I got my first suit in here some years ago, and still wear the suit jacket from time to time. They have a really great selection of suits in different prices along with really good shirts and other accessories. The staff offer good advice on what works and what doesn't which helped me out a lot, narrowing down hundreds of suits to a dozen or so. They are also very well dressed themselves which is encouraging and they do know what they are talking about, which makes a difference. The dour-faced Scotsman in me opted for a black suit, anticipating a lifetime of funerals rather than the funky white number I fancied, in anticipation for Travolta-style nights out. Slaters is a Glasgow institution, and deservedly so. Spread over 3 floors, it's the go to place for suits (designer or inexpensive) - but their ties are rubbish ;) We went here recently to hire kilts for a wedding. The guy serving was great, talked us through the various options without steering our decision. The outfits were awesome, in spite of the fact we ended up being objectified by old ladies. When you hire the full outfit, you're supposed to return the shirt and socks - even though these are just shredded and recycled. Seems to me the customer should be given the option of returning or keeping these. Oh, and the wedding was awesome! read more

A friend recommended Slater. We got there on a Friday and explained the situation. The staff went above and beyond. They found me a suit and tailored the pants while I picked a shirt, tie and shoes. First time here. Always wanted to go as everyone recommends it. Mention getting a suit to anyone and this is their first answer. Just behind St Enoch's centre. Huge place. Walk in and get the lift up to the floor that will cater for you. 2nd floor does suits and all that formal wear. I was having to get a suit for a wedding this weekend. Leaving it to near last minute but that is the way men should do it. Walked out the lift on to the 2nd floor and started just clawing at suit jackets pretending to know what I was doing. When Instead I was really just trying to make sure I was on the right floor. I was spotted by a salesman who knew I was drowning, out of my depth. He was in quick. Fired me some questions, what was I looking for, Occasion and type/colour. Then he dove straight into getting me a suit to have a swatch at. Tried It on and I was happy with it. He took some adjustments for the trousers(short legs) fired me a time for when It would be ready. After this I was passed on to a lovely lady that dealt with the shirt side of life. Simple measured my neck and got me one to look at. Sadly due to my big neck and little arms things just didn't match up and they wouldn't alter the sleeves on the shirt. Not too much of a bother picked up a shirt elsewhere. You can walk out here with a decent suit for under £150 so it is not too shabby on the value side. Plus it will fit like a glove. Salesmen and women know what they are doing and give some good chat. It can seem a little daunting if you have never done this before but it is worth it to make sure everything is how you like and fits. Adjustments on certain suits won't cost you. read more

They carry a wide range of sizes and do not charge you a premium for the privilege of being a larger guy. If you looking for a decent suit or clothing that fits - this is a great place to go. The salesmen in this places are brilliant, fast talking with the Glaswegian patter and knowledgable of their stock. My favourite past-time in Slaters is to watch the long haired guys show up with their moms to be suited by the Slaters professionals. It is something of a Glasgow ritual to get the first suit from Slaters: they aren't quite made to measure, but they do adjust the fittings for the customer at no cost, even asking whether sir would prefer turn-ups. The sales staff are not unctuous or dismissive, but I did get a very nice suit from here once, that was way too big for me. I know it was my own fault for not making a fuss, but I was young and thought suits were meant to be a bit baggy. It was lovely material, though, and never seemed to wear out. Eventually, I lost weight and gave it to a charity shop, but I still miss the feel of the trousers. I wouldn't go to Slaters for a fashionable suit, only one that is hard-wearing and classic in design. Despite being over three floors, they don't have that much choice in styles- doubtless because they stock all sizes. But it is cheap enough and a step up from hitting Oxfam, my usual menswear shop. read more

