The daily specials are a great value

Simply Fish Seafood is the real deal. Owner Derek Taguchi clearly knows what he's doing, and it shows in every aspect of the restaurant. The seafood is incredibly fresh, high quality, and prepared with care, yet the prices remain surprisingly reasonable, a combination that's hard to find these days. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is lively, welcoming, and just plain fun, making it a great spot whether you're grabbing a casual dinner or celebrating with friends and family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's obvious this place was built by someone with a genuine passion for seafood and creating a great dining experience. If you're looking for outstanding seafood without the fine dining price tag, Simply Fish should be at the top of your list. I'll definitely be back!

I went here with a party of 3 on a Saturday afternoon and it was a good experience. The menu is quite large and there was live music to keep us entertained. We had shrimp taquitos and fried clams for our appetizers and I ordered the Brazilian Lobster Special for my entree. The taquito were good, and the clams were good too but they gave us so many that after a while it started to get old. I think this would be a great option for a larger party still. The lobster meal that I got had beans and coleslaw. It was good but nothing groundbreaking. Overall I really liked the vibes here and I want to come back to try more of their menu items.

I had reservations for 5:30. My family checked in at 5:15 and they were told there would be a delay. When I arrived at 5:20 I checked in myself. I walked up to the hostess podium and I was ignored. Then I said that I was checking in for 5:30p reservations and the hostess said " that's gonna be much later than. I'll probably get your party in closer to 6:30p." Obviously I was upset by this response since we drove over an hour to this restaurant for the sole purpose of a celebration of life. If reservations were going to be ignored then I would not have bothered making them in a timely matter as I was instructed to do by the organizer of the evening. I basically got the brush off like there was nothing they could do since people were not leaving (including walk-ins) after a 90 min dining limit was posted outside. I was very peeved about this response and said clearly that is not my problem yet I am being penalized. My first encounter with the hostess carried throughout my visit. Our servers name was Linda and she took our drink order as soon as we were seated, however it did seem to take a while for our drinks to arrive. Apologies were made again for the wait but at this point it was clear there was gonna be an issue throughout the meal. I ordered a Caprese salad with brussels sprouts to share family style .When my salad arrived there was no basil. It was just mozzarella and tomatoes, balsamic and olive oil with a dried herb sprinkled on top. When I asked my server if this is how the Caprese is served she said yes. I never had a Caprese with no leaves of basil. Needless to say it's not what I wanted nor expected. My sprouts were dry and overcooked. Linda was truly trying to be accommodating. I could tell she is working very hard to satisfy our group despite the fact the restaurant was packed. Linda was great. We decided to share key lime pie and the warm butter cake w/ ice cream and raspberry sauce. The key lime pie was fine. The warm butter cake was a bit different as it had a hard sugar top. Ice cream with raspberry sauce on the side as well as below. It was too much sauce for my taste. More like a jelly doughnut. My blueberry pomegranate margarita was the best part of my meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were so many things that may seem small but were enhanced because I was already upset. The fact the restaurant overly committed and couldn't handle the amount of people was a real issue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    FISH & CHIPS

I can only speak about my food. Since they claim they have the best fish & chips that's what I got. Fish, nice big pieces. Perfectly battered and crispy. The fries were seasoned well and maybe a little battered to lock in the flavor. It came out piping hot and fresh! So, yes I agree. The BEST fish and chips! Coleslaw was bland and had raisins. That visually was a turn off for me. Coleslaw didn't have enough dressing and was more like a cabbage salad. I don't remember any condiments on the tables. It would have been nice to have at least salt and pepper. Other items my table ordered: Caprese salad NO basil. You really can't call it Caprese salad then. Brussel sprouts. They were okay but definitely had too much of a "roasted" flavor (aka burnt). I could only eat a couple. Cioppino was okay. Again I wish it had more garlic and flavor. The sauce seemed more like marinara than a wine broth. We were there for a luau memorial. One of the regular musicians wife passed away. She was a regular and loved person at Simply Fish and in the Hawaiian community. We made reservations like we were instructed to do so. When we checked in ON TIME, we were told we would maybe be seated in an hour. The hostesses were kinda flippant and dismissive to the fact we followed the rules and made a proper reservation. They even said in front of us that more people came than expected who did NOT have reservations. It was the attitude of the hostesses that were unprofessional. I understand it was a memorial for a VERY loved individual but why punish the people who followed the rules? We did make a reservation. We did get seated only because another member of the community gave up their table and left early. It was a crazy busy night. Our server Linda was fantastic. She was still able to deliver fast and efficient service. We really appreciate her aloha and service. She was very fond of Auntie Consuelo too and it really showed. She was really helpful in ordering our food. The rest of the table wanted dessert. They ordered key lime pie and butter cake. I think the key lime pie was the better one of the two because that disappeared first. Butter cake looked like they torched it like a creme brûlée. I'm no pastry chef or connoisseur but that butter cake did not look like a butter cake. Calling the processed sauce coulis doesn't make it taste better. It still tasted like it came out of can. For MY food and service, it would have been 5 stars. All the food overall took away the 2 stars.

