONE person. Tonight, 2nd dine in experience in 30 days - tonight was $68 for ONE person.
