SLATE (South Leeds Alternative Trading Enterprise) is a second hand furniture shop, opposite The Range in Hunslet, which is 'a social enterprise providing work opportunities for people with learning difficulties'.
I got that bit off the website so I wasn't un-pc about it.
Mostly I like SLATE because of the bargainous second hand furniture, but you have to go on a Thursday or Friday because that's when they get their new stuff in. On a Wednesday it's a bit empty. Also they 'sell' second hand Dysons for a five pound donation (ahem), which they put together from parts from broken ones. There's some legal thing though which is why it's a 'donation', I don't know, someone explained it to me and I got confused.
One time we went here when the minibuses were being loaded up and some man shouted either 'SAUSAGE! SAUSAGE! SAUSAGE!' at us or it might have been 'TOSSERS! TOSSERS! TOSSERS!', we couldn't tell. It was a bit unnerving. read more
