My first time having inside cuisine and I was not disappointed. This place is a hidden gem. The beautiful interior decor was cozy and inviting, with mellow music to set the vibe. I got the Street Food Adventure, an impressive 8 course meal that includes roti bread, salad, mie tek tek noodles, fried rice, chicken skewers, fried chicken, garlic chips, and black rice pudding for dessert. Food was incredibly flavorful, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. Savory. Delicious. Tantalizing. Can't recommend this enough! Oh, and Service was fast and friendly.

had this placed saved for a while but was disappointed by the flavor ): Indonesian flavors are robust and bold- not what I got in my dishes last night. beef rendang 26$: 6.2/10: enjoyed the coconut notes but the dish was small, beef was not tender, and plate didn't come out hot. comes with two small flatbreads char kway teow 20$: 7.5/10 lovely savory noodle wok flavors but again, small portion for the price and didn't come out hot, just warm. service was nothing to complain about, but the food seems to be catered to the palates of the city's demographics. for more authentic indonesian food, try long beach or thai town!

This is my favorite Indonesian spot in LA! You definitely have to visit. They have really cute interior! And the food selection is unreal! I usually come here for takeout, but when I have time, I will love to dine in and they do have a tasting for two which is such a great deal cause you get to try a little bit of all of their favorite and popular dishes! The service here is so amazing. I absolutely love the staff here they treat you like family! There's parking in the small lot in front of their restaurant and I highly recommend if you are wanting to try something new in the area!

Stopped by for a snack after an event. First time having the fried chicken... I'm Filipino, so the light crispy-ness of the chicken is very familiar to me. And this slapped! Last time I was at this location, the restaurant was smaller so I was delighted to see the decor level up. This location and the Palms location tie for best Indonesian/Southeast cuisine in LA in my opinion for the value. If you come here, try something with a bit of spice ;)

If you're in Venice and want something different, you must try this Simpang Venice that offers Southeast Asian flavors. I love everything here from the decor to the food, everything is excellent. Excellent flavor, variety, service, and atmosphere. Here's what I ordered: Gah Kangkung $15.50 Branzino $22.95 Coconut Rice $3.50 Martabak Manis $5.95 The rice, fish and vegetables complimented each other. All the flavors exploded in my mouth so I truly enjoyed my meal. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes in the menu.

Mango sticky rice, you will always be famous to me.... Seriously some of the best food we ate while visiting LA. This unassuming, strip-mall spot is incredible. We weren't super hungry so we went on a tour of the appetizer and dessert sections. I'd never had anything like the roti paratha before. It's a salty, flaky, pastry, croissant-like bread with a curry dipping sauce. It was buttery, light, flavorful, just amazing. The lumpia and wontons were also amazing. Everything hit the mark. I'm a sucker for mango sticky rice... and this was some of the best I've ever had. Lordy lord I could eat that every day for the rest of my life. Sweet, heavy rice with a kinda crispy outer shell. Mmmmmm. They did a great job decorating the inside. It all feels modern and cozy.

Good spot. Located on Lincoln in a busy area, sitting near the window is great people watching. The inside seats a decent amount of diners. The bustling flavors of the foods mix well and settles nicely on the palate. I enjoyed Strawberry Soju with Sambal Wonton to start with Wok-Charred Basil Fried Rice which was delicious. The Beef Shoulder Smoor was tender and flavorful, especially paired with the onions. For dessert, Indonesian Black Rice Pudding added a not too sweet touch to the delicious meal.

Cute Indonesian spot with another location in Palms. My boyfriend loves the roti paratha and the mie tek tek, and he always get it when we come. There is a small parking lot as well as street parking. The Thai tea comes with garnishings and they do have cocktails/alcohol. You can make reservations in advance but we walked in on a weeknight and there was no wait if you go later in the evening. Portions are generous and I had leftovers for lunch the following day. Credit cards accepted and they'll bring the reader out to you.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night at 7:30PM and got seated immediately. The ambiance was very nice and chill, and the lighting was dim and sultry. We ordered the roti paratha and a yellowtail ceviche from the Chef Specials menu. The roti paratha was so good. The roti was buttery, crispy, flaky ~ and the coconut curry dipping sauce was super rich and flavorful. The ceviche was very refreshing, but I thought the fish quality could have been better. For our mains, we got the Beef Rendang and Mie Tek Tek. Both were delicious! The beef tasted like a soy and coconut braised beef, and paired well with the flatbread. The noodles were very flavorful with a savory and sweet profile, similar to the flavor of pad see ew. Overall great experience and the service was wonderful!

