If you are a fan of Mondrian or his contemporaries, this is not to be missed! It gives a fair view…read moreof his life as both a person and an artist. This museum is located in his actual house of birth, in the historic city of Amersfoort. It houses a replica of his Parisian studio. Apart from this, the Mondriaanhuis also exhibits different collections that have a relationship with the famous Piet Mondrian. Tip of advise: combine this museum with a visit to both the historic city center of Amersfoort and the KAdE museum of contempary art. A day well spent!

If you're a fan of Mondriaan, as I am, you will enjoy this museum for its gift shop, its replica of…read moreMondriaan's New York City apartment, and for its location in Amersfoort. Beyond that, there actually isn't much to see here, unfortunately. They have one small Mondriaan painting that you would not know (trust me), along with many artifacts of his life, including letters, photos and books. The gift shop features many nice Mondriaan and other books that were very tempting. And the replica of the apartment is a nice representation of the desired lifestyle of a genius artist in the early 20th century. The city of Amersfoort itself was a nice bonus to my visit. It's a pretty little town with plenty of cafes and shops to add interest to your time here. A great lazy day adventure. PS - be prepared to lock up your purse in their little lockers. They apparently had some vandalism recently and don't trust anyone!

This castle is close to Amsterdam, but it's not that big and there isn't much to do outside of it…read more The GoCity Pass does cover the ferry from Amsterdam to Muiserslot but you have to reserve online. To proud pronounce Muiserslot, you have to say it as "Mouse-sir-slow" btw. Yes, the Castle is cool if you do the self guided tour and ferry ride but I finished about a hour early and got lunch there. You'll learn about this 11th century castle and its history where most of it was built up in the 1500s, and the various tools used to keep invaders out. It has never been attacked hence its great condition. As for the cafe at the bottom floor, the sandwich was actually pretty good and about €6 when I went. We had a little too much extra time so we actually walked to the garden where Schoolchildren grew their vegetables and read through everything, we finished so early. The ferry ride was pretty comfortable with drinks so if you're into getting a pint this is the way to go. Overall the only downside is that the way to and from via ferry takes a long time, almost the whole day, which if you want a faster trip take the car. Overall, a soldi day trip from Amsterdam.

Highlights/Tips: + First and foremost, this is not located in Amsterdam, but outside it. If you are using the IAmsterdam card, your transportation will not be covered. You will have to either pay each individual bus/tram used, or purchase a regional card. Also, expect a bit of a walk, because if getting dropped off by bus, you will need to walk into the town to the castle itself. It is an easy ~15 minute walk to the castle from the bus. + With your ticket, a guided tour is included. It is important to note that the tour is only offered in Dutch; however, they offer information in English during the tour. You will also need to take the voucher provided when you receive your ticket to the kiosk to determine the time of your guided tour. + There are self guided tours where you can follow a suggested route, such as the Medieval Tower Route. There are plaques and additional information (offered in Dutch/English). + Seemed to be very kid friendly and offered a quest type passport where a route/activities are to be done and stamps are collected as you go. Information can be found at the ticket office. + Locker can be found by the cafe/gift shop/restrooms to store backpacks + Outside the castle , you can explore a small garden area, as well as falconer that offers a display of his birds of prey during select days/time ** On extremely hot days, the dungeon is the place to stop for a cool dark place to beat the heat.
