My grandson graduated this year and will be a kindergarten in august he learned so much and most of the time love to go. The staff there is great. The lady in the school lobby was so nice she never made me feel bad when I would be dropping Rowdy off or picking him up and couldn't remember the procedure. I sent my 3 year old for just a semester- his first experience with school. He enjoyed it and the staff is very friendly & sweet to the kids. I never saw the staff act rude or mean towards the parents or children. It's a very clean facility and the check in/check out system made me feel very secure that there wouldn't be a mix up with my child. After all- you hear horror stories about kids getting mixed up, left somewhere, etc. My son mainly used his experience as a place to socialize- he didn't do much academics while there... which is fine, he's only 3 after all. Social skills = academics at that age. The only cons were that I didn't feel like the teachers communicated much with me- [I didn't ask many questions though as a preface to this explanation] and I felt like I was constantly missing details, but I didn't know to even ask. For example, I sent my child with a backpack and spare clothes (in case of accidents)every day he attended. Sometimes he'd come home, not in the clothes I packed for him if he had an accident. I was confused about who's clothes they were? And why wasn't the clothes I put in his backpack used? Was he in "loaner clothes"? If so, why wasn't his clothes I brought used? I would sometimes find soiled clothes in a baggie in his backpack- clothes that weren't his and he'd come home in the clothes I sent him in.... so he obviously didn't have an accident. I think they were another child's clothes put in my kid's backpack by mistake? But wouldn't it be obvious it wasn't his? He was in the same clothes I sent him, after all. I think I missed something on their policy regarding soiled clothing- but no one ever explained. I also sent him with a pull up diaper (for nap time) in his backpack daily- and often times it would be gone when I picked him up. But he would have accidents and be in different clothes some days, so he obviously didn't use the diaper during nap time. Where did the diapers go? Were they not being used, or being used for another child? I don't know. I didn't hear anything about their Christmas program until the day of, when the teacher asked if we would be attending. Which was very confusing to me, so I ended up missing it. I just felt like I wasn't getting the memo about events/policies/routines. Who knows. All in all it was a pretty positive experience. After all, the cleanliness of the facility and friendliness of the staff was great. Aside from what I pointed out above I didn't have any issues with the treatment of my child and he had fun while he attended. read more

My daughter started going here at 3 and I don't k ow why I didn't put her in sooner. She attend precious preschools/ daycare in Bakersfield prior. This is the best one is Bakersfield field. My daughter didn't have good speech prior to attending and really didn't know her alphabets. How to count, color, or shapes. Since attending she now now how to talk in full sentences knows her alphabets. Counting. Shapes. Colors and beyond. They have a great curriculum and my daughter is always happy to go to school. The environment is clean and they have healthy lunches. The staff and teachers are so loving and caring. I strongly recommend this preschool. My son has attended 3 different daycares and this place is amazing. My son LOVES going to class and his teachers. They are so kind and he's learning so much. They work with him on potty training, writing skills, and even teach him about Jesus (which is very important to me). I am so glad we were able to get him in! Our 2-1/2 year old has been going here for 3 weeks and loves it! Great staff and lots of activities.

Cons: Would have to be the teachers need to be more alive...smile, play and interact with the kids. Don't just sit at a table still and quiet. Greet the children with enthusiasm when they walk in. I don't know...act like you like your job and being a part of a child's growth. Let the parent(s) know what the child needs more help with (scholastically) so we can work at it at home. Pros: The layout of the day seems to be right for the age groups. Class sizes are good. Food seems nutritious. Price is fair. My child IS learning new things. I love the songs they teach them and the jobs the children pick out in the morning. I love that they pray!! read more

My daughter attended Small Wonders for 2 years and we are so sad to leave now that it's time for Kindergarten. Every time I took my daughter to school the teachers and staff would always say good morning and have a god day when leaving. Her teachers were always clear about things she had done in the day and times she may have gotten in trouble and told me what happened and how they handled it. I am so sad to say bye to Small Wonders, but I highly recommend them. read more

I second Tiffany G. Children that do not fit the mold are forced out. This is nothing but a business and they do their best to turn a profit (NOT Jesus) instead of being compassionate and helpful. I've witnessed this first-hand. The director will give you a big fake smile and tell you she is happy to have you while pushing you out of the door. They are not equipped, nor inclined to actually be considered a school. This is an over-priced day care. If you can choose another facility, I would highly suggest you do so. read more

If you want your child to go to a church based preschool, look elsewhere. We moved to the area and our son went straight from the other church preschool to this one. Long story short our son's time here did not go well. This is just another preschool with questionable leadership. The teachers are nice, but they have large classroom sizes. They use a ranking chart for the whole class to see. If your kid is quiet and sedentary, they will receive high marks. If your kid is active or chatty, low marks. He regularly came home telling me he made "bad choices" at school. Mind you he doesn't hit, he's not aggressive, doesn't bite, and gets along well with his other classmates. The fact he had trouble at this school but not the one he attended for 1.5 years is very telling. All preschools basically teach the same thing to your kiddos. Other church preschools will teach your kid the same thing as this one. Look for a place with more compassion. YMMV. read more

