    Basil stir fry with tofu

Another difficult review to write. I had left the house earlier in the late morning to run errands. But I had not eaten anything. So after having been out for 3.5 hours and on my way to Whole Foods..I really needed some sustanance. And I remembered this food cart pod as I was heading down Sandy. Surprisingly most of the food carts were closed. I was happy that Simply Thai was open. I had never tried this place before. I was debating of getting either green curry or Basil stir fry. And the young lady recommended the Basil stir fry. I went with tofu. And asked her if their's a lot of veggies and she said yes. The food came out quickly and they spiced it Thai hot as requested. It was delicious. It had tofu, green beans, carrots, and onion. (Oh I requested no bell peppers) The reason and only reason I am not rating 5 stars is because of the price and the portion. $15.45 and the portion is small. For that amount of money the plate should have been loaded up; piled high with food. As you will see in the photo I took the small portion. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this significant point. If you think about how much these vegetables and tofu cost. Not very much. And they give you a small portion... Well they are making a whooping profit. When I went to pay and seen the price... I asked the girl 15.45? Really why so expensive? And her generic but friendly response was "cause every thing is more expensive now" I was tempted to not pay and go else where..but I was very hungry and didn't really have any idea where else to go.. So their you have it..food was very delicious. Service was very friendly. And it's picnic tables for seating. But what kills the deal for me is small portions and high price. If they fill the plate high with food then I suppose $15.45 is fair or continue giving the same small portion of food and lower the price to $9. Then it would be 5 stars.

Why did I wait so long to try this place?? I ordered the basil stir fry with chicken and basil, hot. Everything was so fresh. Best green beans ever. Tender chicken. Spicy the way I like it. Every Thai food cart should be this good!!!

Service was pretty surly but the food came fast. Had the pad Kai mao. It was very ordinary. Less good than most of the Thai places I go to.

5 star food with excellent service - very welcoming and knows how to upsell lol…read more Food Orderd: 1. Fried Chicken Roti Combo - holy fried chicken crispy, combo comes with 1x leg and 1x thigh cut into two pieces. Curry was delicious and balance, excellent when dipped with the crispy roti or fried chicken. Pickled veggies were a great pairing and sweet and sour added another dimension. 2. Pad Thai - glistening noodles served inside an egg omelet. Very solid pad thai - sweet, sour, salty. Don't forget to add the fresh shrimp, these were cooked perfectly and plump. I recommend the restaurant should take the shrimp tail shell off for us. 3. Thai Basil Lemonade - solid lemonade, NEED more basil flavor. Overall, I'd come here again to eat and try other items as well. I'll give it a 5 star for now but more 4.5.

I'll start by saying this place is definitely not big so come with the expectation that you might have to wait for a table. There's only about 8-10 tables in the place and it's definitely geared towards smaller groups. Regardless we ordered at the front and then were able to find a seat. Wound up ordering the combo to try and get a taste of everything. The portions were solid and everything was super tasty. The chicken is perfectly breaded and delicious. It's a bit of a messy meal so just come with that in mind. Have a bunch of different options that also looked tasty. Will have to come back and try again. Service was fine. They were kind and cleared the table. Water is self serve at front of the restaurant and they clearly do a fair amount of takeout. Cool local spot to definitely check out.

I always order the rice combo platter with minced pork and Chinese sausage, it also comes with a lot of rice and egg and bbq pork - then add the crispy pork belly for that crunch! The runny egg yolk and spicy minced pork tie everything together into one incredibly savory, comfort meal. I paired it with a side of soup and a drink, which was so satisfying! This time we sat outside, and it was the perfect spot, as it was a beautiful sunny day - we were able to people watch just off Hawthorne Boulevard. They also have indoor seating if you prefer. The food comes out fairly quickly and you bust your own tables when done. If you're looking for a hearty, homie meal that's packed with flavor and gives you plenty for your money, that you will have plenty of leftovers to share, this is the place!

I understand they do not say "vegan" as the other two items do, but they are definitely not "meatless". I originally wanted to order the #20 Ba-Mhee Tofu. I asked the employee if the bone broth was made from pork, and he said yes. I then proceeded to order the #22 Tofu Curry Noodle. He did not think to tell me that this item was also made of pork. Unfortunately, I knew the moment I took a bite that this was pork broth. Not only this, but the broth was overly sweet compared to any other khao soi I've had in my life. The egg noodles were all stuck together. I did enjoy the tofu, they were firmer in texture. My friend ordered the the tom yum and said it also didn't taste like tom yum, and she has been to Thailand before. We both liked the Thai tea, it wasn't too sweet and only $3. They give the side spices/peppers without you having to ask. There is a clean bathroom for customers. You are expected to bus your own table. Would not recommend.
