Avoid! Worst experience in Italy!…read more As the other many 1-star reviews have noted this company offers some of the worst customer service ever encountered. This vacation rental apartment we rented with "Homes in Florence" in Florence was a dreadful experience. Despite the property being advertised as "Luxury Santa Croce 4" and the price being $500+ per night, basic amenities were not provided. The AC in the living room was not working, the WiFi died on the second day, and the shower had issues with fluctuations in temperature. The Nespresso machine had no pods or sugar, and the laundry machine had no laundry powder. The towels and sheets were cheap and there were no extras. The master bed was uncomfortably hard without padding. There was really nothing "luxurious" about this place other than the views and the price. The agency was unresponsive and unhelpful, taking five days to resolve the WiFi issue and offering little consideration. We had to check out early as we couldn't work, and there was no apology or a reasonable refund to date.

Small but super cute shop just a few blocks from Piazza San Marco filled with beautiful ceramics…read more We came in several times throughout our several month stay in Florence to browse their items before buying several pieces to take back to America. They have many different items--tiles, pitchers, plates, bowls, salt and pepper shakers, etc.--at different sizes and price points, which made it very easy for us to buy several items for ourselves and family. I don't think all of the designs are necessarily unique (in fact, we were able to find a tile that looked close enough to match a bowl and pitcher set that we got at Williams-Sonoma for our wedding over 10 years ago), but the items are hand painted. The quality of the actual ceramics is superior, as well--the ceramics are heavy and sturdy, and can actually be used to serve food or eaten off of. We actually plan on using the tiles as part of our backsplash in our kitchen, and we were assured the tiles can withstand the regular exposure to heat, being splashed by food, and being wiped down. Shopkeepers were always pleasant and welcomed our whole family into the shop, even though my children could have easily broken several Euros worth of items (luckily, they didn't)! We didn't feel rushed or pressured to buy anything, but the shopkeeper was right there and willing to answer any questions we had. When we did finally purchased *a lot* of items she took great care to wrap our items in bubble wrap so that they could make the journey back home--and they made it just fine! Tuscany is known for producing several quality items--paper, leather, food, etc. Don't forget ceramics, and if you're looking for a shop to buy quality ceramics come to La Botteghina del Ceramista.

I loved this little shop of authentic Tuscana ceramics near the Duomo! The woman running the shop…read moreis so sweet and helpful. She told me the back story on her family and about the artist who designed the pieces! I felt so welcomed and fell in love with my pieces! Once the online shop is up and running I plan to add on to my collection!
