The shiatsu massage itself was unbelievable and I plan on making it a monthly treat, it's so worth it!

I've never been one for being organised in my personal life. Making appointments or reservations?…read moreNever! I like to be spontaneous. Yesterday's inspiration was reiki, something I've been wanting to try for a long time. A friend of mine had her life turned around be reiki, and it's been a source of curiosity for me ever since. I was determined that yesterday would be the day I would find out if it was really all that life changing, but finding reiki somewhere at short notice proved to be almost impossible - until I found The Healthy Life Centre. The Healthy Life Centre is like being in my mum's house, but with more healing music and quieter people - it's definitely not an upmarket salon type experience. However, it is cosy, warm and soothing, which are all the ingredients you need for a massage/reiki/healing experience. My reiki (master?), Sam, was lovely, and set me, the newbie up very comfortably. I had to admit, I don't know if I like reiki after yesterday or find it lifechanging, but it did produce some interesting results - some of the questions asked at the end, and locations of problematic energy pointed to things that I didn't discuss, so I'm always a little impressed at that - and gives me a little reason to believe magic still exists in the world. I'll definitely go back again.

Whether or not you warm to the Salisbury Centre, and the workshops and classes it hosts, will…read moreprobably depend upon your level of cynicism about new age ideology and phrases such as "holistic education", "blissful healing" and "deeply transformative modality". I generally consider myself quite open to that sort of thing - it's the inner hippie in me - but some of the classes offered here test even my limits of credulity. However, don't let the more, shall we say, far out offerings put you off the centre as a whole, as it does have an exceptionally peaceful atmosphere and the yoga and meditation workshops I've attended have all been pretty sound - the quality just depends on the individual teacher who's running them. If you do want to "awaken the happy you" (who wouldn't?), "experience the light of Christ as healing energy", or even just find a decent yoga class, then check their website to see what courses are coming up.

The body therapist I am seeing for an injury, suggested going along and trying the Hatha Yoga sessions which would help my posture and movement. I signed up for the classes with Aishvarya Lila on a Thursday evening and it has been so beneficial. The centre offers so much in the way of alternative/complimentary therapies, as well as other activities such as pottery classes. There is a nice little organic garden for relaxing in and also a library open to the public. If you are open minded and willing to try alternative/complimentary therapies, this is a great place to come and meet a varied and interesting group of people. Highly recommended, loose comfortable clothing is advised if participating in any of the classes such as Yoga or Tai Chi.

A massage and complementary therapy salon in a Golf club? Well whilst it might sound slightly…read moreunconventional but it most definately works!! Set in lovely grounds the old clubhouse is a tranquil and lovely building and there's plenty of free parking. As you climb the open staircase and enter the salon you immediately begin to unwind... Entering a tastefully decorated haven of scented tranquility with nice mood lighting, scented candles and soothing music sets the scene perfectly! Each session starts with a chat with Shona to ensure she's aware of any particular wishes or ailments and also what to expect - oh and how deep a massage you want! On my most recent visit I went in looking like a bent over old woman (glamourous granny perhaps??) after puting my back out so was hoping for miracles!! I am a no pain no gain type of massage girl and wow she definately knows how to work a deep tissue massage, working out my knots and aches in a way which was still so relaxing! Needless to say I didnt just walk out with a straight pain free back - I pretty much floated out after some energising reiki to finish it off! Prices start at £45 for an hours deep tissue , swedishor indian head massage. She also does hot stone, Moroccan oil massage, Reiki and transformational therapies. I cant recommend this highly enough... Whether like me your body is in need of repair or whether you just want a little pampering this is just the tonic!!
