Six Ping is a small hole in the wall bakery middle of Chinatown (Chinese side of Beltway 8) They have "up to date" recipes and super tasty flavors and breads. I've tried the taro to cream cheese to coffee flavored and even Pig face shaped, etc. All very soft and baked fresh daily. My favorite used to be Tous Les Jours in Hmart as they have a great variety and awesome breads too but Six Ping is half the price!!! One thing to note: Tous Les Jours bread go bad within a few days. I mean it gets hard and molds up within a week. Whats funny is that Six Ping bread does not mold even after 2 weeks. I know because I dropped off some at my grandmonthers and when i went back 2 weeks later, there it sat untouched. I opened one up and though not rock hard as i expected, it still seemed edible. I LOVE this bakery! It has to be one of the best places to get Asian pastries in my opinion. It's a small shop but I love how nice and cozy it looks! It's always very clean and organized and the workers there are ever so friendly and welcoming. They have a good variety in baked goods and also sell sandwiches, meat buns, and a nice variety of cold drinks for those looking for a quick lunch to grab. They just recently started selling french macarons too, which I thought was a nice edition to their bakery as I don't come by macarons often in my area. They come in a little plastic bags of two and they're quite big in size compared to all the other macarons I have bought in the past. The taste however... could have been a bit better? I got yellow and green colored macarons thinking that the yellow one was lemon and the green one was either pistachio or matcha flavored. The yellow one tasted nothing of lemon, it was more like a bland vanilla flavor. The green one tasted of coffee which was a bit confusing. All in all they weren't the best macarons I've had but I give the bakery credit for adding them onto their shelves. I highly recommend this bakery! It's worth giving a try. read more

Lots of variety and great execution--I'm always impressed by how immaculate everything looks. I don't come here too often, but I do like to stop by on occasion and try something new, or just stick with the classics, like taro or red bean buns. In general, I like Asian bakeries because things are not as overpoweringly sweet. If you've never been before, give it a try! read more

Cash only for baked goods! Take note! Saturday brunch was delicious: the you tiao wrapped in egg and fried in additional dough was awesome. Scallion pancake with mini shrimps had a little too much scallion. Fresh soy milk was my favorite part! There were several other doughy, savory dishes, but the food ensuing coma has blended them together into a nostalgic warmth in my tummy. As far as baked goods go, they have remained fresh with the nice wrapping. All of them have included more-than-satisfactory amounts of filling and were aesthetically pleasing. This is the first time in my life I've enjoyed a Chinese sweet. I have no idea what the bun I tried was called, but it was a soft brioche topped with sesame and filled with red bean paste and mochi. The square root of 16 is...FOUR. And that's the rating I give you. Definitely a place to hit up if you want some HK bakery. Although it isn't the traditional bakery I am used to, they provide a nice assortment of goodies, especially the 'yook-sun' (pork shreddings) on their very soft and not overly sweet bread. I wish I can recall everything I ordered, but its solid good. I think they served the Macau version of the 'dan tat' (egg tart), which isn't the same as the HK style. Pretty good. It was a very family and community oriented establishment which is always awesome to see. The bakery is in the Chinatown area of Houston, Texas. They have a big variety of Asian influenced baked goods and desserts. Their products are always fresh, flavorful, and uniquely designed. I was blown away by the cakes. The pastries that they sell have a bunch of unique ingredients. Things that I'd never think would taste good in a desert. Beyond disappointed. Last night I got a pack of the two giant macarons ( blue berry and green tea 5$). I couldn't even eat them because they were ROCK HARD no exaggeration. All I could do was lick the butter cream, and the green tea butter cream was coffee flavored which was strange. I also got the dried pork buns. The bread was great but the dried pork texture felt like meat powder. First and last time to be honest. I'd rather go to King bakery; not as fancy but quality baked goods. Tradition meets innovation at this classic, Taiwanese-style bakery at super affordable prices. Upon entering the tiny bakery, you are hit with a wave of sweet warmth that wraps around your senses like a warm hug. Seriously, it smells so good in here. It took me back to my childhood summers in Taiwan where I would stuff my face with all the breads my stomach could hold. The breads here are pretty good. You have a lot of "classics," like red bean, taro, pork floss, coconut. However, what I really like about Six Ping that differentiates them from other bakeries (like King Bakery) is their variations on these classics. Red bean mochi, green tea red bean, tulip taro (it's a tulip shaped taro bread filled w/ taro), are all new breads I really enjoyed that I haven't had elsewhere. Don't get the egg custard tarts. As a person who has probably consumed my entire body weight in egg custard tarts over my lifetime, these are sufficiently worth skipping. Too much egg and a soggy crust. Boo. I wouldn't say that Six Ping has the best takes on classic breads and pastries (honestly, I'm still in search of the "best" in Houston that can compare to Taiwan), but their more novel breads are definitely worth the try. read more

