SIXT can cost you approximately DOUBLE the cost of firms like Avis, Hertz, etc but the quality of vehicle / service isn't proportionally higher :( My experience was while I was in London from November 26th - December 9th. The vehicle (a Volkswagen Golf was fine) but the additional fees (of which I was notified only later) were astronomic. It cost me as much to drive 205 miles with SIXT as it did to fly 9,800 to LHR from Portland Oregon!! To put that into context it cost about $11 per mile (or 8.1 GBP) Should you have to ask SIXT to 'fill up the car' expect again an almost 100% mark up on local London prices!! Lack of clear - upfront communication would have warned me off!! read more

Terrible company. Hired a car (covered in scratches by the way). Drove it for 2 days, 200 miles and got home to find an additional charge for over £1,000 on my bank account. Apparently , over 48 hours I had managed to rack up over 2,000 miles (that's 33 hours of driving time in a 48 hour period or the equivalent of driving from John O'Groats to Land End twice. When I challenged this they said it was an error and they would refund the money and email me to confirm. No email. No refund. I contacted them again and they had no record of the conversation. Apparently I need to email them now to put forward my query and then wait for the second level of management to review. Meanwhile, this company is sitting on £1,000 of my money. Appalling. read more

The worst experience EVER. I rented a car for 4 days from Heathrow Terminal 5. The day afterwards I was charged £7,603.34 on my credit card. After calling SIXT they said I had driven the car more than 6,000 miles when in fact I had driven it only 300 miles. I am still trying to get my money back. CRIMINAL. read more

Sixt car rental...beware! Horrible experience start to finish! In London the agent lied about the car we rented (and prepaid), said it would not hold our 5 bags and 4 people. The only option was to upgrade to an SUV, for an additional $3,000! After returning home, the manager in London did refund $2,000. When we returned the SUV, the very first thing the agent asked was 'did you purchase additional insurance?' (red flag). In 50 years of renting cars, I've never been asked that question. It's always been how was car, did you have any issues, etc. Three weeks later, I received a damage report claiming damage to the driver side rim and tire. I pointed out that on my rental agreement, it was noted two separate times that there was previous damage to the driver side rim. I disputed the claim and after a few Emails, they said they are convinced the damage was done while I had the SUV and they were only changing me for the tire ($430.16). The Insurance did pay and I'm sure Sixt counts on that. Everyone wins except the consumer! read more

Great scam by the company to make extra money. London has a congestion zone fine around the entire downtown tourist area and if you drive in that area you get a fine of about 90 pounds. The SIxt tacks on additional 40GBP for administrative costs. Total 130 GBP. The company spends a great deal of time when picking up your rental in up selling additional services or upgrades but spends no time telling us tourists that if y9ou drive into London there is a fine but you can go on this app and prepare for a permit to enter the area and that will prevent fines. They could hand out a brochure about this and prevent the additional cost to foreign visitors. Just so happened that we were staying in a downtown hotel on the Strand so we got a ticket for getting there and one for leaving. Now I am trying to appeal it but what a large amount of wasted time and potential 300 GBPs in fines. Also there is a hidden incentive for Sixt to not tell you this because they get a 40 GBP fee for each fine. Another upsell for the company. I pay £1100 a week before my subscription was due to start. only when I go in to pick up the car do they do any checka. ask me to call their office who are so unhelpful, hang up on me twice. So unhelpful and a waste of time and money. Cancelled my subscription. Have never had a problem with other subscription companies. read more

Sixt. The service is okay, I can't complain about that too much. However, as a corporate member, using SIXT on short notice, or now any other car rental company. SIXT could differentiate themselves, but they choose not too. SIXT will regularly "jack" up the prices on short notice which is understandable, but don't lie about it or blame it on low inventory when your facility looks like a showroom floor fully stocked. Then when I complain and ask for it to be corrected, they just deflect the question and it goes nowhere. Does the job. I rented a car last weekend on my trip to the UK via Terminal 5. The minibus was waiting at the pickup point when I arrived - and I didn't have to wait long to pick up an almost new Ford Fiesta. Car was fine - and the staff were courteous. They had the best price I could find at Heathrow at the time for an automatic car... My only negative comment is that being an off-airport site - it did take a few minutes longer than I'd like to get from T5 to the pickup/dropoff. Not really a big problem (10-15 mins) - but if you know you're going to be really tight on time - choose one of the other agencies. I should note that they've got a petrol station literally next to the rental location - with a barrier that lets you from the petrol station in - so that does save some time when you're returning the car. Just head for the petrol station, fill-up, and drive next-door. read more

Renting from Sixt was a nightmare - not even a manual in the car. When I brought the car back, there was no agent on duty to check me in. Now they are trying to pull a scam on me and charged me £540 for damages that I did not cause. First they send me a receipt saying that I had paid in full. Then a month later, I got an email asking me about an accident - which I did not have. Now, 2 months later, they sent me a bill for £540. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM SIXT! When I put this up on FB, I got LOTS of response from people who had similar problems with them. read more

