i recommend this location because of the ease of parking, as I know the other location can be pretty difficult to find parking, even on the street. i have been to Simpang many times, but only in the Castle Heights location. I feel like the food and everything is the same, but found parking much easier. what we got: roti paratha (10/10 yums): MUST GETTT. i love how buttery and flaky everything is. I also LOVEEE the sauce it comes with. I always keep the sauce and dip other things in it later! they also have a vegetarian version I believe (we got it at the other location before) The #8 Nasi Bungkus (10/10 yums): I feel like some people can get intimidated by this dish because of the sheer variety in the dish, but everything mashes together very well. the chicken is quite tender and goes very well with the seasoned rice. What a cool spot and vibe at Simpang in Venice. This place is off Lincoln Blvd, in a small shopping lot. There is some parking but your best bet is the streets. The food is Indonesian/ southeast asian style. I have to say there is some delicious food that they are making here. Came here with a party of five and had dinner right in front of the doorway. There is a pretty bar and also a lot of small chairs and tables for couples and dates. The inside is adorable and the food is good. I really enjoyed their noodle dishes and also this Bananna leaf wrap with rice, curry, and tasty chicken. Get the papaya salad it is also nice and refreshing! If you have a group you could order multiple dishes and share with everyone like family style. So if you want to try some good food with bold flavor this is a cool spot to check out! Lately I have been on a search for good Indonesian food, and this was a great find in my area... and a dangerous one. The food is excellent, and the prices are actually not unreasonable for the area, especially because the space and service are wonderful. We made a reservation ahead of time, and good thing we did because it was quite busy on a Friday night. We ordered too much food, and had to take some to go. Mango sticky rice, you will always be famous to me.... Seriously some of the best food we ate while visiting LA. This unassuming, strip-mall spot is incredible. We weren't super hungry so we went on a tour of the appetizer and dessert sections. I'd never had anything like the roti paratha before. Good spot. Located on Lincoln in a busy area, sitting near the window is great people watching. The inside seats a decent amount of diners. Cute Indonesian spot with another location in Palms. My boyfriend loves the roti paratha and the mie tek tek, and he always get it when we come. There is a small parking lot as well as street parking. The Thai tea comes with garnishings and they do have cocktails/alcohol. You can make reservations in advance but we walked in on a weeknight and there was no wait if you go later in the evening. Portions are generous and I had leftovers for lunch the following day. We ordered the roti paratha and a yellowtail ceviche from the Chef Specials menu. The roti paratha was so good. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted amazing! I loved the cream on top. For my entree I ordered the Nasi Lemak. I loved the curry chicken! We are regulars at Simpang on National, but decided to try this one. Simpang Venice has the same impeccable service and we saw some familiar faces. Both locations have different, but unique and innovative decor. Venice has spaces for groups, but also some romantic nooks. There are so many vintage pieces of decor to admire from plates to lighting fixtures. Service and ambience rate 5+/5. The food here might be more to the liking of locals and families, so it is likely that others would rate it higher. Dishes are fresh and attractive. The taste is a little more towards California Thai style cooking. Food is not at all spicy and very, very sweet. We tried the Papaya Salad, Nasi Goreng, and Singapore Noodle. The waiter brought us hot sauce, but it did not add much flavor, nor could it cut through the overpowering sweetness. Our Es Cendol was actually less sweet than our food. But I think it was because they were receiving a lot of takeout orders. But service was fast and friendly. The two best dishes were the papaya salad and the wings. The Beef Rendang was good, it wasn't sweet it wasn't spicy, it had flavored but it was too subtle. Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice, chicken curry, boiled egg, sambal, cucumber, fried anchovies and peanut.) had one very small piece of chicken drumstick and teeny tiny bit of thigh, so there were about 5 bites of chicken, with same curry dip that is served with roti; tasty but not they should put an entire piece of chicken.
