First things first it's too expensive, 3 people X (1 coffee + 1 dessert) = 90 lira. The coffee,…read morethanks to being Meinl, is wonderful, the interior, location, atmosphere, likewise. Desserts are meh. HOWEVER the staff I think collectively suffer from what one might call the "french exchange student syndrome", whereas when somebody goes to France for a semester, they adopt the french attitute to life. Meaning that they gracefully "allow" you to sit at their cafe and have the higest honour imaginable of tasting their coffee. They aren't necessarily rude, they're simply indifferent, in modern terms, they can't even. So yes, if you want to be treated like a Syrian refugee by all means, Karabatak is the perfect place. However, 3rd wave cafés popping up like Kanye at an awards show, hopefully Blackswamps iron rule (I mean the name is a dead giveaway) might come to an end soon. Who allowed me to plug my dying phone into the bar. I wish I could remember her name. We split a vegetarian pizza and it was so good. Maybe because we were in Turkiye and the mood was light but everything was perfect. The drinks were amazing. The service was great if I ever visit Turkiye again I would definitely come back.

Disappointing second visit…read more This was our second visit to the restaurant while staying in Istanbul, and unfortunately it was quite disappointing. The food was okay, but it wasn't particularly hot when it arrived. What really left a bad impression, however, was the difference in how we were treated compared with another couple. While we were there, we noticed an older couple being given complimentary nuts and Turkish tea when they received their bill. When our bill arrived, we received neither. We politely mentioned this to the manager, simply asking why there appeared to be a difference in treatment. Unfortunately, rather than explaining the situation or acknowledging our concern, the manager became quite rude towards us. When we received our bill, the manager was also asking for a tip (which is forbidden in Turkey by law since January 2026) as service was not included. I would normally leave a minimum of 10% tip wherever we eat, and have no problem doing so when the service is good. On this occasion, however, I chose not to leave a tip because of the way we had been treated and the way our concern was handled. We have no issue paying for what we order, and we certainly don't expect complimentary items. But when you see other customers receiving something extra and then receive a different level of treatment yourself, it is reasonable to ask about it. The manager's response was the biggest disappointment. One rule for one couple and a different for others. Not ok. Sadly, after two visits, this experience means we would not return.

Only come here if the sesame bagels have just come out of the oven. I missed that and got a really…read moredry and dense bagel. There's two cheeses to choose from and they're both not refrigerated. One tastes like laughing cow cheese and in wedges, the other is like the laughing cow cheese but says cream cheese. They taste both almost the same and don't require refrigeration.
