    Before the slurp
    Ron W.

Look past the sophomoric name. (Why not call it Susuru Ramen which is slurp in Japanese?) Or even Bombin' Ramen is a better name. Just a thought. What ever. This place is tucked into a strip mall like everything else in Buena Park which is the red headed step sister of Anaheim. Buena Park panders to the tourist trade who's Piggy Bank is not large enough to buy a Family Pass at Disneyland. Thankfully, Knott's Berry Farm does not sell ears. Buena Park has grown like a weed since Cordelia Knott began making Fried Chicken and fresh Boysenberry Pie for Sunday Dinner every week. Ah, here's to the good ole days when Fried Chicken might have been actually good for you. Slurpin' Ramen is a mini chain and one of 6 Ramen shops in Buena Park. This authentic soup spot is wedged in between a Cigar store and a Supercuts Hair Salon so you can get a Buzz cut before slurpin' and enjoy a Padron Perfecto after. Life is good, no? Wander inside and a Server will smile at you and then motion toward one of three long High Tops with backless metal stools requiring you to slurp, burp and bolt before your legs go numb and your L4-5 disc starts to ache. The dining room reminds me of eating lunch at a California Youth Authority Facility. But, you didn't come for the art work on the walls and cushy chairs, you came for a soulful bowl full of good and hot Ramen. There's no time to make a nest as the Server will be standing next to you ready to take your order. No dawdling here, it's all Ramen business. So, poke at the pictures on the computer monitor screen or ask for the Baby Boomer's laminated menu. There are four types of Ramen with gradients of spice level, appropriate add-ons and ins, a list of Appetizers and side dishes to fill out the Soup choices. The Ramen on it's own should be enough to have you slow waddle to your whip after paying the bill. The 16 oz Bowl is more than sufficient. I couldn't decide as the nice Server hovered. Finally, I blurted out "I'd like the Slurpin' Ramen Bowl Spicy style with Chicken". Whew, thank God that's over with. The Server trotted off to the kitchen to have the Team create my wading pool of Soup. The Ramen arrived shortly. The Broth was rich and opaque from emulsification during at least a 12 hour boil off. The Collagen in the bones melted into the Soup base giving it a milky appearance and delicious taste. The Broth was excellent and just spicy enough to get your eyebrows to sweatin'. The Tonkatsu (pork) Broth also had Garlic, Black Garlic, Nori and Scallions. The Nori sheet stuck straight up out of the bowl. Eat that first before it goes mushy. A clump of hand made fresh thin noods was submerged waiting for your chopsticks to gather up a tangle. Two substantial slabs of tender fatless Chicken breasts also lurk just under the surface where the sliced scallions are resting. The Chicken was perfect. No cartilage, sinew, mystery chew to deal with. Just pure Chicken that tasted like pure Chicken. While there was a laundry list of extras to have the kitchen toss into the bowl I opted to enjoy this treat neat. The main ingredient was the beautiful Broth. Mea culpa. I also did something I had no business doing. Giving into an impulse and temptation. To wit; an order of Sesame Chicken whihc was nothing more than garden variety Chicken Nuggets that came stacked up in a generous mound. Sweet Chili Sauce and a watery Aioli shared a cup to dip a bite into. The Chicken was over cooked. The batter was tasteless, although it might have been crisp just out of the fryer. The Chickie Knobs lingered too long in the hot oil. The crust was bendable and chewy instead of crunchy. While the Nuggies arrived screamin' hot (temp) the meat was dry and lacked anything a Chicken would have been proud of. Therefore, I'd recommend the Chicken in this dish should cross the road...and stay there. All things considered Slurpin' Ramen got the Ramen right and it might just be the best Ramen out of the 5 other Ramen options in Buena Park.

They're located in the same shopping center that Claim Jumpers is in and right next to Knott's Berry Farm. They have a lunch special that brings the original ramen down to $18.50, but be aware that you are required to order a starter with this special. The least expensive starter is $5, which isn't bad. The special also comes with a side salad with greens, cabbage, corn and miso dressing. The broth was really good! I did a spice level 1 which gave just a hint of heat. The noodles were good, but not as good as the broth. It came with 3 pieces of chashu. We beat the late lunch rush. There are 2 bar tops and then a couple long tables plus 2 outdoor tables. There was only 1 employee working out front while everyone else was in the kitchen.

Always my go to ramen spot !! Especially after Anime Expo - thank you staff, always a pleasant time with friends and family.

