They have a manager that is evil. I called for service on a system they installed. One person said 100 something, and the manager (on another call when I was ready to service) said it was an amount 3 times as much! I was shocked and asked why? She said because they have to travel out of Portland. I told her the system was installed locally out of their local The Dalles office. She then screamed at me & hung up. Blocked my number across their offices. Wow. I've read other stories where a customer had the same experience with their manager, and then Sky sent someone to break his furnace. Look that one up on BBB. read more

I hired Sky Heating & A/C to come look at my air conditioner which was not working properly. The technician diagnosed the problem and said it had low refrigerant. Since Sky Heating does not service systems that use R22 refrigerant, they indicated that the only option they can offer is replacement. I told them it was a 20 yr old system when I booked the appointment so they new it was likely to use R22 refrigerant. They left me with a broken system and misled me into thinking that I had to spend thousands to replace it now. A quick check online revealed that R22 is still available. I hired another company that came out and repaired my system for me. When it does need to be replaced, I will NOT be hiring Sky Heating. read more

$1600 just to clean 14 floor/ceiling registers. Quote didn't even include routine maintenance such as cleaning the coils or servicing our unit. When i asked about the $595 setup they said it was for some plastic tarping so they didn't leave a mess in our house. They also did not disclose $109 fee just to provide the quote and collected it from my wife, who assumed i agreed to the fee. When I called they backtracked and refunded the fee. Does this company survive on just providing quotes and charging exorbitant fees for their work? First and last time I'll be calling Sky. read more

I spent $20,000 on a heat pump (I know I over paid) and it doesn't work properly! It's only 2 years old and every time the temperature goes below 32 degrees it stops working properly and I have to call for a technician. I've also had problems with appointments. I've had appointments and they canceled them without my knowledge. I tried to go with a different company but was told by that company it would void my heat pump warranty. SO now I'm stuck with Sky Heating! Do your research before buying a heat pump! read more

Sky Heating installed our new heat pump for one of our rental houses. They did a fantastic job the first go around. At our primary residence, we needed to have our heat pump serviced. Our first and only call was to Sky Heating. Will, the service technician was very professional and experienced. He diagnosed and fixed up our minor problem. We did not want to go through an expensive overhaul today, therefore, Will took the time to draw up a few plans/services that we can look at when ready to move forward. Overall, we appreciated his friendliness and expertise. Sky will be the company we will use again for our new future heat pump replacement and other heat/ac services. read more

Their tech came out and diagnosed a problem with my heat pump and said it would cost $2000 to fix. Refrigerant and 2 leaking valves. What?! I then paid them their $109 diagnostic fee and called another local company. The 2nd company came out and fixed the problem that same day (not at all what Sky said) for $550. My refrigerant levels were fine, (located outside) no topping off needed. They checked it with a meter. It was actually a motor that I needed inside the handler (inside my house). So, I had to pay Sky $109 fee for a wrong diagnosis that would have cost me thousands and still would have had a broken heat pump! The 2nd company checked the refrigerant levels and they were fine! No leaking either. No charge needed and certainly not $2000 worth of a repair! read more

Sky Heating won't help adults with special needs. They won't even come to the home. They have come in the past and they did fine work. We paid them and our equipment is fairly new, so we're not giving them any trouble. But Sky Heating now won't even come to look at the problem at our care home for adults with special needs. I asked why an the person on the phone couldn't tell me why. Sky Heating just doesn't care that adults with special needs that have no A/C during the hottest summer on record. Pleased with the installers and their hard work. What ruined our whole experience with Sky's is the failure to produce the paperwork to allow for us to receive a rebate. After many phone calls we were told they simply had forgotten and Sky's would write a check for the abount of rebate due to their failure to follow through. We are going on a year now and no check. Also, no call backs regarding payment. Based on this we wouldn't do business with them again. read more

I will start by saying I work in construction and I'm pretty particular about my work. I have no background in hvac, but understand many of the related processes. We did a full revamp on our obsolete packaged unit. Bryan came out and did the bid. He was professional and personable and took the time to explain our options. I told him my requirements and asked what he would do in my situation. He created 3 options for us to choose which made it very easy. Dave came and installed gas to the kitchen so we could get a gas stove within a week or so of us moving in. Awesome job! During furnace install Mike and Dave did a great job communicating with me and were concerned that the work wasn't going to get done in the 2 days slated. They got my furnace up and running in a day during December to save me from the cold and tidied up the complete re-routing of duct/electrical work on the second day, and also did an awesome job routing condenser lines out of the crawl space to a sink so that it wouldn't freeze and flood the unit/house. The ac unit had to be rescheduled for later in the month, so they could tend to other installs, which was fine with me, since they gave me a heads up early on. Overall everything went pretty well. If I had to nit pick I had a little issue with some obvious communication problems between their main office and The Dalles office but it was really minor. I'd definitely recommend them. read more

