This is the worst school you can go to for anything. In my experience, it was their HVAC program. I went through 10 months of this program trying to learn as much as I can and I did, however in the middle of my program, they decided to change the schedule to where students only go for 2 days! Now they promised me, it would be all hands on experience but then switched it up to where it's hybrid, how does that make sense? I graduated in NOV 2025 and still haven't found a job thanks to their career service advisors who are suppose to have "connections" with companies. The former lead Career Service Advisor wasted my time and then decided to quit. The current Lead Career Service Advisor is just as useless as the former one. They waste your time in telling you to drop off your application and saying "oh we have an employer ready to interview" then when the student is ready to go, it changes to "the employer has rescheduled", what a fucking joke of school. Don't get me wrong, I've got interviews but through my own efforts, not the career advisor. Don't believe anything these people tell you. They will make fake promises and forget about you once your halfway through the year. DO NOT GO HERE FOR SCHOOLING, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THATS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. I really wanted to give this school a second chance at customer service because I am a former student and wanted to give it a good rating. I needed to get my official and non official transcripts from the school. I went the website to see if I could order my transcripts online, there's no option. I called the school, heard a ring like being transferred but it was to elevator music for 53 minutes with no answer! I went to the school and it was closed. The website states it closes at 7pm. Walked around because there were still a few cars there. I found someone that worked there and she was helpful and showed me which website to go to but when I got home and went on the website, I wasn't able get my unofficial transcript. Just called again today and yes same thing as before, elevator music with no answer. All of a sudden, I hear a click and I was disconnected. Very disappointed. read more

Use caution when picking this location. I knew several students and what I discovered was disgusting. Not all teachers or courses are like this, but the students were aware of nearly more than half of the class cheating using AI. Eventually it became too obvious and the students were talked to but no warnings or punishment was dished out. Several reportable offenses also occurred in which the SJVC staff did nothing and hid it. I know of at least 1 class where the students controlled the room and did nothing the instructor demanded. The instructor ignored inappropriate conversations as well as cheating. Just be warned that they pass alot if students even though their averages are well below passing. It's a money thing and they want to squeeze every dime out. A lot of the zero tolerance policies aren't adhered to and just covered up. There are some legal issues that were handled in the past but the school is still condoning the same problems and not reporting them. But, overall, I see students in other courses doing well and taking their training seriously. No attention goes into the Medical Office Administration program. They focus on the Medical Assistant and Pharmacy tech more. The iPad that YOU pay for does not work for the typing certificate you need, or the most of the classes you need. For Comp, you need to be able to use the function key, shift and control. It's not possible with the keyboard that comes with the iPad. You can not make your screen big enough to read most of the questions on an assessment test. They take away your classroom to hold meetings and move you to the back where hvac are. Then tell you a classroom is a classroom. How are we supposed to learn how to fill out billing forms when the internet barely works out that far or if we don't have desktops. Overall they just need to put the same attention in all of their programs or just genuinely focus on Medical courses. read more

I have MORE THAN 1 PLUS YEAR trying to get a hold of them for the RN program. I have the proof too since nobody ever wants to believe how patient I have been. It's extremely frustrating because I just have some simple questions but every time I get a hold of a random representative that ALL they know is the basic information to each program. They don't know nothing else. So they say "I can leave a message to the Dean of RN" or whoever the heck the person in charge is. And I have NEVERRR heard back. I left emails as well. On and off for an entire year. I was so desperate to be close to my husband and my baby since we're both new to Fresno and this was the only place I felt was convenient since I have credits from Carrington College and they are related. I unfortunately had to separate myself from my husband and take my baby with me to ANOTHER state. Like, I'm trying to make a living in this crazy economy and these people don't have any decency to answer anything. Maybe we're dodging a bullet by not coming here. If the communication is bad here imagine being in this school? I'll make sure to tell everyone to avoid this school just cause of those red flags Although I'm doing great in the school I'm in, I wish we were closer to my husband which SJVC could've provided that opportunity if they had freaking answered anything. read more