Simpang Venice is a gem. The Nasi Goreng Jagger was the star of the show--smoky, bold, and seriously crave-worthy. The Cah Kangkung was another standout: garlicky, fresh, and perfectly cooked with that wok-charred flavor that makes veggies anything but boring. The disappointing dish was Hainanese Chicken it was good but it lacked some flavor. I wanted it to have better tasting rice and for the sauce to have more punched. Service was on point--friendly and attentive without hovering--and the ambiance struck that sweet spot between cozy and lively. Bottom line: amazing food, great energy, and the kind of spot you'll keep coming back to. I know I will.

    Mie Tek Tek

Came in during brunch on the weekend and there was no wait! There were only 2-3 other parties dining in for a large restaurant space. The brunch menu options at Simpang Venice seemed enticing, as many of the dishes paid homage to their Indonesian roots, while incorporating elements of American breakfast foods. We ordered the Mie Tek Tek and Mie Laksa (coconut curry soup). The flavors of the Mie Tek Tek were flavorful and seasoned well. However, the Mie Laksa was bland and could have benefitted from some more salt. Service was relatively quick and attentive. The interior space had a cozy cafe vibe. There is a small parking lot immediately outside of the restaurant.

I love Indonesian food and this place hit the spot! Inside it was super clean and I loved the atmosphere. It was very comfy, yet colorful with a modern vibe. I started out with a Thai Milk Tea. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted amazing! I loved the cream on top. For my entree I ordered the Nasi Lemak. I loved the curry chicken! The chicken came out a little cold though and wish there was more curry that I could eat with my rice. The chicken itself was super tender though and the rice was fluffy and delicious. I loved the peanuts and my family liked the crunchy little fried fish. The sambal that it was served with seemed house made. it wasn't too spicy and it went well with the chicken and rice. The service here was great overall. Our waiter was super nice and service was quick. I would definitely come here again to try some other dishes.

Simpang (with two locations in LA) is a real solid place to get Indonesian food in town and this location particularly steps up in terms of ambiance. It is a casual yet elegant and nice restaurant where you'll find all sorts of dishes ranging from fried chicken to noodle dishes. Their cocktails are pretty tasty and unique as well with some Asian flavors. Staff is nice, even if it may at times feel a little understaffed. Plaza parking available.

The sea bass was beautifully prepared with layers of spice and aromatics, plus just enough heat to keep every bite interesting. The water spinach arrived sizzling at the table, adding to the experience and making the dish feel fresh from the wok. For noodles, my son ordered his usual favorite, the Mie Tek Tek, while my daughter chose the Mie Ayam, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Curry Puffs - 9.5/10 (GF rating 10/10) Delicious. You won't regret getting these. Pastry outside is amazing, inside is even better, tamarind makes it EVEN better. Just keeps getting better. Get them. Chicken Larb - 9/10 (GF rating 7.5/10) Very tasty. The sauce it's in is amazing and the flavor profile is just great. Highly recommend. Crispy Pork Belly Salad - 8/10 (GF rating 9/10) Also very good. The flavors all fit together extremely well. I'm not a fan of pork belly but this was done great. Main: Beef short rib - 10/10 (GF rating 10/10) Holy shit. We were so full at this point, it was unfortunate we couldn't finish this, because it was so good. Most tender beef I have ever had. I went at it with a fork, expecting to have a tiny bit of give, but it just fell off the bone, effortlessly. Easier than gliding through softened butter. I also normally don't like fatty pieces due to the texture/chewiness, and was worried I wouldn't like this dish as short rib is quite fatty. I absolutely LOVED the fat on this. It was impeccably rendered. Genuinely the best beef short rib I have ever had. The sauce and cilantro + peanuts it was paired with was a perfect flavor combination as well. Came with a delicious bread as well (naan-esque?) Dessert: Underwhelming, unfortunately. Got all 3. Thai Tea Pudding - 6/10 (GF rating 2/10) Pudding underneath was decent. Boba on top with the sauce was not. Boba not marinated in honey, just chewy bland boba! The custard itself was also not very reminiscent of Thai tea. Vanilla Soft Serve Sundae - 6/10 (GF rating- 5/10) Vanilla ice cream itself was very good. The salted caramel, not particularly, nor the Milo brownie on top of it, and the peanuts didn't pair well with it either. Very mid. Strawberry Basil Shaved Ice - 2/10 (GF rating 7.8/10) GF LOVED THIS. Of all the desserts here, she thought this was the best. I just didn't like this one a single bit. The shaved ice on top was fine but it was a very thin layer and was more about what was underneath (passionfruit pieces, tapioca-like balls, and coconut), which just wasn't it for me.

