After having visited Slaters Mill and Lowell Natl Hist Monument, I had to visit the valley, the Derwent which is now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where the textile industry began. And boy oh boy was I not disappointed. Richard Arkwright is the father of the factory system; he is responsible for making improvements and applying water technology to the process of producing yarn from cotton. It is only 3 pounds to see the museum and there are demonstrations of some of the significant machines at certain times. Upon paying the entrance fee, you are given a guide, the museum has very few signs but your smartphone can access info via the QR codes or one can use the wifi provided by the museum to obtain more info about the machinery in question.