How did I not know about Simply Fish Seafood sooner?! Think of California Fish Grill on steroids! I'm so glad my friends introduced me to this place, and we even got seated next to the owner, Derek, who was so pleasant, kind, and humble. He and his staff went above and beyond, and made us feel so special. We came on St. Patrick's Day, which was perfect for their Taco Tuesday specials. We ordered a ton of food, and nothing disappointed. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. When it comes to seafood, it is usually a hit or miss for me, and items such as fish are easily overcooked. Not here. We got the CIOPPINO $22, with fettuccine $7 extra, ROCKIN' SHRIMP TACOS $3.50 each, a battered fish taco $4, a FILET MIGNON TACO $4.50 (special prices on Taco Tuesday), SHRIMP TAQUITOS (5 for $12), the WARM SEAFOOD SALAD w/ lime vinaigrette $23, and the SEABASS with rice/French fries $16. My favorites include the cioppino, Rockin' shrimp tacos (their best-selling taco), the shrimp taquitos, and the warm seafood salad. The tacos were huge and delicious as well. The fish taco was a little salty. Their menu is extensive, and they even have a SECRET MENU for more options. Could it get any better?! They even have LIVE ENTERTAINMENT on Wed, and Fri through Sun, although reservations are required on Fridays I believe, for their Tribute to Frank Sinatra and their classic 70s/80s/90s night. I definitely need to come back soon. This may be my favorite place in OC for seafood now. Fine dining quality at an affordable price, not to mention huge portions and great value! You can even order lobster tails and steak here, or add them onto your entree for an additional cost. This is the BEST RESTAURANT I have eaten at so far in 2026. Happy eating! Yelp Review #30- 2026

I haven't been here in a while. Came back recently and noticed Simply Fish went upscale :). They have live music at dinner time. One-man band. Good entertainment. My spicy salmon salad was good but it would have been nicer to get the center cut of the salmon instead of end pieces. Salmon was a tad fishy. 4/5 My husband had the fish & chips and that was good. 5/5 Service was good.

    Calamari = addicting

Good seafood and friendly staff. The space is one room with a high ceiling, but it felt cramped with how close the tables are to each other. Long wait time for dinner when we went on a Friday night, and service was a bit slow since it was packed, but staff eventually checked in to make sure we got everything. Orange roughy with fries and grilled zucchini: 3/5. The fish tasted plain, as it was very mildly seasoned. The creamy sauce was quite skimpy, and it didn't really add much flavor to the dish, but the lemon helped a little. Apps/sides such as clam chowder, calamari, and breaded scallops: 5/5. We enjoyed these a lot - they were addictive and had great textures. Definitely group pleasers. Location is in a small plaza off Harbor Blvd and Adams Ave. Free parking in the lot is available, and we didn't have any issue finding a spot even though it was a busy in the plaza.

Not this small but definately 70 dollar large/

Sorry to say our second trip was marred by the purchase of their supposed huge lobster tail for about 70 dollars. When it came it was the same size as the ones they sell at Costco. We got taken but didn't complain because it was a birthday party and we didn't want to spoil the event. The salesman/waiter duped us and now we will never come back.

Back with a friend for a second meal at Simply Fish. Had the fish and chips which is the Monday special. Enjoyed it very much!

I've had this place bookmarked for a while, and decided to come in on a Friday at 2:30. Lucky for me it was happy hour menu! We tried the lobster roll and that was $35 if you get two it's $60. I got the three taco selection and for happy hour. It's only $12. Even beers on draft at happy hour is six dollars each, which are all really reasonable prices. The menu is huge. I had a hard time deciding and thoughts and this was my first time I wanted to give something off their happy hour menu a try. Their service is excellent and they have a live. Frank Sinatra impersonator on Friday evenings and a jazz singer on Saturday evening evenings. The place is fairly large cozy and has a diner type feel . I wouldn't mind coming back to try other dishes .

