She immediately let me know the things I was doing right. She also helped me with some issues I was having with my newborn including: --Newborn being up all night and sleeping during the day. Her tips helped the baby move into a daytime routine. --Incorporated my husband by teaching him to use an eye dropper and ensuring to feed the newborn only when she is sucking. This allowed me some MUCH needed extra sleep. I no longer feel like I'm in this alone. --Newborn wanted to feed for over an hour. The newborn still cluster feeds; however, her advise helped me recognize when the baby was actually hungry vs. comforting herself. This aided significantly in cutting down the amount of time she is up at night --Nipple discomfort and soreness. I have cracked and bleeding nipples. She gave me recommendations on how I can promote healing and lower pain. She also has a nipple cream in her arsenal that helps with recovery. --Newborn biting. She gave me tips on how to educate the baby not to bite during breastfeeding Overall, having Sima come to my house was a positive change for myself and the rest of my family. It took only a couple of days using her advice to feel more like myself instead of an exhausted, inpatient, and sore Mom. Granted, the newborn is only 1 week old. I don't expect her to sleep through the night; however, Sima helped in getting me 3-4 hour blocks of sleep instead of an hour here and there. It's life changing. Sima is absolutely wonderful. I will recommend her to everyone I know having any type of issue with breastfeeding.

They have weekly classes and get-togethers, as well as pop-up events, all the with aim of providing space and connection for parents. During my little's first three months, I attended their Mama Circles and their breastfeeding support group. Both of these groups were super supportive and non-judgmental, and allowed me, a first-time parent, to ask all the little questions that I had about raising a human. Plus, they usually had great snacks at these groups. Now, as my little is over a year old (cue sobs), I get to utilize their new space in a different way: fun classes! We've checked out their Bilingual Storytime and Rhythm/Motion classes; both classes were thoughtfully executed and engaging. Parenting is hard, and googling stuff on the interwebs just isn't the same as having a good conversation with a fellow parent who is going through the same ish that you are. I was introduced to Amanda Larkin O'Gorman when I was 6 1/2 months pregnant with my first child…read more She was referred by a co-worker of mine and though I wasn't overly familiar with the role of a Doula, even minimal research was enough for me to want to meet with Amanda to learn more about the type of support she could provide me during labor. From the beginning I felt that Amanda was a very considerate, capable, patient, and experienced individual and Mom. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I quickly saw the benefit of having Amanda with me for emotional support during the birth of my daughter. Not only did I feel confident that she would support me, but also be a source of support for my husband as well. I was in labor for 27 hours, Amanda and I kept in contact through the induction process and agreed when it was appropriate for her to be physically present at the hospital. Amanda was with me approximately 12 hours: 10 hours of labor, 1 hour of pushing and 1 hour of support after birth. During this time, she was supportive in every way I needed: mentally, emotionally, and physically she was there. She helped me stay mentally focused, verbally supported me, and held my hand when I needed it. Child birth was one of the hardest things I have had to endure, however, it would have been much more difficult had Amanda not been there. After labor, Amanda was available for questions per the terms of her contract and as a Certified Lactation Consultant, she made additional services available to help with the nursing process. Throughout this entire professional relationship, she has provided me with a variety of education resources materials that were very helpful. I am extremely grateful for having the opportunity to work with Amanda Larkin O'Gorman and feel that she is an amazing Doula who will continue to provide amazing, invaluable support to every Mother, Father and newborns she works with.

It was…read morebasically word of mouth that I was encouraged to switch from Women's First in Royal Oak and delivering at Beaumont to The ABC. And I honestly can't express how extraordinary my labor experience was. The level of care provided to me and my beautiful son was unmatched. When I was a patient at Women's First - I felt there was very little attention paid to educating first time parents and the overall care was very industrialized (even from the Midwife) it's basically churning out care and I have really heard negative things about the coldness of care at Beaumont. Without getting too deep into the details - I had a very long labor (30+ hours) - ended up getting drugs - and pushed for 4 straight hours. Every step of the way my hand was held by the beautiful woman of the ABC (Midwives Emily, Andrea, Danielle and Nurses Christy & Jesse) all supported me like family - joined by our doula (Metro Detroit Doula Service (a must) and my husband. It was difficult and unbelievable all wrapped in one huge life changing experience. We also were so well cared for after the fact in the wonderful ABC (we stayed 2 nights) and I really believe the success my son & I have had with breastfeeding is due to the great guidance of the nurses. I wish more women/families knew this is how your birth experience should/can be. I will sing their praises forever and hope they understand the valuable place they have within our family. It seems amazing care is rare these days. If you're thinking about the ABC you're in the best hands.

Exie is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about her work. I was shocked (in a good way!) that the consultation before the massage was quite thorough and did not cut into our hour of massage time. I hadn't experienced this anywhere else; the amount of time you pay for at Tranquil Touch is the amount of time that you are actually on the table being massaged. Exie was very receptive to what type of massage I wanted, any injuries I had, and what areas were causing problems, and tailored the session to meet those needs. She made me feel very comfortable, both physically and emotionally. I can't recommend her more highly!

She has a prenatal table with a cutout/basket to support the belly, so I was able to lay on my stomach for the first portion (at 38 weeks pregnant this is the best thing ever!) I went in with a lot of tension, soreness, and stiffness in my hips and low back (pretty typical pregnancy aches and pains) and left feeling very close to normal and tension-free. I've also had more energy all day since receiving the massage. The office is decorated really nicely - clean, modern, and calming. She played relaxing music during the massage and the temperature was very comfortable in the room. Her location is easy-to-find and there was a reserved parking space for massage clients just outside the door. I plan to return for a post-natal massage and highly recommend Exie's massage services to all pregnant women looking for some relief and relaxation. I'm already working with another birth doula, but if I were still looking, I would certainly consider hiring Exie as my doula.
