I'll admit that this place does have some good fish, but it can be a little pricey depending on when you go and what you get. I've been here a couple of times and although the fish itself is good, the batter is lacking on seasoning. I also wish the outer was more crispy than what I've experienced. The poutine fries are really good and I get them every time I go. The decor is a bit dated, but the service there is great. Chances are...I'll be back again for lunch some day. read more

I took my family to Sir Cedric's on "cheap fish night" pre-pandemic, since we had heard great things about the food. I was not prepared to travel back in time, though. The dining area is incredibly dated. I'm not even sure that's a bad thing... it almost adds to the charm. The servers are also kind of old-school, as they were super friendly but also seemingly in a hurry to turn tables (cheap fish night is busy). It had kind of a diner vibe. The fish batter could use more seasoning, for sure, but that seems to be the norm for fish & chips in the area. If you have a passport or an enhanced driver's license I advise you go to Sir Cedric's now. The halibut is just amazing as are the a'la carte shrimp. Fresh and perfectly coated, just ideal. Firm, flaky, cannot be better in any way. Good tartar but to be honest this fish does just fine on its own. Nice chips, just evil fried delights, a little malt vinegar and a kiss of salt and I was blissful. The coleslaw is even tasty! My husband really appreciates the do it yourself salt seasoning here. He of course added nada. He also preferred cocktail sauce to tartar and they were more than happy to give him more. They cut their own fish and potatoes on premises, I appreciate that a lot. Maybe we caught the honorable Sir Cedric on a bad day, but we didn't quite get the four or five-star experiences described in the other reviews. Don't get me wrong: Sir Cedric's wasn't bad. We tried the halibut as suggested by the reviews and by Sir Cedric's own menu. The batter was a nice, crusty British-style one but could have been a bit crisper, as well as bolder with the seasoning. The fish seemed fresh and its texture was pleasantly firm, but the flakiness you hope for from halibut was verging into stringiness, which isn't a good thing. Maybe it was a wee bit overfried. The fried potatoes served with the fish were solid, though. The staff was pleasant, friendly, and efficient. Although I like a good-hole-in-the-wall atmosphere as much as the next guy, I thought Sir Cedric's was a little on the dreary side. If you're kinda old like I am, the 1970s-style signage outside will send off a nice nostalgic vibe, but the restaurant is grey and dim inside, with dated furnishings and mostly tired nautical decor. I found this place from the yelp reviews. The food is decent but in my opinion the portions are small for the amount of money they charge. I had the Cod and my mom had the seafood combination platter. If you are staying at Caesars it is only a five minute drive down University Street. The lady that waited on me was very nice and I may go back for a second try. Oh the soup was delicious I had broccoli my mom had clam chowder. I have been here a few times and tried different fried fish dishes here. Fish is chips is a great comfort food... I never had a good meal here though. Most recently on a slow weekday dinner, I ordered a special $10.99 for a one piece cod and chips with a ceasar salad. The salad was delicious and crisp. That's about all that was delicious. The fish was half batter and not the crispy delicious kind but the soggy flavorless one that I ended up peeling off and not eating. The fries were obviously old or fried in dirty oil. The worst part was the coleslaw that came with my friend's chicken ceasar wrap. The taste was very strong of weed and smelled like hash oil. I know what vinegar and normal coleslaw tastes like but that was not it ... Positives: the waiters seem sweet, good location with parking, senior specials. read more

We live across the border in Michigan, and we will be returning to enjoy this place. The halibut is nowhere to be found in our area so a trip through the tunnel was definitely worth the short trip. Taking the hint from Brian F., I tried Sir Cedrics today. O my god... The food is delicious. I had the Halibut dinner, with 4 extra Jumbo Shrimp. Sir Cedrics endorses Halibut, but Cod and Haddock are both available at lower prices. I can't say enough good about Halibut. The fish was extremely fresh, perfectly cooked and breaded just right. The tartar sauce was an experience in itself. Clearly the tartar was freshly made, and had a slight green hue to it. It did not overpower the fish; the taste was enhanced and harmonized. The fantastic vinegar based cole slaw was a lot like the slaw I make, but they use a different white vinegar than I have tasted. Further investigation is necessary. The chips were fresh cut potatoes, perfectly cooked. On the table was ketchup, as well as both white and malt vinegar. I used the only the malt vinegar (and salt) on the fries. One thing I noticed is the lack of salt coming from the kitchen. Sir Cedrics leaves the salting to the customer! That is the right approach folks. Too bad you need to do the homeland security dance to eat the best fried fish in the area. Go here people. Think of this as the Pollo Chapin of Fried Fish . Its that good. read more

American f/c's all tend to be greasy, Cedrics is very light a breading that's airy almost. I've never had halbut up till now and WOW is it a nice tasting fish very fresh and absolutly no fishy smell to it. Firm, but light, if that makes any sense. My special came with chips, slaw(AWESOME AWESOME), and a cup of clam chowder which was meh. The chips are deeeelicious, with malt vinager and some salt, yummy in my tummy. Whenever I visit Windsor, I always go to a different Fish and Chip joint, but my nephew recommended this place as, in his words, "they're the best". While the halibut I ordered was good, it wasn't as good as the other place I visit. The chips were just ok....nothing special. Our waitress was spectacular......she remembered all the regulars and although we didn't know her, she greeted us warmly. She was efficient and was moving all over the restaurant. Decor is early '60's style...pretty dreary....but you're not there to get decorating ideas.... While it wasn't the best I've had, I would go back as the piece of fish was fairly large (for the price) and was cooked perfectly. read more

I read somewhere that Sir Cedric's has the best fish and chips outside of England. I had to investigate the claim. My first surprise is that they offer halibut and haddock as opposed to the basic cod offered most places in America. I had the halibut and chips, and they were both cooked perfectly. You must have gravy on the chips. Tasty! We also had the shrimp and a seafood platter with coleslaw. I was wowed by the house made tartar sauce. Came into Windsor for a guy night with some friends. We weren't looking for anything special, and at this time most anyone is money conscious. We found Cedric's to be close to our hotel, and decided to try it. The food was delicious. It's a nice little place with very friendly staff. As Americans, we were able to pay with US dollars with ease as well. Personally, I had the special which was a near 4 dollars and came with a piece of fish, and a hearty amount of chips (seemingly homemade fries). I also ordered jumbo shrimp and a piece of cherry pie to top it all off. The bill for the amount of food I had was quite reasonable and the food, again, was quite delicious. If I make it back to Windsor, I'll definitely consider eating here again. read more