Hired a kilt for my son. Initially quite happy with the service as all the details were taken and paid for over 2 months in advance. Received an e-mail when the items came in. Went to the shop to pick them up and although I was being served by someone who looked fairly busy and wasn't giving me much attention I still managed to satisfy myself that everything fitted OK. Wasn't overly enamoured by the condition of the shirt and shoes received but after we washed and ironed the shirt and polished the shoes they were acceptable. It was when I returned the outfit that I ran in to bother. Firstly, it took the staff (And this was the departmental manager) over 5 minutes to find my paperwork. When they did they then told me that the belt for the kilt was missing. I replied that I hadn't received a belt and had not ordered one - My son was wearing the waistcoat and had no need for a belt. I was told by the department manager that it should have been in the bag. I replied that it wasn't and could 100% guarantee that I had not received it. At this point all the departmental manager could do was to keep reiterating that there should have been a belt and I would have to pay for it. No amount of assurances for me would suffice nor did he offer to look in to the matter. All he could say was that it was marked off in their paperwork. Incidentally, this was paperwork that I had not seen before and consisted of a checklist of items, I certainly had not been given that or been asked to sign out items. In a very busy shop in front of customers and my son I was being treated like a thief and a liar. No matter what I said the departmental manager continued to look sideways at me and continue with telling me I would need to pay. At one point he even said that he lived nearby me and he could drive round and pick up the belt!! Again, absolutely astonished by his behaviour. I was eventually asked to sign my paperwork and I made a point of signing that I was being forced to sign for the lack of a belt that I had not received. I have been shopping in Slater's for over 30 years and would never have thought about going elsewhere for shirts, ties or suits, but I'm afraid now that I will no longer give them any custom and I would advise anyone to steer clear and/or at least double check every item that you are booking out. read more

The speediest and best service I've witnessed anywhere. We entered and were greeted right away.....with the awkward phrase "I'm looking for a suit" met with some humour at the door. Quick as flash, waist measured, jacket fitted. Bosh! Out the door in 30 mins. Tops. Cracking suit as well. read more

I shopped there once - and NEVER again. The selection of suits is massive. The quality is dire. Out of the ENTIRE store - I found only one suit that was reasonable, restrained and wearable. Added to which they are measured for a Scottish figure (short and fat) - so if, like me, you are tall and medium build you will find difficulty getting trousers to fit with a jacket that is not way too big. The accompanying shirt to match was poor quality (only realised once it was washed). Their only saving grace is the ability to do adjustments on-site within a couple of hours. Prices may not be high - but neither is the quality. This is the Lidl of the tailoring world. read more

I don't wear men's suits myself, but whenever my Dad needs a suit for something, Slater is the first port of call. It has built up a cracking reputation for being the best tailor in men's suits and evening wear in Glasgow, whatever your budget. My Dad recently needed a suit for a funeral and rang Slater with what he needed at short notice. When he went into the shop later that day, they had a few options set out for him to try on. I thought this was an excellent service, especially since putting together a suit and shirt can take a wee while. For the suit he got, with shirt included, the price was incredibly competitive, and he will probably get a lifetimes wear out of it. read more

Although the name suggests that Slaters cater for men only, which indeed they do very well they also cater for women. Tailor made suits in a wide selection of materials can be bought from this store. Every individual is measured by a specialist (all of the staff are extremely approachable and friendly) and aided throughout the buying process. A must visit for men and women who want an extremely well fitted suit and shirts. They also sell shoes and other accessories. Pricing is very good for the quality you receive. read more

Slaters is loacted just behind the back of the St Enoch's centre and caters mainly for Men but they also have one floor for women.I guess most people would go here if they were looking for a tailor made suit but they also stock alot of clothes in all styles for men upto a xxxxl and shoe sizes upto a 16.Staff are very friendly and make sure they find you exactly what your looking for.Prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of the clothes and the friendliness of the staff.If your just buying clothes and not having a suit amde to measure they also have an alterations department which alter your items very quickly and notify you as soon as they are ready. read more

Hubby always gets his suits from slaters and ok they might not be built to last forever but as they are reasonably priced you can always pick another one up.i like most partners,wives and mothers have to pick most of hubby's clothes so I always go with him to slaters and what aways makes me chuckle is the sales assistant always directs the questions at the spouse and if you look round the store you will see it is the spouse who makes the final decision on the purchases.it is a great institution with great service. read more
