The marina has a surprising number of services for yachties as well, even clothes washing machines are hidden in some of the shower/toilet blocks for the full-time residents. There is also a spiffing new shower block available for public use. If you're not a boatie, the marina still makes an excellent location for a flat, scenic walk or run close to the CBD.

They told us if you find these cool Gannett birds, it should tell you where the dolphins are. They divebomb the fish as the dolphins rile them up. We saw at least 400 dolphins on this trip and then we saw a whale, and they kept us out for an extra hour to check out a dolphin in the harbor. Great crew, that was very fun and you can order beer on the trip. Plus!

I have only just got into windsurfing and was looking for a windsurfing school in my area. A friend…read morerecommended i visit Pete down at Pt Chev- Auckland Windsurfing. Pete is the owner of this small yet very busy business. He has been windsurfing for over 15 years and clearly knows his stuff. He's an excellent (and patient) teacher! I had my first lesson last week in 20 knot winds; slightly brave for a first time! For those of you who aren't familiar with the area Pt Chev is a sheltered bay facing west. Its a great spot to learn. A beginners lesson for 90 minutes is $60 which i personally think is great value. This includes board, sail, wetsuit and booties. The first half of the lesson is on the land, going through the basics of the gear, plus learning about the wind direction and best windsurfing conditions. The second half you get into the water and onto the board. The strong winds and choppy waters were not ideal conditions for a first timer so i would suggest going on a calmer day, i still had a great time! In fact i went back the next day when it was calmer and had another go. After one lesson i felt confident enough to go out on my own . Can't wait to get out again! You can also rent a great range of windsurfing gear down there and also SUP boards. Highly recommend checking it out!

Despite the extra volumes of people visiting…read moreWaiheke for the weekend (several events on) the staff at Fullers were friendly and well organised, even adding an extra ferry to get us all there. A shuttle bus takes walkers from the ferry carpark to the start of the Sculpture trail - this is $5 for the day and can be bought ahead of time when you purchase your ferry ticket in Auckland which was very handy. All the staff on site from the shuttle drivers to on-site Art experts are very knowledgable and friendly. The art on display changes with each exhibition - this year's collection were all different and wonderful to view (and in some cases) explore. Despite the number of visitors on the sunny day I visited (the second to last day of the exhibit), it did not feel over-crowded and there were plenty of opportunities for quiet contemplation amongst the stunning Waiheke island scenery, and with stunning views across the gulf back to the city. A marquee hosted smaller sculptures, an event-specific restaurant, Waiheke island wines and beer and live music - a great place to catch up with friends either pre-or post-walk or before your ferry home. An excellent day out and a great way to explore our city!

A couple of highlights this year were the dog agility course and the runway - where you could select dress-up clothes and then walk the catwalk with the backdrop of the gorgeous Gulf behind you. There are also more traditional sculptures, and everything inbetween. I also recommend taking advantage of the guides, who can give you background information about the pieces, but it's equally nice to explore by yourself too. Bring your camera!

Luck was…read moreon our side as with no booking and a bit of a discount as we were from the cruise ship we were given front row seats on the last ride of the day. Sometimes the best laid plans are no plans. Our jet boat driver was a crack up and a pretty good photographer when it came to taking pics and movies with a gopro. We paid an extra $20 for the digital versions and these were uploaded to a dropbox so we could download them when we got back home. The thrill of 360s was good fun; watching and cheering the bungee jumpers from the bridge was crazy and seeing the harbour from water level was excellent for a change. You will get wet but your laughter will dry you off pretty quickly!

I originally signed up for the big jump but was told minutes later that the big jump location was on hold for high winds so I decided to switch to the bridge jump instead. The cost difference was immediately credited back and I weighed in and waited for the bus. The driver was pretty funny. Got off at the bridge stop and was amazed at the facility next to the bridge. There was a cafe, gift shop, restrooms and lockers? There was a bungee swing and a very short zipline running from that building. To get to the bungee jump I walked outside and up a short flight of stairs to the end of the bridge. Walked outside to the center where a prep area and staging zone were cobbled onto the bridge gave my ticket and in a few minutes I was waving to the unseen cameras. The jump was a bit scary The guys in the boat hauled me in and I was off the building. I was surprised at the quality of the images and downloaded them to my phone. The tee shirt is nice. After that it was back onto the bus and into town. The trip back was faster because I was looking at the photos... Amazing

It was so much fun! Dressed up for Halloween to do the bungy at the Auckland Harbor Bridge, and it…read morewas great! Not only were the staff friendly, you could choose how you would like to jump. I jumped backwards on the platform, which was a first for me (I have done bungy jumping before, but not at the Harbor Bridge and certainly not backwards.) They also put on my favorite music to do the jump to, which was really cool and fun! The jump also comes with a T shirt (they no longer do certificates) and you can purchase photos and the video too. I was very impressed with the photos and video! This is a must do activity for both tourists/visitors and locals alike as I definitely recommend it. It is also very unique, as you are not only bungy jumping in a major city (supercity) in New Zealand - but you are actually bungy jumping right underneath State Highway 1 a significant motorway, which the Harbor Bridge is actually a part of.
