First time experiencing Cincinnati Chili as somebody who doesn't actually like most chili, and I was not disappointed. The food was great (4-way with onions slaps) and you HAVE to try the chili spice ice cream topped with oyster crackers. This ice cream is the perfect blend of sweet and savory. But what really made my lunch so special was the service. Rita, our server, was an absolute sweetheart. She leans into the family-friendly vibe of this location and provides customized service for each table. We were in Kentucky in late Sept 2025, and had to eat at Skyline Chili! It might seem silly to post about a chain restaurant, but the service is consistently excellent, food is delicious and amazing, and we always feel like home when we are here. We wanted to try the new chicken chili, which is ground chicken (instead of ground beef) - very good - we couldn't tell the difference! They had a very small FREE sampler of a 3-way - spaghetti, chili, cheese. We were going to order one chicken chili cheese coney and split it, but our server, Jeanne W., said they had free samples! Food is always great, ambience and service is terrific, and I wish we had a Skyline Chili in North Carolina! We have canned chili available at two grocery stores, but it's not the same as dining at the restaurant. The service was amazing, my family and i dont remember the girls name but she had a bunch of pretty piercings including two nose rings and two black and white braids and she remembered our orders and read our minds, she knew when/if we wanted more food and if we wanted to go drinks, (she didn't force it at all, just a friendly suggestion customized to our previous order). We ordered chili cheese dogs and those were great, there was a bunch of cheese on them and the chili was good, my mom isn't much of a chili person but she still liked the chili, my parents even got the dogs without the cheese second to appreciate the chili better. The ambience was good and it looked like they were working on bettering the bathroom a little bit, some chairs had ripped seats though but thats to be expected from a fast food restaurant with pleather seats, the lighting was nice aswell. Overall the best thing was the service, my family couldn't stop talking about how amazing the server was and my mom wants to have the server as her employee. When in Cincinnati it's a must to try Cincinnati style chili. It's different but that doesn't mean it's not chili folks. It's Cincinnati STYLE chili which is served over pasta and has a hint of cinnamon. When at another restaurant we ordered chili cheese fries which I did not care for because it was too much cinnamon. I had it 4 way with onions....small. With A LOT of cheese but you can get less cheese. They give you crackers and the hot sauce on the table has a kick! It's clean and bright and the staff was very friendly especially our waitress. I wish I got her name because she deserves a shout out for putting up with a table of 8 women....most from out of town. She asked questions and was so engaged with us. Awesome! Plenty of options for large parties. Basic menu and I felt inexpensive. Table of 8 and our bill was around $50. Bathroom was clean. Full disclosure: this was my first time at skyline and first time eating Cincinnati style chili. Let me start by saying this is a very diner-esque place. If you're from MI, like me, then you can equate this to a Coney Island, but with less options. They start you off with some delicious oyster crackers. Pro-tip: mix a little bit of the hot sauce in with them and enjoy while you order! We ordered chili cheese fries, 3 and 4-way chili, and cheese coneys. NOW, something to keep in mind if you're new to Cincinnati chili. Their "chili" has chocolate and cinnamon so I'm unsure if it can safely be called chili, but it was delicious nonetheless. I very much appreciated that our waitress brought me a sample of the 3-way so I knew what I was getting into. Secondly, the cheese coney isn't really a coney dog on the traditional sense. The hot dog itself is quite small and skinless. Also everything comes with an inordinate amount of cheese, which can be good or bad depending on your taste. The chili cheese fries were phenomenal. The fries remained crispy underneath the deliciousness. The cheese coney was tasty, but she forgot the mustard and onions on mine which was rough. The 3 and 4-way's were pretty standard and adding the hot sauce elevated the experience for sure!! I liked the somewhat fancy Greek salad I ordered, which, when I read the original owners were from Greece, made total sense. Great service and good chili. We were greeted the moment we entered and picked our own table. A waitress came and got my tables drink and food orders. Another waitress brought oyster crackers for the chili shortly there after. When the food came it was scarfed down, like a garbage disposal. My wife and I went there on February 14th. Food and service was fine, but I found out a few days later that my credit card was double charged. Skyline had been a long-standing tradition in my life. This was my first visit to this location, and it was evident it had been recently remodeled. The furnishings were fresh and I loved the modern light fixtures. We had specifically visited to get the "sky way" three ways and both myself and my little sister definitely enjoyed the extra cheese! What is it about spaghetti with chili and cheese on top that makes me crave it every time I'm near a Skyline? The drive through presentation is sketchy at best: you are handed a plastic clamshell containing spaghetti buried under a heap of chili along with a sandwich bag loaded with shredded cheese. I feel a tad guilty adding that glob of shredded cheese to this already questionable meal. Somehow it feels that when this meal is pre-smothered with cheese, it makes me less of a burden on our national healthcare system. Just put the cheese on for me already so I can blame you for any health conditions I might incur from eating an excess of animal proteins out of a plastic clamshell. You also get a few little bags of oyster crackers with every order. This part I really don't understand. I've never been able to bring myself to add these little morsels to the heaping pile of chili on top of my spaghetti. Crackers with chili, yes. But I cannot ignore the fact that this is really spaghetti with chili on top. It's not the same. Toppings are being added to your spaghetti, and oyster crackers seem a bit too rogue. Maybe I miss the whole point of oyster crackers but I still find the 3-way spaghetti with chili and cheese a strangely delightful meal. If I'm pressed for time, I'm happy to find a Skyline since I feel much better about fast food from Skyline than anything made under a pair of golden arches or from a burger joint boasting of royalty. Don't expect anything spectacular. Remember, this is still a fast food restaurant, but it's very tasty and not the worst possible choice for fast food on the healthy side. read more

