Attended on a very quite weeknight and by very quiet I mean only one other table was seated, that probably should have been my first sign considering the BBQ & Hotpot restaurant beside it was full of people jammed into their premises. The atmosphere of Skara Rama was a little dull being an empty restaurant but the set up looked nice. I attempted to order a starter from the menu and was told it wasn't available, which was fine I could go without. Then I attempted to order a steak and was told that was also unavailable, so far 0/2 items were available but let's move on from there.
Thai dishes came out (slowly) and were fine, the two curries we tried were nice however the pad thai and fried rice were flavorsome, especially odd being Thai cuisine is one of the most flavorsome. Pad thai had extremely thin vermicelli-like noodles which were strange but the dish also lacked flavor and had a strong tomato sauce flavor rather than anything else. Fried rice was fine but that was it, it was pale and couldn't be called fried rice but rather boiled rice with ingredients mixed into it.
My dinner companions also ordered an array of Macedonian dishes (came out even slower, pet peeve of mine is restaurants that do not serve the table food at the same time, let alone 20 minutes later). I didn't try these but did try the yogurt and garlic dip which was a watery skim milk consistency and was told that this isn't how it usually and is usually much thicker, however, I am not Macedonia and cannot attest to this, so this shouldn't be judged by me. However, I did try the Alexander the Great Salad, which only included, lettuce, olives, tomato and onion and had missing ingredients listed from their menu of cucumber and diced feta which probably would of added a bit to the salad.
All in all, chances are weeknights are probably just not the best time to visit this restaurant as there may be different cooks or a better atmosphere. Although considering the vast array of restaurants in Canley alone I will not be returning to this one to give it another shot. read more
