The one shot before my phone froze. Camera photos to come...

First time on a dog sled and it was a blast! Getting there: easy. However, I didn't realize that once you turn left onto cache creek road, you're there. Park to the right on the small strip of road where the signs are. It wasn't clear to me and I turned around and got stuck in the snow. Thankfully I got help from the driver I was trying to slowly pass which caused me to get stuck and then Team Sirius pulled my car out with their truck. We were early so I didn't cause a big delay in our start. The ride: I booked the 6 mile ride- no need to learn how to drive a sled. 3 of us adults so they brought 2 sleds, both with training sleds attached. I didn't realize that 2 of us would be standing on the backs- awesome! The 3rd got to sit on a big cushion and literally enjoy the ride. The dogs were so cute and friendly and very excited to get going. They had to switch some around based on our size. We were instructed on how to hold on and shift on turns. We were given big fur backed mittens to wear, but honestly my own would have been enough. I ended up taking them off to get a better grip. The scenery is beautiful! It's also fun to watch the dogs- we did not go fast so it was very easy to stand in the back. The only downside is you can't take photos or videos while moving. So if someone is sitting, they should be shooting. As luck would have it, something broke 1/2 way through the run so I ended up sitting and getting to take photos and videos. We stopped several times; gives the dogs a rest so they can cool down in the snow. Had to get off twice when we came to an icy spot (same spot coming and going) and walk for about 30-50 feet so we didn't risk flipping off the sled and onto the ice- there was snow to walk on the side of the trail. Such a memorable experience and one I'd repeat if I'm ever given the opportunity to do it again.

THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN. We visited Fairbanks in November 2017 to do some Northern Lights chasing, but this ended up being the highlight of the trip. *Nita was super responsive via email and helped book everything and answer questions we had. I appreciate this even more now realizing how off-the-grid their location is! *She was SUPER gracious about us running late (it took us ~40-45 minutes but we just didn't account for the fresh snow we had to clean off our car and then the ice slowing us down along the way) -- it could come from the fact that they only book one tour a day instead of multiple, so no one's rushing from one place to the other. *Super good directions to their place (Google Maps actually was pretty close, if not quite perfect, but we followed the site directions anyway) *Nita had some gear that we could use, but we rented from Alaska Element (www.alaskaelement.com) and didn't need anything else. *THE DOGS ARE AWESOME!!!!! So friendly, so sweet, very big, and hilarious too. Nita knows her dogs like they're her children, like who doesn't like who, who prefers xyz, and it was just really fun to spend time learning about them and their different personalities. While we were there, a few of the females were in heat so there were extra tensions to be careful of (intact males + females in heat = crazy) but it was all fine. If you've been around big dogs, you'll be fine, but if you haven't been, just follow directions and you'll be fine too. *We spent maybe 30 minutes just talking, getting instructions, then learned how to harness the dogs and really got to help with this. Then, we were off! I fell off once (sigh) and the initial few minutes are actually the toughest with the downhill and then the turns, so my thighs were burning, but after a while it was no problem. We could stand up and stretch during straightways (Nita and I did a double-sled, kind of like drivers ed haha, and Shawn/Sean and my husband did another). The fresh snow meant there were branches hanging low so I got hit a couple times by those (slow reflexes haha) but otherwise it was super enjoyable. The dogs were troopers, and it was hilarious seeing them jump into the snow to cool off during breaks because they were getting too hot. At one point I had to run with the sled because it was so steep (Nita extended our tour a little since we were apparently hanging in there haha) and that was legit challenging (running, in snow, in lots of gear, lol) but we made it! And man was that fun. We did the "mini mushing school" because we just weren't sure how hard it would be, or how cold it would be, and it was perfect for us - but we would totally do this again if we come back. Thank you thank you thank you Nita!

Nita stopped to take photos, which I super appreciated. This is one of my favorites.

Hands down the best thing we did while visiting Fairbanks. Nita and Shawn were great. They helped us arrange for a local taxi driver/ friend (Pioneer Taxi) to pick us up at our hotel, and we met them at a trailhead near Nita's house. This year Nita is operating off her property while she gets some documents squared away for her to continue to operate her business at her house. The dogs are all great and Nita clearly treats them like family (almost all arrived packed into the back seat of her truck). Overall, a great experience which I cannot recommend enough.

This is a great tour located in Fairbanks, Alaska. They pick you up from your hotel or lodging and drive you out to a great location outside of downtown to a very personal experience with sled dogs. They have great food and drinks available and the sled ride is just enough of you are freezing outside. You get a chance to play with the dogs inside and outside of the cabin where the owner sleeps. If you are lucky, it is dark enough for you to view the Aurora/Northern Lights. Overall, it was a very good experience.

This was the highlight of my trip to alaska so far! I found them on Google & love the page she lovingly created for all her huskies. So I booked the sledding tour and aurora together. Nita made sure we all had the right gear - I thought I did but fortunately she knew better and loaned me all her stuff to keep warm. She gave us a run down of how & where to stand, and all the safety stuff & off we went with our husky & handler teams. The dogs were working hard & it was such a great experience!! Then we met the huskies who were busy with their treat and a the puppies and everyone else in the yard. She then prepared a cariboo soup dinner (delicious!), we had salad, fresh bread, mac & cheese (yummy!), and raspberry jam for dessert (so good!). We hung out with the huskies whilst waiting for the aurora.. and they are the most gentle and loving huskies ever. They love their cuddles & pats. She brought the 4 weeks old puppies to play with and they are too adorable. The aurora was not as bright compared to the other nights but we could watch from inside the warm cabin, playing with the dogs. It was a fantastic experience! This is the dog sledding experience to go for!

