I participated in my first skydive (a tandem) just this past weekend. As a resident of Kansas City, it was a bit of a drive south to Butler (about an hour) but man was it worth the drive. All the instructors are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and they make you feel at home from the moment you get there. All the information was presented in an easy to understand manner, and I never once felt confused about what was going to happen during the dive, or what was expected of me. The facilities are minimalist in nature, but you don't really need a whole lot when the point of spending the money is to Skydive, not to sit in a hanger. The equipment was well maintained, and everything seemed well regulated and documented in terms of chute preparation and packing, which is always reassuring. Once I was suited up in my harness, a short wait for a few other groups to go before us flew by (literally) and we were on our way up to 14,000 ft on a beautiful blue skied day. The whole way up the instructor kept reminding me of the training, and was constantly reassuring, which for me was unnecessary, but for someone who might be a bit more nervous about it, would be extremely helpful. Even the "fun jumpers" in the plane with us were being friendly and talking with all the tandem groups to make us more comfortable. I was the first tandem group to jump, a few steps to the door, and out we went, dropping at 130 mph.... You couldn't have smacked the smile off my face the whole way down! Once the chute is deployed, the instructor lets you grab the toggles and help steer you both down. He/she also lets you decide if you just want to float down or if you want to pull some stunts on the way down (such as corkscrews.. I did that, they are a blast!) Our landing was perfect, and post landing the instructor briefs you on how you did during the jump (e.g., your posture during the jump, your composure to the surroundings, instruction following, etc.). You get a certificate at the end of the whole experience stating that you have completed your first training jump, and they provide you with options on continuing jumping if you so desire. I have been planning on trying to obtain my A-License, and they have a course that allows you to achieve this. I will be back in the very near future, and I HIGHLY recommend SkyDive KC to anyone who wants to experience a fun, exhilarating, and safe skydiving experience !!! read more

I've been skydiving here for the last year and a half, and familiar with the staff from encounters at other skydiving events for a few years now. Very professional group of people with a very clean and up-to-date operation. And in case you don't know...They fly a KING AIR! That means a much larger plane than the little cessnas you see at all the other skydiving places in the central midwest. Bigger plane means more people jumping, faster flights to altitude, and an exit altitude of 14,000 feet instead of the wimpy 10,000 everyone else offers. Put that all together and you get about 20 seconds more freefall for the same amount of money. Whether you only want to jump once in your life just to check off your bucket list, or you want to take up the sport and become a skydiver yourself, THIS is the place to do it. My name is Sonny. Skydive Kansas City is a really great place to skydive whether you are a student or a fun jumper. They have a awesome staff and always make you feel welcomed. The Tandem, AFF instructors plus the all the coaches are all top notch and professional. They have always made me feel at home and safe. The King Air aircraft is a huge plus also, takes you to 14,000 feet in about 10 minutes. Skydive Kansas City is a wonderful, friendly, almost black-free environment. I can say with 85% confidence that I did not contract the herpies I discovered the following week at Skydive Kansas City. I think the man I jumped with is a pedophile, but I can't be sure, however he did make sure I had a great time. All of the staff are Caucasian by the way so you do not have to worry about any of them stealing your wallet while you are up in the airplane. read more