On this last visit, we had the chance to meet the owner and chef, and they, along with the entire staff, were incredibly kind and attentive. It was my first time dining at the bar counter, and the experience was just as lovely as ever. We ordered some of our go-to favorites, but also tried a few new dishes like the beef tartare, which was fantastic. The chef's special with green mussels and spicy coconut curry both looked amazing and tasted even better. We finished with a dessert that was light and perfectly balanced between tart and sweet. As always, an incredible experience--we'll definitely be back again soon.

Dija Mara is a trendy Indonesian restaurant in downtown Oceanside with a warm, well-designed…read moreinterior and friendly service. Nearly everything we tried was bursting with flavor, well-deserving of the Michelin Bib Gourmand designation the restaurant has earned the past five years. The food is served family style, and the cocktail menu is unique. Conveniently, there is also a good amount of street parking around the restaurant, even on bustling weekends. To start, I had the black rose, an agave wine cocktail with black sesame, rose orgeat, and egg white. I'm not sure the blend of flavors worked, but it was certainly unique. We also tried the gypsy king (their version of a spicy margarita) and the pandan, lime, and coconut mocktail, both of which were decent. For the small plates, we agreed that the charred eggplant and sea bream ceviche were stellar. The sambal shined with the eggplant, and the cassava chips paired perfectly with the makrut lime and coconut cream in the ceviche. The roti was just alright - nothing to write home about. The pork belly skewers were juicy and well-flavored, although we had finished all our small and large plates by the time the skewers came out (we had to ask about them - the waiters/kitchen likely forgot about our skewers, as multiple tables seated after us received theirs before we did). The ayam penyet, nasi goreng, and beef rendang were delicious and well thought-out dishes. We agreed that while the menu is heavily Indonesian-inspired and the food features the flavors of Southeast Asia, the dishes are quite Americanized. Dija Mara shines in presenting a typically uncommon cuisine in the U.S. in an easily accessible manner, which is laudable. Would recommend everyone try at least once.

I went there thinking I'm just going to buy 2 items max. Wrong! This place, unlike many places around the area takes credit cards. There goes all my money! Lol. I ended up with a basketful of food. I just couldn't help it. I ate them, not all, as soon as I got home and each one of them was delicious and authentic. I know this will be a stop for me whenever I visit LA. They're just that good.

They really keep the authenticity and quality at a high level. The food is amazing and every dish we have tried has been consistently good. It can get a little pricey if you order a bunch of dishes with a group but it is completely worth it for the quality you are getting. One nice bonus is their loyalty program. If you spend over 50 dollars they give you a stamp card and once you collect ten stamps you get around 20 dollars off or a free dish. Definitely a good incentive to keep coming back. If you are looking for authentic Indonesian food in the Rosemead area I honestly do not think there is a better option than Medan Kitchen. Highly recommend giving it a try.

This place feels like home because of how small it is. There are still several tables, indoor and outdoor, but usually only one hostess/server/busser that you see there. She's great:) Food is fresh, light and flavorful. My favorite is the bbq pork fried rice. Also, I like to the potstickers, served on the most interesting lightly sweet peanut sauce. Delightful. Decent Thai tea too! While sitting to enjoy my rare lunch away from work, I noticed a lot of takeout customers flowing through. At the risk of exposing one of the least crowded, good Thai food places I know...if you haven't tried it...Go, now!

The server was friendly and made helpful suggestions as it was my first time. The restaurant is off the beaten path with a welcoming vibe. Parking can be tricky (limited), but the food is worth it. I had the shrimp fried rice and chicken wings which were seasoned well and cooked to perfection. My friend had the yellow curry and it was so good!! You have to option to choose your spice level, which is always a plus. We've already made plans to go back in a couple of weeks. This time, I will try more items and probably get food to take home as well.