I've taken the respiratory therapy program here before and I wouldn't recommend it. *disclaimer* I did take part of my program during the start of COVID so I do understand that they didn't send us to clinicals in the field because of that HOWEVER it's still what we all paid for when we signed up and there wasn't any sort of refund. I think they felt as long as we got the degree we should pay the full price of the program, it's a shame we didn't get the education we had paid for. In hindsight it would have been much better to do this program at Fresno community college. I will say that a few of the respiratory professors were excellent resources but they failed to retain any of them so I also think that's a shame. All in all I would recommend you do this program at a community college. read more

The nursing program's staff are just horrible, they harass their own employees and allow teachers to bribe students to give them coffee in order for them to grade their papers and the two assistant managers are okay with it also as letting their teachers make students cry and say it's the students fault. The company allows the two assistant managers of the nursing program to plagiarize from their own employees work and get credit for it and they don't get in trouble when they are called out on it all because one of the assistant managers knows someone higher up. The two assistant managers makes another the employees do their work along with their own work, and the two assistant managers gets the credit that their employee did for them. Not to mention that one of the assistant managers had been unprofessional and allowing her friends and family to come into her office and decorate her office during work hours meetings to decorate her office for her bachelors. If I can go to the nursing program rating of its own, I will give it a zero for how awful and hostile environment for both the employees and students. read more

I am not sure why, but whenever I call them, no one answers. I finally got an administrator to answer me, and she emailed me about the Dental Hygiene program. I set up my account, and sent them my official transcript. Then today, I went back to log into my account, and guess what??? It said that this account has been deleted...wow! Just wow! I do not have any complaints about the instructors they were very professional but once you go into the externship side that's where I have a lot to say, This school says they are there for their students and will help in anything they can but in reality, they don't! I spoke with the externship director and she was NOT very unprofessional the way she was speaking to me was not right! saying I am a liar (not in that exact words but that was what she was trying to say) If I knew this was going to happen in the beginning, best believe I will NOT attend this school. Apparently this school isn't interested in getting new students as they can't be bothered to return phone calls. I have put in requests and phone calls multiple times over the last few months and it's always "an advisor will contact you" and then you never get contacted. I have reached out since September regarding a program and it's now almost January. If this is how the school is run maybe I'm better off not getting the information I need to apply. read more

I am thankful for SJVC. I learned what I needed to learn to get my first decent-paying job when I was 20 years old. When my life took a turn, I turned back to SJVC for more training in a different field. The instructors at SJVC want to see you succeed and I have found them willing to give up their own free time to help me. I struggled so much with algebra but Mrs V and Miss Irwin really took time to help me and I would not have passed without their help. You will not get that from a regular community college. Now I am enrolling a third time in SJVC to finish a few classes I need to apply to the dental hygiene program at SJVC. If the school was so awful, why would I spend my money to go back?? I would be the first person to post about it if it wasn't a good school. It will be what you make of it. If you do not plan to work hard to actually earn your good grades, then you will not do well at ANY school. If you choose SJVC, be prepared to study and ask questions and work hard. There will always be some instructors who are better than others , that is in every school. Come into it with reasonable expectations. I love the school and I really like all the instructors I have had so far. I have no regrets. read more

I just recently been looking into going back to school & thought SJVC would be a great fit for me since I attended the Hanford SJVC campus. Well, let me tell you about my horrible experience dealing with SJVC's campus in Visalia. For starters, the admissions advisors are absolutely horrible at getting back ahold of you. I just went in person 4 days ago to talk to Jazmin about the admission requirements to get into the RT program. I did the test that is needed for future students to apply to the RT program. When you take the test you need at least a 20+ score to even apply to the program. Mind you this test is for applying not getting accepted into the program which doesn't make alot of sense to me but oh well! I scored a 18 on the test & Jazmin told me she will email the head of the RT program to see if I can get a pre interview with them. I was told by Jazmin that I should hear back from her in a day or two. I heard back from Jazmin & was told that I wasn't able to apply for the RT program. To retake the test for applying I would have to wait 6 months! Thats absolutely ridiculous. If you're looking to go to school to yourself a favor & go to a community college. SJVC isn't a good school & just gives you the run around. read more

Worst place to try to contact! I called multiple times several different weeks to reach out to someone regarding different issues and a month later I still have not received a call back. I went down to the which was over an hour away from me just to speak with someone personally. Front office staff was very unfriendly almost made it seem like I was an issue interrupting their conversation. I have been calling for a week again to try and get an issue resolved and I still have not heard from someone . I drove down to the Hanford location which is also an hour away from where I live only to find the building looks like it's almost been deserted called the phone number again goes straight to the after hours who have no clue their hours of operation and has no clue how to speak with someone at sjvc. This place has been a waste of time if it's that's hard to contact someone to enroll or just speak to someone on the phone I can imagine how unorganized this school is . read more