This ramen spot is an absolute gem. From the first sip of broth to the last bite of noodles, everything was packed with rich, authentic flavor. The toppings were fresh and generous, especially the tender chashu that practically melted in my mouth. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a comforting bowl. Service was quick and friendly, adding to the overall great experience. If you're craving truly delicious ramen, this place does not disappoint. I'll definitely be back for another bowl! Be prepared to wait about 1/2 to 1 hr on cold days, or busy nights. Check in on Yelp to get free toppings.

The food is so good and the atmosphere is great! My family ordered gyoza and the small ramen, perfect after a day at Knott's. The staff is also super friendly

I really wanted to like this ramen place, but unfortunately it fell short for me. I ordered the chicken ramen and was surprised that it only came with noodles, broth and a single piece of chicken, no vegetables at all. If you want veggies, you have to pay extra, which was disappointing and made the bowl feel incomplete. The ramen itself didn't taste bad, the broth and noodles were ok. The bulgogi egg rolls were okay, but not very great, and the fried rice was also just average. Overall, nothing was terrible, but nothing really stood out either. Location is clean and customer service is good.

Was looking for a good ramen plan nearby and Yelp had this place at a 4/5 stars so I wanted to check it out. FOOD The ramen did not disappoint. I got the Tonkotsu Pork Broth Ramen with chicken and a #2 spice level. My broth was rich and flavorful. The portion size was nice, and the spice level was just right. We also tried the bulgogi eggrolls which were delicious and a nice portion size for an appetizer. SERVICE Our server was cool, he answered our questions that we had. The food came out in a nice amount of time. The prices were inexpensive for the quality of what we got, especially with the restaurant being so close to Knotts. That was refreshing. AMBIANCE It was a chill environment with shared seating at long tables. I was casually dressed and it was perfect for that. My friend and I sat for a very long time catching up and didn't feel rushed to leave even after we'd eaten. There were people coming and going with plenty of spaces to sit so no one had to wait to be seated, and we had plenty of space to have a private conversation comfortably. HONORABLE MENTION The menu was VERY confusing. I had to ask my waiter to explain how to order 3 different times. He explained how the menu worked each time but it definitely needs to be restructured visually so it's less complicated to navigate. My friend with me also didn't understand how it worked so that says a lot. Overall good eats in a chill environment. If you're in the Knotts area and want some good ramen at a good price check this place out

Highly recommend Slurpin Ramen! I ordered the lunch special, available 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM; this included house salad, choice of appetizers, and regular ramen (choice of broth). All of the dishes came out quickly and had great flavor. One tip, the regular size ramen is a large portion, so don't be afraid to ask for a takeaway container if you can't finish the bowl. This is a popular spot so there maybe a wait for seating.

Had high hopes for this place because everything looked so good but after seeing how limited the menu option with only pork and veggie broth it was a bit disappointing especially the toppings such as eggs, they would have to be and additional $3 when ramen is supposed to come with eggs. It would make more sense to come with 1 egg and additional a charge for more. Service was nice it was a self ordering tablet, the place was small but very homey. Have I been to better? Yes but if your looking for just any ramen I say this is an okay spot

Off the bat, this place has a cozy and welcoming vibe -- small shop, but plenty of seating. The staff were friendly and super helpful when I asked about their lunch deal (11 AM - 3 PM) -- great value if you want to add an appetizer. I ordered the regular Slurpin' Ramen and Sesame Chicken, which came with a side salad. Everything was delicious -- the sesame chicken with the sauce on the side was perfect, and the ramen hit the spot. Wait times were smooth, with each dish coming out right on time. Only note: the ramen doesn't include an egg, so be sure to order that separately. Overall, great service, flavorful food, and a chill spot to enjoy a quality ramen bowl. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Service was great and food was delicious! Highly recommend the lunch special if you're able to get it so you can try appetizers. Flavorful broth, yummy chashu and you can select your spice level + toppings. Bar style seating but really enjoyed the clean and simple decor. Will definitely be back!

Came to this location during a staycation on 3/7. Amazing ramen spot! Definitely worth the wait. I got the chashu regular slurpin ramen. The broth super flavorful, noodles were al dente, and the egg perfectly seasoned. Service was great, attentive staff, always checked on us and was easy to flag down if we needed anything.

Restaurant quality just hasn't been the same, but that is not the case here. Over the years their team has continued to offer delicious food and a nice casual dining experience. The store is small and cozy, so not great for parties larger than 4, though I'd really just suggest 2. Great for lunch or a low key dinner, it is one of my go-to for ramen spots. I really love their white miso tsukemen, the thick noodles are slightly chilled and served with a wedge of lime which is a nice way to lighten the very rich broth. I've had their red miso before but its deeper flavor is a bit too powerful for my taste, so for those who like something with more umph, that's a great choice as well.