Last night my family and I went to Simply Fish for dinner. I've been passing it on my way home for years and always meant to stop in, and this finally gave us a reason to go. My sister had the clam chowder bowl. Both of my nieces ordered bowls as well--one had a rock shrimp bowl and the other had a salmon bowl. I ordered the filet mignon skewer with a 4-ounce lobster. We also shared the sampler as an appetizer, but I didn't get a photo because it disappeared pretty quickly. Everyone really enjoyed their food. They had live music playing, which was actually really nice. When we arrived around 8:30 PM, the restaurant was very full and we got the last table, but we never felt rushed. We were able to take our time, enjoy the music, and relax. My skewer was tender and well seasoned. The lobster was small since it was a 4-ounce portion, but the meat was still very tender and flavorful. As for service, our server was very kind but a bit forgetful and on the slower side getting things back to us. That could have been because it was busy when we first arrived, but even later in the evening when it had cleared out, that was still the case. He may have been in training, so I'm not holding it completely against him. There was another man and woman who came around and delivered our food, and they were much better. I won't take off any stars for the service, but I do think a little more training would be helpful.

I can't believe I've lived in Costa Mesa for almost a year now and have only tried this place today. The menu is vast and there is a choice for everyone. We ordered the Sunday special which had lobster and steak on rice. My god, what a deal. Service was amazing and we never had to wait too long to have someone come ask us if we needed anything. We made same day reservations for 4 pm on a Sunday so it was not too crowded. The place is very clean and the vibe felt like a local gem seafood diner. Parking is plentiful. We will definitely be back.

We drive from Anaheim to Costa Mesa because my husband LOVES the fish 'n chips at Simply Fish. He considers himself a fish 'n chips expert, so that's a high recommendation. I have tried many other entrees (I love their scallops, as they are always cooked perfectly) and found them all to be delicious. Don't miss a side of their Brussel sprouts-- they are amazing!

For everyone who had to do multiple laps around the plaza's parking lot to find this place, you're not alone. We were struggling, but eventually found the restaurant tucked away on the outskirts next to a private training gym (the one with the super tinted windows). Upon arriving, the restaurant was very gracious to bestow upon us a pair of complimentary lemon and thyme dinner rolls. They were warm, fluffy, and everything a carb should be. Honestly wish we had more of them, to be honest! The menu was short, which was helpful in its own way. I have such chronic decision paralysis, meaning the more options I have, the more ordering conflicts I'll have, lol. Forever petitioning for every establishment to have tasting flights!!!! We ordered the Grilled Octopus Al Pastor and Ora King Salmon entrees. The octopus was a unique take on the dish, but I don't think I would order it again. I was hoping for more sauce and flavor, but it was more of a dry dish. Still something everyone should try at least once -- especially because feedback is subjective and my experience may not be yours! My friend enjoyed the salmon dish, but it looked pretty standard to me. They also brought out a complimentary Epresso Creme Brulee for my birthday, which was both figuratively and literally sweet. Very decadent and kinda had a nice tiramisu taste to it -- order this! The service was excellent and very attentive. Was very hydrated during this meal because my water cup was never empty! I would come back to try the other dishes with a larger group so I can pick at everyone else's plates, hehehe.

A great place to celebrate a special event! Located in the Pendry Hotel in Newport Beach, so you…read morecan either pay $15 valet or park at Fashion Island and walk over. Our server Jeffrey was super sweet and offered to take photos of us! He was super attentive and checked on us frequently. I got a strawberry lemon drop to start off and it was so sweet and delicious, perfect for someone who likes sweeter, fruity drinks. For food, we got the bluefin tuna pizza, surf & turf roll, chef's perfect set (classic steak), and the blue crab pasta. The courses were spaced out so we got the first two dishes and then the last two after we were done with those. The bluefin tuna blew my mind!! The truffle was so fragrant and complemented the fish well, and the texture was perfectly crispy. The surf & turf roll was delicious and a great start. The steak set came with the 3 classics: filet, flat iron, and New York; as well as 3 sauce accompaniments: chimichurri, bbq, and bearnaise. The steak was cooked perfectly and my favorite sauce was the bearnaise. The blue crab pasta did come a with a little too much lemon, but the chunks of crab in it were HUGE and super generous. Our dessert was the warm chocolate pudding cake which was super decadent and rich! Since we were celebrating a birthday, it came with a sparkler which was super fun and cute. Definitely a meal worth splurging on for a special occasion!

