I moved to Sunnyside, Queens in 2015 and desperately needed a haircut. Naturally I went to Google and looked around at the reviews for local barber shops in the neighborhood. Skillman Barber Shop had great reviews so I decided to take a chance.. I'm so incredibly happy that I did. In the nearly three years that I've lived here, Mark and Arvin have delivered nothing but exceptionally friendly, professional service each and every time I visit, and with short hair that's about every 3-4 weeks. The prices are amazingly reasonable, I walk out of there feeling and looking like a million bucks but I think what I like most of all is they make you feel like a welcomed part of the neighborhood. I work in Jersey City, NJ and the girls (and quite a few guys) in my office give me so many compliments about my hair when I come to work with a fresh cut -- so much so that my coworkers who live in Jersey are coming over to get their hair cut here. Mark and Arvin make it convenient for me to get the cut I want, when I want it. i just hop onto their website, make an appointment online and boom -- In less than 30 seconds I'm all set. I personally hate not knowing how long something will take or when I can schedule something afterwards and by scheduling online I know exactly when I'll be in and out. They do take walk-ins if their schedules allow, but I don't like to take the risk that they won't be able to fit me in when I want my hair cut. For me, the choice is easy. I've never tried another barber shop in NYC and I'll never have to because I've found the best one right from the start. read more

This is a great barbershop! Mark and Jay are probably the friendliest barbers I have ever gone to. I have been there customer for quite a few years now and I have never felt the need to go to a new barber. Both of them are very professional, skilled, and talented barbers who definitely know what they're doing. I remember once I attempted to cut my cousin's hair, which ended up as a disaster. I rushed him to Mark right away; Mark not only fixed his hair, but made it look pretty good -- something that I didn't really expect after what I had done. This leads me back to my previous point -- professional, skilled, and talented barbers who are very friendly; accompanying such factors are fast, and more than satisfactory, service, excellent results, and great shows/movies on tv while you get your hair cut. I really love this place. I always get a great haircut from Mark or Yuri. You can watch TV while you get a cut or enjoy the great and relaxed atmosphere. The prices are good too, the tenth haircut is 1/2 price, which for me is great because my hair grows so fast. The neighborhood is quiet and convenient. Don't hesitate to come get a great haircut here. Oh and sometimes you can get a free bottle of water. Mark will give you his personal number to call ahead, so you don't have to wait, because on the weekends it's always very busy. One of my favorite things about this shop is the speed and accuracy. I am very impatient and hate sitting in the chair for two hours while some barbers yap all day, because this is New York; everybody is in a hurry. If they are super busy and you have time to kill, there is a nice coffee shop on the corner. read more

Everyone who walks in the door is warmly greeted and made to feel like a valued customer. The shop is always neat, clean and a great place to relax and get a class A cut. Even refreshments are offered to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. The customer always comes first at this Barber Shop. During a recent visit I asked for suggestions on a new style to change my look a little bit. I walked out that day with a fresh new look that I still get complimented on. Alright, so let me tell you a little about this place. I don't normally make reviews, but this one deserves it. Word of mouth works great, but nice to acknowledge once in awhile. I have been coming here for the six years when I lived on Skillman and still come here three years later now that I am in manhattan. This place is awesome. The barbers are precise, detailed, and often give good new style/cut recommendations. The outcome always keeps me coming back and don't mind the extra travel when I know the outcome will be consistent. My main barber is Mark, Arvin always gives good cuts, and his dad is the teacher of them both, so you will always have good options from the three. There is no "taking a chance" on this place. You will get a good cut. read more

Excellent barber shop. Good price for the quality. Mark and his crew do a great job. I've had cuts from Mark and two other barbers and left happy. Wait for Mark if you insist - and I don't blame you, if you do - but when you're in a rush, rest assured - the other barbers will do a good job. Just let them know what you want and don't be shy about getting detailed about it. They can execute. For those who may remember the Springfield Blvd barber shop from years ago, run by Mike, Mark is one of the original crew that cut heads the right way for years in the Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Flushing area. His shop here in Woodside/Sunnyside is doing it right and bringing a little of that Bayside shop's magic over here. read more

This is place is legit the best barbershop in the world. Everything from fresh cuts by skillful barbers to kind and gentle men who wish to make us look the best we can be. I've been coming to Skillman Barbers for about three years. In the past year I've been sitting in Arvin's chair and have been extremely satisfied with his work. Despite his age, Arvin has a great eye and tremendous style. It's good to see strong young talent in the barber trade. I was getting ready to leave after Arvin let me and and Mark decided to give me a quick cut. That was 4 months ago and I will only come here now. I love this place! I take both my boys for haircuts. First of all, you can book your appointment online. Whatever day and time is good for you. You can also choose which hair stylist you would like to book it with, even though they are all so skillful. Depending what you want, you choose the stylist. This is my third post as mark has them removed,. I cut my hair two weeks ago at this shop. The haircut was decent.... again not worth $30.00. Mark you are a nice fellow but you shouldn't be asking personal financial questions while cutting my hair. Went here a little skeptical because all my previous barber experiences were generally bad, but Mark was by far the best barber I've had, knows what he's doing and talking about, a really friendly guy. The place itself is pretty nice for a small shop, generally clean and tidy. Only got one haircut here but definitely coming back for more lol. I've lived in Sunnyside for two years and I've gotten my hair cut at almost all the barbers in the neighborhood. I finally got around to Skillman Barber Shop. Marc (and his crew) are the best by far. I took a risk on all three barbers in this studio and they all did an excellent job. So if your favorite person isn't available, don't worry - his or her colleague will not disappoint. I found this place using Yelp by simply looking for a place where they can elegantly cut your hair exactly how you want.
