After a 24 hour trip from the states, I was ready to check in, eat and freshen up. The problem was the place was locked up. All the doors were secure. After walking around the facility and ringing a few bells, I was ready to leave when a charming lady came out to greet me. After checking in, I asked if the kitchen was open so that I could eat. I was informed that they had hosted a festival over the weekend and the kitchen and bar were closed for a few days for cleaning. My room looked nice. It was a true local experience. Unfortunately, I was in loft, and we know heat rises, so my room was unbearable. I opened windows to cool down, but that let the insects in. And the insects loved feasting on me. Needless to say, even after being awake for 30+ hours, I was only able to doze for 2 hrs that night. I was ready to check out of the hotel and find a new one. I asked the owner if she could put a fan in my room and she was happy to do so. It was still hot, but with circulating air. I was able to sleep and work from my room. Very nice people. So helpful. The local town was beautiful. Short drive or a 20 minute walk. After seeing this, and getting the fan, I decided to continue my stay.

Breakfast was standard, bread, meats, cheese, and probably the best coffee I've had in Germany. For dinner, they had a variety of Bavarian food, all excellent. This is easily the worst Army hotels I've ever stayed in…read more The front desk is located at one building but your actual room is in 1 of the 3-4 different buildings in the surrounding area. And of course, like any other Army base, it was really hard to find this hotel--took us 15min and we were still confused when we pulled up to the check-in area. The room was crap. No elevators in the building I was in and the hallways/stairs were all tight. I looked like a fool trying to drag my luggage up three flights of stairs. The room was all hardwood floors and had no life to it at all. The bathroom made me feel like I was in a psych ward because the white tile floor and walls. I would also hear just about everything in the rooms next to me and the hallway. WIFI and cell phone signal--garbage. The room was also designed bad. I somehow managed to hit my head on the ceiling--yeah, try and figure that one out. The continental breakfast was okay. But it would've been better if they had NOT run out of plates, cups, and silverware. SMH. After I checked out, I was sent a survey a few days later and I had the same comments in the survey. It's been about 3 months and no response from management. So overall, just find another place to stay.

For full disclosure to the common reader, this is a hotel on an Army Base, exclusive to those with access. However, to those who do have access, it's a breath of fresh air. Spending an entire summer in hotels can be pretty expensive, so we tried our best to save in different ways. Air B n B's, pension houses and so on, but this still turned out to be the best value. At roughly 60 US dollars per night compared to a pension house in the nearby town of Hohenfels at 60 Euros per night, this was still a better value by far. Free breakfast, very strong WiFi in each room with no pass code, and for the kids, English channels on the teli. Obviously a must in their eyes! The staff were very accommodating, readjusting rooms to accommodate our whims and indecisiveness. Friendly and non-intrusive, yet accommodating with the need for extra towels and so on. The rooms are spacious, especially the family suites, very modern with decent size TVs and strong ceiling fans to help cool things down a bit. Even though they're on the older side, you'll never be left wanting. The Hohenfels community is definitely off the beaten path in Bavaria, but if you find yourself in this neck of the woods and in need of temporary lodging, you'll be very pleased here. Cheers!

The hotel is family run and they have a restaurant which offers breakfast daily from 0700 to 0900 and dinner most evenings. The hotel was clean, comfortable and neat. They had colored towels instead of the usual white ones which I found refreshing. The bathrooms need a little TLC. The bathtub needed re-glazed or replaced, and re-grouted and sealed. The shower head needed descaling. Other than that I had no complaints. It is located on the town Marktplatz (town square), close to multiple shops, bakeries and other restaurants. I never was able to sample the food in the hotel restaurant but the menu looked like it would be a great place to eat. I would not recommend staying here in the summer because of the lack of a/c. The town is quite as are the rooms. Konigstein is close to many popular places like Regensburg and Wieden but offers a quiet retreat from those very popular tourist destinations. I would stay here again in the cooler months of the year. It's a lovely place.

It has a casual feel to it because it is wood covered and doesn't look like a kitchen. I'm going to miss the big soaker tubs offered by Germany. The front desk staff is helpful. If ever you arrive on a holiday, know that the parade field is across the street and the parking lot at the hotel will be abused. You will have to fight for parking, so check in early. After that, though, location is phenomenal. You can walk to the movie theater, PX, commissary, even the gym, if you want. The gate off post is only a couple blocks. I wish breakfast had more seating, but the tables outside make up for it if you bring a jacket. It can be chilly, as its covered. There is a small playground and a few seating areas setup in the garden pathway. The entrance looks inviting, but the seating is not comfortable. Kind of a bummer. Movies are offered and there is a small computer center. Not many CAC keyboards, though, so bring your own. There was always a line when I was here. We were stepping on each other to check mail and access websites. I had multiple issues with security features and access. I had to bring my laptop to a keyboard to access. Bring your own!! Laundry is a flashback to basic where people steal your clothes, leave laundry unattended for hours so you cant keep the laundry flow cycle. We were shoved into a TINY little room, no fans and it was absolutely miserable. But thankfully since we were located on base we would just spend the day out.
