I was fortunate to chaperone a field trip to the Calatrava with the group. Ms. Vera had prepared the students to the point that, when they experienced the art, it was like visiting a dear friend. I am certain that the best gift you can give your child is a solid educational foundation, and they will benefit from attending Morningstar for the rest of their lives.

Each child is given individual presentations according to his or her own interests and development. Each child is allowed freedom within limits to explore the environment, make choices, and utilize the materials at will. This allows the child the joy of discovery, the space and time to work at his/her own pace, the power to think for him/herself, the ability to problem-solve, to persist, and to gain the confidence, concentration, and the desire to learn more. There is no greater gift of education than for a child to become a joyful and motivated self-learner. In the child-centered Montessori environment, the Guide follows the child, and the child becomes the true teacher. The Guide "learns" how to truly assist each child, by utilizing the same techniques that Dr. Montessori used -- observing the child's needs and interests, then matching appropriate materials for the child's development. If the child is drawn to a particular material, he/she may choose to repeat it (repetition) over and over again until that skill is acquired. All of the materials are sequential in order of difficulty, and each child may begin according to his/her own ability.

I'm not known for long reviews here but I could write well not a book, but quite a brochure. EVERYONE at this school is amazing. I've had 4 children go through excellent high performing public schools in high income suburbs but North Shore exceeds them by a substantial margin. Do yourselves and your children the favor of visiting.

My child was around 2.5 when starting his first "school" experience here. He was part time (3 hours in the morning) and attended maybe a total of 5 or 6 school days before they told me they needed to unenroll him. The reasoning was regarding his emotional regulation. I could definitely see that he was having a hard time with emotional regulation - even at home. They also advised me to get him evaluated. I have no issues with getting my son help that he needs, but it did shock me to have such a strong response after barely knowing him and without giving him a chance to acclimate to a new environment. I asked for specific things that happened to understand what he was doing exactly that would result in him being unenrolled and the examples they gave were like "running around" and "struggling with the routine". I thought they were going to tell me he physically hurt someone or himself or that he was destructive to the classroom. I took time to reflect on their comments and spoke to his doctor. He did not have concerns and said that at 2.5 we cannot expect toddlers to have a grasp on their emotional regulation yet. Since this experience, he has now been in different schools where he is thriving. It's not due to smaller class ratios - the school he is in now has the same ratio and he is so happy to go to every day. I'm not sure what was going on at North Shore that made him so distressed. I believe if they gave him the opportunity to adjust he could have done well there too. Unfortunately, I think they only accept specific types of children that can follow very rigid routines. I chose a Montessori school because I thought the philosophy was to follow a child's lead as opposed to rigidity. I definitely acknowledge that my child was having a harder time managing his emotions (especially at that age), but parents of toddlers who are still learning how to regulate emotions and need more fluidity to just be a kid should be aware of this before enrolling. I also want to note that I find it extremely odd that you can't find reviews on this school. Google reviews are turned off, and there are only 2 posts on Facebook.

The lady I spoke with was so dry and seemed uninterested. Regardless, I scheduled a tour as maybe she was having a bad day and I realize that not everyone can be cheery all the time. :) The tour went well, and I made sure it was scheduled w/ another person. She was friendly and kind. I asked this lady for a packet or folder of information and she was surprised that the first lady I spoke with never emailed it to me. She took down my email address and said she would request that lady to send it to me. Guess what? I never received it! I just think that is horrible practice. I have enrolled my daughter elsewhere. But, I thought the business owner/manager should know about the incompetence of the person I dealt with. I am happy to speak further about it...as I don't want to call out this individual on a public platform.

Their communication is great, the Bright Wheel app they use is fantastic, and they are very accommodating in all the best ways, while continuing to do what's best for the kids. I've also been impressed with their willingness to help when we've needed assistance with our son's transition to kindergarten, even after our son was no longer enrolled there. Would recommend to anyone that they can trust them with their child's education, safety and wellbeing.