This was our second time at SET- the first was less than a year ago and was just as bad if not worse, but we thought hey maybe it was a bad night let's try it again. Nope, they're just always like this. First of all- the hostesses are rude. They have an arrogant attitude and won't acknowledge you while you stand right in front of them until they decide they'd like to. We had a 7:30 reservation and they said there's going to be a wait and we'll text you. We didn't get sat until 8:00pm no apology. Not a great way to start off a birthday dinner. Last time we came our food and drinks took far too long. Waited 30 minutes for drinks and over an hour for food. Server said kitchen was backed up- that's fine okay. This time my first cocktail also took just as long, and came after our first 2 apps! And to top it off they made something completely different than a NY whiskey sour- no wine float and it was overwhelmed with bitters (not even an ingredient). It tasted okay, but a simple google search could've helped them, and I had ordered it here before no problem. I waited so long I did not want to send it back and have to wait again. The poor table next to us waited so long for their food only to find out much later that they no longer even had what they ordered. Ended the night waiting 30 minutes for $15 valet. Here's what I'll say- the food is good and they are very fortunate to have amazing servers who have to overcompensate for the disorganization of this restaurant. Having things comped is nice, but I would've much rather had my food and drinks correct and on time. It's just one problem after another at this place- two for two now! The bar is consistently slow (maybe they are understaffed), the kitchen is disorganized (multiples of plates coming out by mistake, food taking forever, or informing servers last minute of 86'd items), and seating is egregious. I feel bad for everyone who works here- having to deal with the mismanagement of the restaurant. Spent around $400 here both times, and for the number of issues- it's just not worth it. Masters ocean club and Ocean 48 are both nearby and so much better by far. They cost about the same, have better ambiance, better service, and I've never had any issues at either. I'd skip SET if you're looking to celebrate anything. Your night will be overshadowed by unfortunate circumstances.

We arrived a bit early for reservation, so we waited at a high top in the bar area (she wasn't old enough to actually sit at the bar). I enjoyed a Monkey Business cocktail while I waited - whisky with banana puree and pineapple juice. When our table was ready, a hostess came to escort us to the main dining room. The atmosphere felt very refined and classy. I really liked the dark, brooding ambiance. Our server was Josh, who took incredible care of us the entire night. He was very professional and knew the menu extremely well. A very cool detail is that the menus were customized with a birthday greeting for my sister! Oddly enough, the bread basket was not complimentary, but included a delicious variety of breads such as pretzel rolls and parmesan crisps. My sister's favorite was the parmesan crisp while mine was the onion bread. For our starter, we shared the jumbo lump crab cakes, served with a creamy and tangy remoulade. They were absolutely scrumptious. The crab tasted fresh, and the patties were hearty. At this point, I asked Josh if the bar could make me a pornstar martini. I quickly relayed the ingredients to him, vanilla vodka, passionfruit liqueur, lime, simple, and a side of prosecco, and he went to check if the bar could accommodate my request. As it turns out, they could. According to Josh, they knew exactly what it was from the name and didn't need any further details. Not only was the cocktail delicious, Josh even provided me with the shaker filled with additional cocktail inside. What amazing customer service! For my entree, at Josh's recommendation, I had the dry aged ribeye. We also got one of the specials, the Alaskan king crab and black truffle gnocchi, per his recommendation. This meal was incredible. That ribeye was magnificent. The crust was perfect, and the inside was so incredibly juicy and tender. The gnocchi was divine. The flavors were so indulgent - creamy, rich, and laden with chunks of luxurious Alaskan king crab. My mouth is watering as I think back on this dish. This was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. For dessert, we had a slice of rich chocolate cake on the house, accompanied by raspberries, a chocolate and caramel drizzle, and a silver platter of whipped cream. We had an amazing experience at Mastro's. A special thanks to Josh taking such good care of us the entire night. I am already anticipating my next visit.

We found them to be very comparable: classy, sophisticated, and praiseworthy for both food and service. Celebrating Mother's Day for two mothers, and my granddaughter's 14th birthday, we began with a nice assortment of bread products, Shrimp Cocktail, and Bigeye Ahi Tartare. The shrimps were large, and the tuna melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I could not finish a large crock of French Onion Soup, and only ate half of Mastro's House Salad, which was riddled with shrimp. The part left behind sufficed nicely as an entire lunch for me the next day. While I selected flaky Chilean Sea Bass for my main, Diane splurged on a Jumbo 14 oz. Lobster Tail, and my daughter and granddaughter both opted for a 16 oz. New York Strip Steak adorned with Truffle Butter. For sides, Diane liked her large loaded Baked Potato, and I was fond of the ceamy white Scalloped Potatoes. For dessert the birthday girl enjoyed s slice of complimentary Special Occasion Cake, while Diane tried a dense slice of Pecan Pie, and my daughter and I shared an order of Chocolate Covered Strawberries. Service by Anony was five stars all the way, and so was our entire experience here.
