Brought in a gas tank to have it hot tank dipped and sealed. Not many people do this anymore where I live. I carefully explained what I wanted, and he totally understood, and we agreed on $80 fee.
Complete rip off. Not only did he NOT dip the gas tank, as evidenced by the tank still being dusty, dirty and all the paint still on it, he lied about this. He said not all hot tanks will clean it the way I expect. Problem with this, is that I have done the work myself in years past. Caustic Soda hot tanks WILL bring everything back to bare steel. No question on this. It is a complete fabrication to deny that process. Then, he only dripped in perhaps two cups of sealant, when we both discussed that the entire interior of the tank will be sealed. The rest of the interior of the tank will likely start rusting due to high ethanol blends in California gas, and it is also likely that the scab of sealant he did put in will un-adhere and float around in there.
When I questioned him on his process and methods, he became strongly defensive, accusing me of making him out to be a liar. I told him he actually caused more work for me than helping, and told him I wasn't paying him anything, in fact, he should pay me for wasting my time and having to take it somewhere else to overcome his bad workmanship. At this, he threatened to call the police, and took the tank back off the work bench and stood between me and the tank.
You know what? He is a liar. And an incompetent fool when it comes to this. But I needed my gas tank, and was tired of wasting my time. You know very well the police would maybe arrive sometime later that day, right? How much time would I waste then? And they'd probably label it a civil suit matter, not a warranting a police response. So I paid that Okie rat bastard just so I could keep moving forward.