Lesson learned--don't take the upgrade but get the full insurance! We had just arrived after a 8 hour flight from the USA. We were tired and the counter clerk sold us on an upgrade that sounded less expensive than we thought! Yep--should have reviewed the rental contract/bill better but it was late, we were tired and the print was small. Anyhow, It was a good car but it cost us double the price. You really don't need all the fancy navigation (google maps is just fine)--you are better off going with a smaller car on the British roads. So don't fall for the sales pitch. Anyhow, if you are a US citizen, you don't need an International Driver's license (just your regular state license) but I would recommend the full insurance since US insurance policies generally don't cover non-USA location rental coverage. Anyhow, long story short-we had our car broken into (shattered window and tires) and we had to pay a £1000 even though it wasn't our fault and reported it to the police. Take the full insurance--it is cheaper in the long run. It was by a tube station and the pick-up/drop-off service from Heathrow was very good. It is a bit of a drive to and from the location so plan appropriately. read more

Prices are fairly good. Drop-off after use was smooth and quick -- signage to the drop off area was very clear. Be aware, though. If you are renting more than one car, each car must be paid for by the person driving, not the one booking the cars. Also beware. No spare tires. Puncture kit doesn't help a blowout. If you happen to get a blowout, expect a 5 HOUR wait for their roadside assistance. read more

I've rented from Sixt in Germany, and had a great experience. But my recent experience at the Heathrow Sixt was miserable. We arrived tired, confused and groggy from a 10 hour flight. I believe the woman intended to take advantage of that fact. 1- She tried to scare me to buy their overly priced insurance (over $300), saying I would be personally responsible for $99,999 if anything happened to the car. I had purchased an upgraded policy from my credit card, so I knew I was protected, but she kept pushing "Does your policy cover windshields and wipers? Does your insurance cover tires? Etc. Etc. We were delayed for 30 minutes while I tried to get in touch with my insurance to verify my coverage. 2- They charged me $300 to take the car to France. We had intended all along to go France and take the Eurotunnel. I clicked the box to indicate that, but their website was unclear if I had actually done it. But at the counter, they calculated it manually, and I believe they overcharged me, but I was too tired to question it. 3- They did not give me an orientation to the car, what type of fuel it required. When I filled up the car, I assumed it was regular unleaded "petrol," but on a small sticker inside the gas cap, visible only from the right side, was there a "diesel only" sticker. I was never informed it was diesel. There was no warning inside the car, or outside the gas cap. We had to pay to have the gas removed and diesel replaced. They charged us an additional fee for doing so. 4- We were never notified of the requirement to go online to pay a DART toll. We assumed they had a DART tag that would pay such fees. A poor assumption on our part. They charged us 50 pounds for a "processing fee," not to mention a 150 pound fine. Good customer service would have warned us to go online and pay such tolls, or better yet, do what they do in other countries, and have the toll sticker. 5- They charged us a 50 pound cleaning fee, for a car that we left relatively clean. In any other country and in any other rental agency, that would never happen. So, be warned. They will try to upsell you and scare you into paying much much more than their low-ball estimate. Too bad, as we love England, and will come back. But NEVER will we rent from Sixt again. EVER. read more

They say first impression last and this has been in a positive way for me because my first time with Sixt has been tremendous with the good service received and the quality of the car given. The only slight comment is the £75 pounds compoulsory minimum excess even after taking on the additional insurance. In general, it has been a great experience for me and I would definitely recomend them for their service and quality of the cars. read more

A good friend of mine was coming from France to visit me for a week and asked me to rent a car for him so he can do some sightseeing without bothering me with driving him around the town. He was going to arrive by plane so I figured the most convenient thing to do is to rent one directly from Sixt's office located at the airport. It wasn't my first time using their services but on this occasion I was amazed at how fast I went through the whole procedure even though it was quite busy at that time. I didn't get to drive the car I hired but my friend said that he was really happy with how reliable and well-maintained the vehicle was. read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had. The website got me the wrong rental, not what I selected. I asked for a refund by email. They agreed and apologized. Then they changed their mind and said no. Even worse, they managed to change their first email to state they could not refund me, but I had made a copy of the original email. They're the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. They are ready to ruin their reputation for 75 pounds. Run away from them, there are plenty of better car rental companies. read more

Great personal service at Sixt Hammersmith. The Manager was really friendly and kind and the whole process went smoothly. The cars at this branch are really great and mine was spotless and less than a year old. The Hammersmith office is now at a new location at 144 - 146 Hammersmith Road, London W6 7PJ and the cars are next door at the Novotel Hammersmith car park. I returned the car by dropping off the keys in the secure key box. I got a email shortly after to say all was well. Sweet. read more
