My family (a party of 7) was craving Filipino food on this final leg of our 2.5 week vacation and found that 1) that there was Filipino food in Copenhagen and 2) it was so close to our hotel. We were greeted by our server and were sat upstairs which was decorated with a scattering of Filipino motifs and posters giving Jabby's character.
As a party of 7, we ate a lot of what was on the menu: nilaga, crispy pata, pork sisig, tsismis chicken, pinakbet, and of course lots of rice.
The star of the show was 100% the crispy pata. Crispy -- as the name suggests -- on the outside and perfectly moist on the inside insulated by the pork fat, this dish was left with nothing but the bones. It paired well with the available vinegar, but could have benefitted from mang tomas sauce as well. The nilaga came at a close second place!
Where I was disappointed, however was with the sisig. When it was delivered to us it was not sizzling and it took a while for the raw egg to cook as a result of the dish not being hot enough. The taste and texture was a little off as they did not use traditional parts of the pig (cartilage, face) for the dish. I expect that this modification was done to accommodate for local tastes, but for my family it fell flat, unfortunately.
Overall, our service and quality of the meal marked this place with a Filipino stamp of approval from my family. We left with full smiles and a full bellies. We even got to chat with Jabby himself as we were leaving, which was a pleasant surprise!
If you're in Copenhagen and are looking for Filipino food, please please please give Jabby's a chance. You won't regret it!
Take care and happy eating, fam!