It is on National Chili Day that I write this review... this skyline needs some love. We venture over here from time to time because it is close to the boyfriends work. Two things stand out to me 1) the decor is so cute! They have Cincinnati themed murals and paintings all over the place. 2) the portions are gigantic. Had to try being new to Cincinnati area. Had heard about this place on Food Network shows. Not good. Got regular 3-way (spaghetti, chili and cheese). Spaghetti was way over cooked. Hardly any chili on it at all. Cheese was on the side since ordered by drive thru. Watery brown soup collected in the bottom. Not sure if it was from the chili or spaghetti not being drained enough. A Cincinnati favorite is Skyline Chili. Started in 1949, Skyline got its name from the view of the Cincinnati skyline that the first restaurant overlooked. After migrating to America from Greece, young Nicholas Lambrinides used his mothers recipes to create the fare offered at Skyline Chili. Now, Skyline has numerous restaurants and even offers groceries through local establishments and online. The typical experience includes a plate of chili and noodles (or chili dog) loaded with cheese. The secret, says devotees, is the chocolate Skyline puts in the chili. Personally, I barely tasted the chocolate. I even asked for no cheese so that the flavor would not be covered up. Hmmm, barely there -- a touch of bitter sweet. Skyline Chili dogsThe buns on the chili dogs where light, fluffy, and voluminous. I felt like they were fresh but it seemed like a lot of air. To me, the idea is noteworthy -- create a chili where there is a sweetening ingredient (the chocolate) and then add a salty taste (the cheese) and you have a unique flavorful combination. The idea seems sound but the execution was off, in my book. The chili was bland and soupy. My friends had the noodles with chili and it was obvious the noodles were not drained well by the pools of rust-colored water left on their plates. The hot dogs were not very large or meaty and the filler seemed to be the mountain of cheese piled onto the chili plate or hot dog. "Sky-high Cheese" might be a more descriptive name. At this time I realize some of you readers might be getting upset. Skyline is considered a local favorite. I wonder how much of that is based on nostalgia versus the actual quality of the food? Atlanta has a similar establishment called, The Varsity. The food is not tremendously different -- a little greasier. Most people go for the experience rather the quality of food. I'm beyond upset with this Skyline location it's unreal. I just went through the drive thru and got a total of $26 dollars worth of food which was 4 meals for the family. We get to the window and tip because Covid has been rough on everyone and I know business is slower than usual. The person working the window asked if we'd like crackers and hot sauce. We said yes to both. We then open our bag and have no hot sauce and ONE bag of crackers. How in god's name do you think ONE bag of crackers will be enough for four different people? Even if We got a single meal one bag of crackers is just absurd. What is this? A meal for ants? I couldn't believe it. We ordered through a delivery service and through a communication issue we ended up not receiving our whole order. After not getting anywhere with the delivery website, I called the restaurant hoping we could have the missing items delivered. Brian, the general manager, answered the phone and went above and beyond to make things right for me. He actually delivered the missing item himself so he could personally apologize. This is the best example of customer service I have received in a very long time. Plus, they made sure my coney was onion free. I have an allergy so this is a super big deal to me. Decided to try this place even though it's in the Invasion Zone (you know that sprawl in Newport primarily frequented by the Cincinnati ghetto/sanctuary city refugees. They come over here to make it just like the place they can't stand anymore. Please note: If you have an outstanding warrant or the police are looking for you for any reason, I would avoid this place. Most of the time I see 3-4 cop cars here at lunch and about the same at dinner. Fewer at Goldstar across the street. The line was moderately long given it was dinner hour during the week. Ordered a large five-way with hot sauces and crackers and two cheese coneys. The coneys here and most of the chains should be called "micro coneys" or "coney sliders" as they have become ridiculously small. Service was slow, the order was correct, the food was good. The crackers are particularly much better than Gold Stars. They also give you a larger quantity of spaghetti and chili than Goldstar. Turning out of the parking lot heading south toward Fort Thomas is taking your life in your hands because of maniacal driving and speeding. I had the most upbeat and friendly person working the drive thru today around 3:15pm. I thought, how refreshing to have someone offer such great customer service. Keep up the great work! I do have one suggestion. Maybe it was just the person making the coneys, or just a one time thing, but please add more chili to your coneys.
