I probably haven't been to a holiday inn since I was 12 so I was really curious to see how it was in Europe. The hotel itself is connected to a public underground parking which is very convinient. Parking is NOT free and costs 8.50 a night {special hotel rate} but they give you a special card that can allow you to come and go as you please which made up for some of the cost ;-). What I liked: Beautiful, modern and swanky, this is a nice hotel. It was just as nice and in the pictures and I loved the lobby, beautiful restaurant (though we didn't eat there), comfortable room and most of all the spa/fitness area. One of the best I have scene, they have every detail covered from updated gym equipment connected to the satellite TV, weights, YOGA and workout room, free tea and water, gym towels, robes, locker room with keys, sauna, turkish bath, relaxation area. I was very impressed. They do require nudity in the sauna/turkish bath but I still wore my bathing suit and just covered up with a towel. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful, I had them make several reservations for us which they did withotu problem and I was very happy with the housekeeping and details. This is a very great place to stay if you are looking to base from Villach for a few days. Wifi was free and was fast, which is great for someone like myself that needs to be connected. Also you needed a key card to use the elevator which was actually a good thing since the hotel/elevator is connected to the below public parking. What I didn't like. Not really anything having to do with the hotel itself which was marvelous. I don't usually stay at American-style hotel chains because they alla carte price everything so we skipped out on breakfast because it was 15/20 euros more per night {depending on the booking site}. We ended up going to various bars located near the hotel instead. Also parking costs were lower but still, it was extra. These two things are worth factoring in if you are on a budget like we are. Also for some reason the hotel's wifi didn't work well on our mobile devices. wifi was excellent but they give you a new code each day which can be kind of annoying if it runs out at midnight and you have to go to reception for a new code. Make sure to ask for one that supports being on multiple devices at the same time. All in all, I would say this is a great place to stay, really nice and very very central!

They were quick to help with anything we needed, for example making us food at late or very early hours, they filled our waters for free, and they made any accommodations that we needed. It also was their holiday and they kept the hotel up and running just so our entire group of 90+ people could stay there. The room service was impeccable. They were in and out quickly, but in the short time they were there they really cleaned the room. They left it looking great. They truly made it feel home-like and as comfortable as possible. Once again, the experience here was awesome and I would 10/10 recommend it to anyone going to Klagenfurt and they 100% have my business next time I am in town.

Two people were at the counter and processed my check in smoothly with excellent English. I opted to check my luggage for the first time during this trip as I knew overhead bin space will be limited (Bombardier Q400, regional jet). Jet bridge is not available here or Vienna for this type of aircraft, so if you gate check, it means waiting for your bag outside where it's 0 degree outside (when it's that cold outside). They have three flights a day to Vienna and a few flights to Germany (not to major hubs). The flight I took was 6:30pm and completely packed with business travelers. They have a small cafe before the security but nothing after the security. Since you are arriving only 30-60 mins before the departure, I suppose not really need a cafe here. Security personnel was so friendly. They actually smiled even when one of my colleague forgot to take out his electronics from his bag. She said, "sir you have too many electronics in you bag please?" with the friendliest smile I've ever seen from any airport security staff. Once you pass the security, they have nice gift shop. Some major name perfume, typical carinthian gifts... Nice size waiting area with free wifi. Most people quietly sat on a chair and worked. Wifi was pretty fast and steady, I was able to send several emails while waiting for my flight. Wait time seemed so short. Bathroom is located at one floor below the waiting area. A few mins walk, be prepared to walk and take stairs down. Boarding process was smooth. No jet bridge, so just walk quietly. Fellow passengers were such gentlemen too. It snowed the day before and it was cold. Some saw me standing without winter coat, in high heels and short skirt. They offered cut the line and let me go inside the aircraft as fast as possible so that I don't get too cold. It was such a pleasant experience departing from this airport.

I was told by the manager he could not correct the failings of the hotel and it is best we find another hotel and he would not charge us. And then he charged us anyway. So just don't bother. The place is tired and in need of investment, clearly badly run and falling apart.

Say good by to small minimal counter space bath rooms and enjoy your double sinks without Ritz Carlton prices. Just far enough from town center and all the hip restaurants/Casinos. Take a dip in the lake or sitting totally relaxed in the indoor spa. Breakfast on the balcony with million dollar view of Worthy See. Take a few days relaxing in all the small towns in this area. Make sure you take the short drive up to the Pyramid Cell Tower to have the grand vista of all 4 lakes and the distant snow caped mountains.
