Wonderful experience at Diploid. We were able to walk in without much of a wait. We got the smoked trout pancakes and sweet pancakes with some juices. Everything was amazing. The smoked trout pancakes were paired with some goat cheese cream and pink peppercorns that really balanced the flavor so well. The sweet pancakes had a really fresh whipped cream that wasn't overly sweet like some places can be. Service was friendly and efficient. We were very happy with our meal and would recommend for anyone looking for fresh brunch options. read more

I am about to give them a five star rating myself , making that 33 Yelp reviews and they still have a five star rating. Does that mean this place is solid gold? Yes it does. * * * Diploid is a Seattle style coffee house with a focus on American computer nerd style upscale breakfasts. They can give any coffee house in Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, or Brooklyn a serious run for their money. The coffee is great. The breakfasts are absolutely positively outstanding. * * * Diplo is one of the few places in town you can get a serious flat white. Their flat whites are Australian style rather than London style. (Creamy and not bitter.) The flat whites were up there with anything you could get in Sydney or Melbourne. I had the least interesting breakfast - which was still damm fine. This was a Japanese breakfast tamago sando. Super high, the way Japanese sandwiches tend to be. Super small and square the way Japanese sandwiches tend to be. It was entertaining and filling. * * * The star of the show however was my wife's breakfast. O M G This was a Norwegian Egyptian fusion breakfast. You heard that right. Norwegian Egyptian fusion. You start with dukkah which is an Egyptian flour made of hazelnuts, sesame seeds, cumin and coriander. These are mixed with enough flour to make a mix you could make a pancake batter with ... and yes ... they make a pancake out of it. The hazelnuts, sesame and spices make this the most savory pancake you have ever had in your life. Then they put smoked trout on top, with yogurt sauce and a poached egg. The yogurt contains extra lemon juice to give it the tartness of a traditional Scandinavian smoked fish serving. While the pancake is Egyptian, this type of flavor could easily show up as a Norwegian or Swedish breakfast bread - which could easily be savory with robust spices. How does it taste? Like out of this forking world! It was totally addictive. One of the reasons I did not like my tamago sandwich, Was that after one bite of the smoked trout hazelnut pancake combo, Nothing else on the planet seemed to be worth eating. I wanted smoked trout pancakes more than anything short of oxygen. * * * Just for the record though, the menu at Diploid is extensive. Looking at the other tables showed people were eating all sorts of exotic treats. Pancakes come in many forms at Diploid. And there are all sorts of American and Egyptian breakfasts if pancakes don't particularly move you. * * * Diploid draws a crowd. There is often a substantial wait to get in. While waking around, i found this little place, and it looked interesting. We tried it the next day for breakfast. They have a full breakfast like I'm use to getting. We got a little table in the back. Hard to describe but it looks like it's out back but there's a roof and it's closed in. Cute and very nice. We ordered the full breakfast and pancakes. We got our coffee to start. This was the best coffee of our entire 2 week trip so far. Coconut Latte and a mocha Latte. The meal came out just like we ordered with crispy bacon. These were also the best pancakes we have had while here. Good size and very fluffy. If we were here another week, we would be eating breakfast here everyday. The ambiance was really nice. Ŵe were In the corner. The service was great and fast. Everything looked so good, and it was. The pancakes were tasty and fluffy. The table next to us said the same. I will miss this place. Very cute and unassuming cafe. If you want to order to go, it is at the counter, but if you are sitting there is table service. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I know it is a very american thing to order iced coffees and lattes in winter, but they were willing to do so for us. It was appreciated. We tried three kinds of pancakes and they were all amazing. The savory with bacon and the savory with halloumi were perfection. A little sweet, a little salty, soft, fluffy and warm, my mouth waters thinking of them. We also had the sweet with carmelized bananas. Insert drool here :) The bathroom was clean, as was the whole place. If you are in the area, I recommend. Great brunch location that was open when many other restaurants were closed. When we walked in we didn't have to wait to be seated. We were seated in this small hallway in the back where it was hard to get the waiter's attention but there was a great view of the kitchen. A very american breakfast the breakfast combo, where I chose avocado toast (€9.50) with unlimited coffee (€3). This was quite a good deal. Avocado toast was incredibly memorable, served on a crunch piece of rye bread (I think) with fresh avocados and avocado cream and a small salad! This sounds odd but we were excited to get some greens which we hadn't been eating while in France (our fault). Also got the lemon cheesecake which was delicious (€4). Brunch ended up being around $32 USD (probably around 30 euros) for TWO breakfast combos. Compared to LA brunch this was a steal. I highly recommend and would definitely come back! read more