Amazing experience! Wonderful time mushing, and watching the aurora while hanging out with the adorable dogs. Nita, the host, was great. She was very knowledgeable, and also flexible with scheduling. I had to arrive late, so she took me out another day for sledding with the dogs. Very highly recommended!

Aurora over Sirius Sled Dogs (before Nita helped me with how to take a picture)

This was the absolute best thing I did in Alaska and one of the best experiences of my life! Nita was a wonderful host and the night was perfect. She picked us up at our hotel, drove us up to her house in the mountains (about 30 min), and we spent the night cuddling with dogs and watching the Aurora. The dog sledding was about 25 minutes - enough time for us to enjoy the ride and a short enough time not to freeze our butts off. We had delicious soup for dinner (never had reindeer sausage before) and then relaxed in her comfortable lodge until the Northern Lights decided to appear. I forgot my tripod to take photos and Nita was wonderful to give me some extra tools she had laying around and she even let me know how to properly set up my camera. I would recommend this activity to any person visiting Fairbanks!

Sirius dogsledding is the way to go when seeking an amazing dogsledding experience in Fairbanks! The cabin is just outside the city, so prepare for amazing stargazing and views of the northern lights, should they appear. The cabin is warm and cozy -- and being surrounded smiling huskies makes it even better! Nita is great at bringing people together, whipping up amazing meals, and sharing her impressive knowledge on Alaska and dogsledding.

Our guide was fun to talk t, a nice guy who has been training and running sled dogs for years and had great stories. Checking in: When you arrive, you check in at a little house at the bottom of the long driveway downhill and then head over to the sled waiting area. Meeting the Dogs: While you wait your turn, you can pet and play with the dogs. It's a little bit sad at first because each dog is chained to a stake near their individual dog house. Some of them were really tired and just wanted to be left alone, but others were super friendly and eager to make friends. The Ride: When it's your turn, you just pop right into the sled and off you go! A quick heads-up: make sure you get completely comfortable before you take off, because there is no stopping to re-adjust once you start. Also, keep in mind the seating arrangement means the person in front is essentially laying back on the person in the back. While it was a fun bucket-list experience, it's probably a one-and-done activity that I wouldn't necessarily feel the need to do again. Pro tip: Warning (The Hill): To get to the rides, you drive down a long, snow-covered driveway hill, roughly 150 yards. As I was driving down, I couldn't help but wonder if my car would be able to get back up. Sure enough, afterwards, my SUV rental could not make it up the slope and kept sliding backward. Even though I was driving an All-Wheel Drive SUV, it only had standard tires instead of proper snow tires, which caused me a ton of grief and ultimately required a tow up the hill by AAA. (If you're curious, I rented the vehicle from Budget at the airport, you can read my separate review about that nightmare!). It's a fun, authentic Alaskan adventure. Just make sure your vehicle is truly winter-ready.

Our musher was fantastic, sharing curious anecdotes about the dogs throughout the ride. We stopped at the 1-mile mark for some stunning photos, and at the end, we got to pet and cuddle the dogs, it was amazing! To top it off, they welcomed us back with hot coffee and freshly baked cookies. I felt so well taken care of by the staff. Highly recommended! You can tell how much they love their dogs, and how much their dogs love them. It felt like a truly authentic local experience instead of a mass-produced tourist trap. The landscape we sledded through was all gorgeous permafrost, boreal forest, and frozen river - it was magical. It was amazing to be able to stand on the sled runners in the back, in addition to just sitting in the sled. We also spent some time in the kennel yard playing and taking photos of all the beautiful dogs, who all had such distinct personalities! I can't possibly put into words how wonderful our experience was here…read more Our original dog sled ride elsewhere was cancelled due to weather, but that operator told us to try Friendly Arctic Adventures, which we had not heard of. Thom (the owner) was able to get us in on short notice. We had booked just the short sled ride, but when we got there learned we could have the option of driving our own team. My wife opted to ride in the sled, but I decided to go for it. At the end of the training session I was overwhelmed and doubted my ability to do it, but with my heart racing I decided I had to try. It was the single most amazing experience of my life. I harnessed one of my dogs, petted them all, and we rode the trails for what had to have been at least an hour. After the ride Thom gave us booties for one of our own dogs who likes to play in the snow but his paws always freeze up. My only regret about the whole adventure is that I missed feeding salmon to my team because I went back into the cabin to warm up when we were done. So now I have to come back to Fairbanks to do it again and give my dogs extra salmon. :)

There was a slight booking error so I had to push my tour back a day (no biggie) but Thom was super apologetic and worked with me as much as he could and went above & beyond for my tour to make it memorable. I seriously couldn't have asked for a better day and it ended my trip on such a high note! His cabin has extra gear and he makes sure you are dressed properly and ready to be out in the elements, he explained everything very thoroughly to make sure I understood what I would be doing. It was only me for the tour, so I helped him harness the dogs and get set up and by then my heart was racing & so was my mind thinking, "what did I get myself into??" LOL it all happens so fast but it's SUCH A BLAST!! These dogs live to run and they love it! They take such good care of them and love them like family, they are not abused or left out in the cold. They make sure they are all happy and healthy. We stopped now and then to check on the dogs and take pics, and he would turn back now and then to take video and pics of me to send to me later. I had no idea it would be so much work - but I was sore for a good 2 days hahaha. It could have been from gripping the sled so hard (don't do that! lol ) and the couple of falls I took, one of which was on ice. But it happens and the dogs know to stop when the sled falls over. But you have to be quick getting back on! This was such a memorable, amazing, incredible, once in a lifetime memory and I will never forget it - happy birthday, merry christmas and happy new year to me!! :) :) I couldn't recommend Thom and Friendly Arctic Adventures more - book them and you won't be sorry!