This is the tale of the worst service business encounter EVER for my 72 years. At our recreational home in rural The Dalles, Oregon, the air conditioning would not kick in. I called SKY Heating and Air Conditioning. I reached an answering service and was told I would be called back shortly. 4 hours later....no call. I called again, was told there would be a $109 fee for the visit and diagnosis that would be applied to a repair, if one was needed, and was given a visit time for the next morning. The repair technician arrived on time, asked questions, and then went out to the outside heat pump unit. After less than 10 minutes he announced that the problem was "a burned out contacter". OK, so what do I know, but that sounded like a smallish electronic part, hopefully inexpensive, that could be quickly swapped out. "The charge to replace a contacter is $353", he said. I almost gagged. "That must be a really expensive replacement part", I said, "or take a lot of work to replace". I was hesitating, sensing something going rapidly sideways. "That charge is set by my company. I have nothing to do with it." "Is this a set charge among all the AC repair companies?", I asked. "No. Each company sets their own charge." You could maybe find someone who would do it for, say, $200 but after the $109 you have paid us for this visit you would come out about the same." I began to feel that stretched out over a barrel without good options feeling. "But don't worry, it will just take me a second to put in the new part.....if I have one in my truck." The actual replacement was quick and easy......must be a REALLY expensive part, I thought. I reluctantly gave him the OK to replace the contacter for $353.00. He was back in 10 minutes, stating that the A/C was now working. "You might be a low on coolant but it seems OK now and we can always come back." Come back? "You haven't checked the coolant level?" "Well, no. Your A/C wasn't working. I determined the cause and repaired it and the charge is just for that." "But you have been here a grand total of 20 minutes and I'm paying $353! The unit is over 12 years old. Wouldn't a quick check of other components make sense? "Well, OK, if you want I can check the coolant level. Only takes a second." He returned after 5 minutes. "Your coolant level is a bit down. It will probably work just fine but if the cooling isn't keeping up then it might need topping off. "How much would THAT cost....now that you're already here. "$500 is the set charge for refilling the coolant." I declined. I really, really wanted to know just how expensive was the contacter that he replaced that, for 20 minutes of work, got the charge up to $353. I asked him if I could have the box that the contacter came in....which would have an identifying serial/part number. He said he didn't have a box but he could give me the old part.....which he did. Then I paid with a Visa card and he left. The part number is....3100 A 15Q 152L. I quickly got on the internet and determined that THAT specific part typically can be had through Amazon, eBay, and other sources, for $12-$20. And.....since after running for 2 days the A/C stopped working......symptomatically exactly as before the "fix"....I just ordered a new one off eBay for $15.....postage included. I then did a lot of internet research about repairing contacters. According to the national association of heating and A/C businesses, across the country the range in charges is $70-$400. In my home town of Eugene, OR, I determined with one call that the cost here would have been $132. So......after two days in my recreational home WITH A/C I left, and turned the heat pump off, took an extended vacation, and just returned to find.....the A/C is not working. I just got off the phone with SKY. The warranty for the "visit" charge is 30 days. The "new" contacter is still under warranty.....but since we are beyond those 30 days......there would be a minimum charge of $109 (again) to determine the cause of A/C failure.....EVEN IF THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY CONTACTER WHICH THEY PUT IN 45 DAYS AGO. Doesn't matter to them that the unit was turned on for only two of those days. I did not ask them whether, if they had to actually replace the "new" contacter with another "new" contacter....there would be the total charge of......$353. Bottom line.....this industry is the wild, wild west when it comes to pricing schemes. A lower "first visit" charge can put you at a disadvantage in resisting a much higher "repair" charge. DO YOUR RESEARCH BY CALLING MULTIPLE OPTIONS and asking questions about a typical or set charge for a common repair....such as a contacter. read more

Very responsive, they got my air conditioning fan replaced quickly

My husband and I have been having an issue with a sewer smell coming in through the upstairs vent, and when we had smoke outside from the fires, I could see it coming through the vent as well. We called Sky and Morgan came out. He looked at our ducting and noticed that the fresh air intake was next to the sewer exhaust and the gas furnace exhaust. This would explain the cause of the sewer smell, and the fresh-air intake was stuck open and was pulling directly from outside without filtering it through the system before bringing it into the house. He made an appointment to come back out and fix the system. When he came back out, he fixed the problem, moved the fresh air intake, and even fixed and repaired the ducting that we didn't even know was crimped or broken, all with a great personality, friendly, and efficiently. We will definitely use this company from now on and, if possible, request him again. read more

I waited nearly a month in 100-degree weather for them to replace my HVAC, calling them upwards of a dozen times, only to be nonchalantly informed on my last call that they did not take business from home warranty companies!