The items I bought were beautiful and were as delicious as they looked! I bought some mango mousse cake thingy for my mother and she LOVED IT. ( I can't remember the name for my life, I'm sorry lol ) She is the worst when finding something for her that she'll enjoy. "It's too sweet." The only yummy thing I kept coming back for was the uber cute crab shaped bread filled with taro. I was in Houston for 2 weeks and though I dread driving through the ridiculous construction Bellaire had going on, I did not mind stopping at Six Ping for a cheap treat. 3 stars because- My mother ordered the 10 inch Hello Kitty cake for my little sister's 4th birthday. Chocolate cake with coconut filling... wait for it.. my mother actually ordered Taro cake with a different filling. nice job. BUT! my mother took it anyways since she didnt want to wait another few hours. plus we had a party waiting at home, 30 minutes away. so $45-$50 wasted. OH MY LORD that cake took us a week and a half to finish. They certainly do not cheat you in the coconut filling. young chunky meat. not too sweet. although this cake is probably more for looks, I would stay away from the coconut filling if you want your party guest to actually ask fro seconds. read more

Awesome baked goods that are reasonably priced and baked fresh daily. At the end of the day, they may have special buy 2 get 1 or buy 5 get 1 free specials. I especially like the variety of breads with all sorts of fillings. They have red bean, taro, mung bean, custard cream, white cream, chocolate cream, dry custard, ham and egg, dried shredded pork, BBQ pork just to name a few. And there's variety to the texture of the bread.. whether you like it "Q" (for some reason this is what Taiwanese people use to signify a chewier texture ?), with "bo luo" on top, with mochi inside, or with puff pastry.. you'll be able to find it here. Also have great traditional Asian sweets such as moon cakes, almond brittle, and house-made milk candy (must try!). The location in Dun Huang plaza also has traditional Taiwanese breakfast. On the weekends they also have triangle sandwhiches like the kind you can find on the streets of Taiwan with bread cut into triangles and stacked 3 times with intervening ham/cheese/egg/cucumber, etc. For cakes, I've ordered once and thought it was just ok. There was too much intervening fruit inside and not enough actual cake. But, I just took one ready made from the case and I could probably change the amount of fruit if ordered ahead. read more

I love the breads in the shape of animals. They're so cute and tasty as well. I've ordered two cakes from here in the past. I picked the Dorian shape with a white cake and fruit middle. The cake is moist and light and design is fun and made the recipient happy. I like that I was able to order the cake with less than one day notice and they accommodated wonderfully. Having grown up in the Chinatown area, Six Ping has always been a big part of my childhood. I'm in college in another city now, but whenever I come back home to visit, I usually get their milk bread (and sometimes bring a loaf back to school with me!). But I love lots of their other breads and pastries. Also, their little cakes (depending on the flavor, around $3.50 ea) are satisfying, delectable morsels for those of us who feel guilty indulging in a large slice of cake but are craving something sweet. Huge pastries, great quality, good variety. I was so happy to stumble upon this bakery; even though I had just eaten lunch, I was so excited about Taiwanese style treats that I still picked up more! Tried the taro tulip bread (giant flower-shaped black sesame bread filled with taro), the taro filled pineapple top bun, and the peanut rice drink (mi-jiang). Both of the breads were super light and fluffy, and were stuffed to the brim with creamy taro paste that was just the right amount of sweetness. The peanut rice drink was also the perfect consistency I'm used to from the breakfast places in Taiwan, and also with just the right amount of sweetness. Service was friendly and helpful. Good variety of selections - including sponge cakes, pastries, breads, moon cakes, hot foods, and drinks. Knocking off 1 star simply because the taro filled pineapple top bun could have had a bit more of the pineapple topping (who doesn't love more butter/sugar/flour crust?). If I'm in the city again, I will definitely stop by again to try more stuff! read more

I cannot survive two weeks without a visit here to pick up breakfast bread. Several especial favorites of mine are the Japanese Milky Bread, the Hardy Bread, Dorayaki, mung bean and pine nuts bread, the plain toast (how I miss the thick, silken toast breads of Asia!), the Taro star shaped bread and many others. read more