My 4 year old son loved this preschool. Of course it's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. All of their staff members were so kind and welcoming, and the teachers communicate with you everyday about how your child's day went, etc. We definitely miss this place now that he is no longer attending! read more

Though my child is "typical", I know two other families (one with a child with high functioning autism and another with a slight developmental delay) who both were made to feel extremely uncomfortable, at fault, and forced out of this program. Below is an email from me and then the directors response that didn't address any concerns of mine. "Ms. Haskell, I just wanted to express my disappointment in the way my child's behavior is being addressed. He has had daily incident reports written up due to him not keeping his hands to himself. I have worked in schools (as a behavior consultant) and in the behavior field for the past seven years and all of his behaviors are typical. I am not excusing his behavior and have given staff a plan to follow, a visual reinforcement system, and my personal information in order for them to give me any constructive feedback. I have not heard any feedback other than, 'he hit' or 'he threw a toy'. What I was hoping to hear was how your staff has worked with him on his issues, the steps they take to prevent instances (e.g., not seating him directly next to a friend during lunch if he has trouble keeping his hands to himself, which is another suggestion I made) or the consequences that take place (e.g., loss of a reinforcer, time-away, etc. also suggestions I made). Today is his 12th day in your program and yesterday, after only 11 days total, I was presented with a "discipline plan." Initially, I thought, 'Great, they are actually going to have a behavior plan to follow,' but when I realized it was really an exit plan, I was shocked to say the least. Behavior takes time to change. I couldn't fathom that your school gave us no options/suggestions as to how to proceed, other than having him leave the school because he doesn't fit into your "box" of how a child should behave. There was no mention or suggestion on your staff's end of any behavior modification techniques, potentially changing his classroom, having me shadow him a few hours a day, etc. Frankly, your staff simply does not care to work with him (I am not necessarily referring to his two teachers). I am extremely hurt that a Christian preschool would be so quick to toss out a child because he simply needed extra help, especially after I offered my own and said I would do whatever I could. I do not experience these negative behaviors with my child; he is extremely self-controlled and not impulsive in my home (though he is a silly 3 year-old of course). Your program and no tolerance for children like mine are definitely not a good fit for us. We would like to end our time with your program as soon as possible. I would like to be reimbursed for the remainder of the month and for the annual enrollemnt fee. I feel that's the least that can be done." RESPONSE: "We are sorry that your time at Small Wonders was not the experience you had hoped for. We strive to meet the needs of all children to the best of our ability keeping with the goals, philosophy and policies that we have in place. At the previous meeting you had with our staff members, you had expressed that you felt the atmosphere at our center was positive and "nice." After speaking with Lori about this email and after the conversation which I was involved with, we feel that we do use the positive reinforcement that is needed. When children do have situations we do take steps to help avoid incidents from occurring , i.e. not seating children next to each other if they seem to have issues, time away from an activity, redirection, and communication with parents. You did provide our staff with a plan which they supplemented with the behavior plan which is used for all children in the 3s and 4s classrooms, but it did not seem to help change Levi's behavior. We have spoken to you personally and have sent incident reports home on a regular basis to alert you to the incidents that have been occurring. It is our responsibility to provide a safe environment for both the children who attend and our staff members. Just as we would not allow other children to hit and kick Levi, we cannot allow Levi to hit and/or kick other children, which is violating the rights of the other children. After three weeks of seeing these behaviors, using our behavior plan and supplementing with your plan, and seeing no improvement, as per our school policy, we began our discipline plan. Our intent with putting this in place is to work more closely with parents to quickly remedy recurring situations to help a child have a successful school experience and to provide a safe environment for all children and staff. You had explained to us in our prior conversation that although you do not experience these behaviors at home, they have occurred at the gym and at church and you even stated that you became a Cubbies leader so that you could observe Levi in the group environment, and you did observe the behaviors in those scenarios and were concerned about it." I have two daughters attending this Preschool and I cannot be more satisfied with the teachers, director and staff members. I love seeing my daughters run to hug their current teacher or previous year's teachers. Kids don't lie, and when you see how they appreciate and love their teachers, you can tell how the teachers had treat and appreciate them as well. I am really impressed by my daughters progress overall. My oldest is starting to read (4 years old, soon to be 5) and I think they get really well prepared for Kindergarten. They learn important social skills such as waiting for your turn, respect for their friends, etc. Teachers and director are always open for concerns or just to communicate how each student is doing. I would recommend this place without a doubt. read more

I love love love this preschool! My 5 yr old graduated this June and all 3 years he was there, had the best teachers possible. My 2 yr is there now and she just loves all her teachers and the friends she has made. I love that they reinforce the Christian values that we set at home, and I love when they kids come on and tell me what they learned that day. Would recommend this place to everyone! read more
