I've passed by this shop so many times but never gave it a second glance. Finally I was visited by…read morenecessity; one of my shoes was starting to "talk" by coming apart. This made walking around Copenhagen very annoying! There were four groups of ladies looking at and trying on shoes so at first I was mainly staying out of their way and peering at the merchandise over their shoulders. It's a roomy store but I was feeling anxious. When I finally found a boot that I liked, the man behind the counter was happy to find my size. I tried it on, then hemmed and hawed a bit over how tight it was.. he offered to get me the next size up and that was unfortunately too large. He mentioned that this brand tended to run a little tight but the material would give a little. While I thought about it, he went to assist the other ladies and I didn't feel pressured to buy at all. He brought me another pair of boots to try but I finally decided to get the original pair that I picked out. When I got to the register I asked him to throw out my old shoes, but first he offered to repair them. That was very kind; although he realized how bad the damage was once I put them on the counter. He tossed them for me and even went outside to spray my new boots before I put them on, saying that it might be raining later that day and it would protect the material. Excellent service that I have not seen in many shoe stores anywhere, especially not Denmark.

Terrible customer service and deceptive practices--…read more I ordered a pair of shoes and paid a high shipping fee. About a week later, DHL contacted me saying I owed a large amount in import duties before they would deliver the package. When I reached out to the company, they basically said it wasn't their problem and pointed to their terms and conditions -- where, buried in fine print, they claim they're not responsible for such fees. Most reputable companies either include import duties in the price or clearly disclose them before checkout. Instead, this company hides that information deep in the fine print, knowing that most customers would think twice before buying if the true cost were clear upfront. It is incredibly misleading. Thankfully, my credit card company immediately recognized the issue and refunded me in full.

This store pretty much carries all the top name brands of clothing and home furnishings including the Japanese brand, MUJI (first time seeing MUJI items in person). On the top floor of ILLUM is a coffee shop named Original Coffee which overlooks the square/courtyard of the Strøget Shopping District. If you are looking to do some high end shopping or want a great view at Original Coffee, check it out.
Summary: Department store with some interesting brands worth browsing. Slightly smaller but…read morebetter curated than Magazin. Enjoyed Holm's Kaffeebar while I shopped around the store. Atmosphere: Everyone's going to have an opinion on this. I would say, this department store is between Macy's and Sak's in feel (Use NYC as reference). If you're from Asia, it's a bit like a Sogo, with "cooler brands", but not uber-trend. Curated, slightly higher price point than Magazin, which I think of as a Macy's, but a lot of overlap. While both have a coffee shop, somehow I like the format of how they worked it in better here. Check out: Bags: There are two bag stores on the ground floor that are worth checking out. Veloris is a Denmark brand. Very masculine very leather. Not my deal, but I could see someone really wanting this particular look. There is another little separate purse brand. Quite structured. Worth a look. Lingerie: Better selection, particularly of Simone and Perele. I can't say it's larger. It's simply better curated. Other floors: A lot of British brands. I quite like. They had a few nice Dune pieces, which I had not seen at the other stores. Swimwear: This is where the store got me. They have two brands I hadn't seen at other spots. Relative to American stores that are all skimp and no help, the design here is more practical, even in the two pieces. Staff: I found everyone very professional and friendly. They stayed close to the dressing room area and were available for changes in sizing. This speaks to the organization of the store, i.e. the right number of people for each little alcove.

Terrible Experience It was a very bittersweet experience…read more(mainly bitter in the end). It started off fine with picking out a beautiful suit but everything after was very subpar and far from ideal. So after putting the suit aside, Francis put pressure on me saying that normally suits aren't put on hold without a deposit and then told me he would call me in the next day or two. He didn't but I went into the shop and spoke to Kasper. He told me to come in on Thursday (two / three days after Francis said I had to make a purchase decision). This also made me nervous about my upcoming wedding. I asked Kasper if I could go in earlier on Thursday and he said he would confirm with Francis. I never heard from either of them. Then I show up on Thursday and Francis says he doesn't have time and Kasper starts to help me. You can imagine I'm quite peeved that I was told to return by someone who could have helped me earlier that week. At this point I felt like my time was very much wasted and not respected. Francis somehow finds the time to sell me the clothes including an oversized shirt with the promise of tailoring (they were out of stock of a properly fitting shirt). He also quoted me tailoring prices of 200 DKK and the prices at the recommended tailor were in fact 330 DKK (more for the suit due to "hand stitching"). We agreed that the cost of tailoring would fall below my budget but instead I left spending 50% more than expected. To fix this Francis offered me "credit" but I find it very unfair that I'm being forced to return to the shop to spend it. I just want credit back to my account and be done with this (as you can imagine). When returning to the store to pick up my suit, there was meant to be a note regarding my "gift card". Of course it wasn't there and Francis had to be called to confirm. Please note that my shirt tailored by the recommended tailor ended up being too short and my jacket sleeves too long. When I went back to the tailor and he refused he made any mistakes. The look I was sold by Francis isn't what I ended up paying for. I'm very sad and disappointed that my wedding photos look as they do ... at least my bride looked beautiful. As an aside, I was offered 1 drink on the first day about 30 minutes into my visit. I don't mind but don't advertise a "come hangout and have beer" vibe. I also noticed how quickly others were offered drinks upon entering the store. Please note I wrote an email to David first and also asked Kasper to have David call me before posting this... Of course, I haven't heard from anybody.
I ordered a pair of shoes from Notabene in early December. When they arrived, it was immediately…read moreclear that they had been worn. The soles were dirty and the toes were visibly creased. I contacted customer support and provided photos of the wear. Their response was that the shoes were new and that by placing an order I had agreed to the possibility of receiving shoes that had been tried on. This explanation does not align with the condition of the shoes I received, the wear was far beyond what could reasonably be described as having been "tried on." I have now been attempting to return the damaged shoes for over two weeks, but customer service has stopped responding to my follow-up emails. If everything goes smoothly and no customer support is required, purchasing from Notabene may be a pleasant experience. However, if an issue arises, the lack of responsiveness and accountability makes the experience extremely frustrating.