The admissions advisor Mitzi Alcala completely went M.I.A during the admissions period, it caused me to miss the application deadline because she wouldn't respond to emails text or phone calls all of a sudden three weeks before we were almost done wrapping up my application.. she still hasn't responded to phone calls.. the front staff was no help as well.. unfortunately just like Gurnick I've heard from many people that they have had the same experience applying to this school.. if you can apply somewhere else I would do that first instead of letting this school waste your time. read more

I attended the San Joaquin Valley College dental hygiene program 10 years ago. It was a very rewarding and positive experience. The staff and facilities were top notch. Well worth the time, money and effort. Oh, and you will put in a lot of effort. This is not an easy program. The instructors want you to do well not only on the the state and national board exams, they really care about having high quality hygienists graduating from their school. So, for those of you that have nothing nice to say about the school, I take that as a personal reflection on you. Perhaps you want to attend a school that is free and doesn't require anything from its students. I say the school and staff are better off without your presence. Good luck to you. Amazing respiratory program. Graduated in 2019 and quickly found a job at a top rated hospital. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Bad reviews are more common to see but take them with a grain of salt. No one leaves a review anywhere unless they had a bad experience. Those who studied and worked now have jobs. It's an accelerated program, so study like it is one. Very supportive safe who are willing to spend as much time outside of class to help you learn. read more

I've attended the medical assisting program for over a year and it was awesome until I had an instructor named Kelly Scott! By far the worst instructor I've ever had. She's given me bad grades because she wasn't doing her job correctly and I have gone to the board several times and no actions have been taken. Worse experience I ever had attending a college. If you complain about anything to them about one of the staff members talking to you wrong or treating you wrong, apparently you are the problem and when looking into things they only talk to the teachers favorites but no one else and determine that's the true and try to say your the problem. No wonder why some of your staff acts the way they do and look like they are on crack or just woke up with their makeup from the night before and come to teach. Now I know why everyone was telling me not to go to this place for an education that it was a joke. Lesson learned. My prior college was even in shock about the way they conducted them selves and handle matters. Oh yeah and apparently it is okay for the teacher to talk about her personal life and all the guys she's talking to and doing stuff with. Also talking about wishing someone would offer to take her soon to be ex-husband out so she could keep her son and would still get his life insurance money. Talk about being professional. I say to her face if you are going to give me a hard time to come to school well I'll do what I need to do. Apparently that's a threat when I went to talk to someone after about it and nothing was done for three weeks then they want to do there own little investigation that only favored the teacher and I was the one at fault. DO NOT GO HERE!! They will take your money but do nothing for there students they favor there staff and half there computers don't work and all of them are so out dated. They want nothing but your money, the instructors there are horrible talk about them just leaving stuff on the board and leaving the class for a long time, career advisors are horrible there they do nothing for you and are constantly firing them. Not only that but an HVAC instructor whos married hitting on younger girls. Instructors wont even give you the right context or go over anything during courses thats in the license exam yet, they wonder why students aren't passing? SJVC was really the best option for me, because I'm a mom of two babies. As soon as I got the chance to speak with someone they made it so easy for me to join the school. The teachers at SJVC are great if you don't understand something they explain it to you again until you understand. Also you get to meet new people and you get to make friends. I was skeptical about attending this school, but it has been a great school journey with SJVC. After my program as a Medical Assistant AS Degree, my career advisor Jorge L bent over backward finding a site for me. He did such an amazing job. I was able to finish my 180 hours with a clinic. Unfortunately the site wasn't offering full time so Jorge was out there sending out my resume to every clinic that was hiring. Jorge finally found a site that was suitable for me and I am so happy with that clinic. Jorge is so understanding and so willing to go beyond what any career advisor would have done. I would hear from Jorge once a day just to check up and see if I have heard back for any interviews. I can't thank you enough Jorge. You have been a great career advisor for me and helping guide me through my journey. If anyone needs help, Jorge will be the one to talk to.