We would drive here every other year for their delicious fried tofu appetizer and other fresh and hot items. It was a wonderful experience and a great intro to Japanese cuisine. However, the quality and control have gone down as another reviewer has mentioned. Will be our last time. 1. Food was a bit salty for both ramens bowls. They ran out of the lobster tail and the ribs bowls, which is fine on Valentine's Day. However, they also ran out of basic ingredients. Where are the 2 egg slices, and where are the other fresh garnishes (mushroom or bean sprouts). One of the saddest looking and basic ramen bowls that I've ever experienced, one level above instant ramen (just the pork and excess noodles). Speaking of pork slices, they need to be less firm and softer. They also ran out of wooden spoons. How? We ate with take-out chopsticks with no available plastic spoons. Who is running this branch? 2. Service was standard. 3. Ambiance has nicely decorated theme. However, restaurant and seating area is small and crosse crossed and lacks privacy. I usually come here for ramen, but what makes this place work really well for us is that my girlfriend isn't a big ramen person, and their sushi and rolls are actually good too. So it ends up being one of those rare places where both of us are happy with what we order. For ramen, I've tried the Black Garlic Tonkotsu and the Spicy Kimchi Tonkotsu. Both were good, but personally, I think their spicy ramen is the stronger choice. The Spicy Kimchi Tonkotsu is perfect when I want something warm, comforting, and a little spicy. It's not overwhelmingly hot, the broth has good depth, and the toppings feel generous. My girlfriend usually gets the Yummy Tummy, which is a salmon roll, and I've stolen enough bites to say it's legitimately good. The salmon tastes fresh, the ingredients are well-balanced, and the roll is seasoned nicely without being too heavy. At first, this was just a convenient neighborhood ramen and roll spot near my girlfriend's place. But after coming back multiple times, I realized I actually crave this place. It may not look like some flashy destination restaurant, but it's a genuinely good neighborhood spot that keeps me coming back. 5 stars from me. One thing I'll add is that my girlfriend has ordered delivery from here a few times, and she says it's not nearly as good as dining in. The food tastes much better when you eat it at the restaurant, and she also feels like the portions seem smaller with delivery. So if you're trying this place for the first time, I'd recommend eating there instead of ordering delivery.

As I was about to place my order at the kiosk, an employee informed me that only takeout orders were being accepted and that dine-in was no longer available. I was told this was due to a policy change from management. What I don't understand is that there was no notice posted anywhere about a dine-in cutoff time. Maybe this is normal for this restaurant, but it is not what most customers would expect. When a restaurant posts a break time of 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, most people assume that orders are accepted until 2:00 PM and that the break time begins at 2:00 PM. That has been my experience at most other restaurants. If dine-in service actually stops at 1:45 PM, then that information should be clearly posted at the entrance, on the kiosk, and online. Otherwise, customers may arrive before the posted break time and still be turned away for dine-in service. In my opinion, if customers need to finish their meals before 2:00 PM, then the restaurant should either post a dine-in cutoff time or list an earlier break time. Other restaurants with a 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM break time typically allow customers to enter and order before 2:00 PM. This appears to be an exception. I made a special trip to eat here and was disappointed by the lack of communication. Going forward, customers should know that a posted break time of 2:00 PM here may effectively mean you need to arrive early enough to finish your meal before 2:00 PM, not simply arrive before 2:00 PM. Because of this experience, I will think twice before returning during lunch hours.

A favorite amongst the group was the beef intestine, which I've never had before and was pretty impressed by. It was super juicy and paired well with the scallions and sauce. Another favorite of the group was the corn cheese. It was like a pizza but corn cheese. My absolute tried and true is the pork belly. It is soo good, especially with the kimchi, peppers, and roasted garlic cloves. It definitely is my personal favorite on their menu! I can definitely see why this place is so popular!

Don't drink their water here...the tea water... leftover tea water gets poured into the trash can…read moreand rescooped into previously used pitchers.. basically they would pour the leftover water in the same bucket of water and rinse the pitcher in the same bucket of water and stack them up for resuse for next customer. And their hands go inside everything. They grab the rinsed pitcher, scoop the tea water and serve it. Also mind you, the tea water is inside those huge trash cans. AND when they were transferring the ice (from again those trash bins) they would lift it to pour all the ice in to the tea water bin and you can see all the dirty drippings from the outside wheels drip inside the container.. @.@ No its not a one time thing with one employee...they all knew the drill and did it like routine. Me and my friends watched the whole thing while we were just trying to enjoy some drinks at the bar. It was so disgusting, my friends wanted to pay and leave quickly but NO theres no way im paying for the drink i only had a couple sips of and couldn't finish. So i told the manager, didnt pay and left. He was not shocked ... wonder why. And now im just telling all my close friends not to go here... digusting.
