Two weekends ago, my dear friend & her family plus my eldest daughter & I enjoyed a delicious All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) sushi dinner at Show Sushi in San Dimas. Afterwards, I suggested we get some ice cream from Rite-Aid. Hey, just because we had AYCE doesn't mean we can't have ice cream LOL. Well, it turned out Rite-Aid is no longer in business at that plaza... bummer, I used to go to that Rite-Aid to fill my prescriptions when I used to work in San Dimas. There was a sense of sadness as I had a nostalgic moment. I didn't tear, but if I thought long enough, I may have teared... it's just sensitive me. Anyway, we walked down the plaza and saw Smart & Final Extra. I said let's check it out... they may sell ice cream. Wowza, I did not know it is like a miniature Wal-Mart. It has changed a lot since the last time I step foot into a Smart & Final or maybe this one is different since it has Extra in its name... who knows. Nevertheless, glad to have them here. I walked around and finally arrived at the freezer section, and found my ice cream. Yay! Since we had a heavy dinner, we wanted something very light and small... Haagen-Dazs mini caught my eyes... BINGO! My friend got some avocados and we were on our way to the cash register. Staff was okay not too smiley. Prices for ice cream and avocados were reasonable. I have to say it is a cozy and quaint place. I may have to visit Smart & Final more often for some of my shopping needs. Stater Brothers may have some competition since that's where I normally shop for my fruits and vegetables LOL. I bought My Mochi ice cream 2 days ago. Today I opened the box and found that all 6 mochi balls were squished (see photos). How did they get destroyed so badly? The box was in good shape, but the mochi balls looked like they were dropped from a five story building. So disappointing!!! read more

I came here on 4/13 to buy some food for the upcoming Easter weekend. I picked up 4 different cheeses along with my other foods. Opened one of them today April 16th, a chipotle gruyere. Was surprised to find it had a real funky blue cheese flavor. It was terrible. Checked the expiration date, and it expired 7 months ago in September 2021. It prompted me to check the expiration date of the other cheeses. The brie I grabbed was also expired, but only a few days before purchase (4/9/22). I get it, it's only a few days. And I guess I should have checked the expiration date. But I never would expect it to see a product 7 months past the expiration. read more

I come here to get Torino syrups for our coffee and sodas. They only had 1 Grenadine syrup so had to settle for getting cherry syrup for my drinks. Store was clean. It wasn't super busy considering I came in after work at 5pm so check out was quick. read more

On June 14, I asked cashier about a purchase before I paid. She told me that yes I could do it and get a gift card. But no $20 voucher printed out. She said I was out of luck. Per my request, she called closing manager, Michael, who was just focused on closing out money rather than helping me. He said he didn't know how to fix the problem that the receipt didn't print out so I was out of luck. He didn't care and just wanted to keep counting the money. Smart & Final, you need to train closing mgr, Michael better. He provided horrible customer service to me. Watch your store cameras back. I won't be returning! Too many other nice markets in San Dimas Glendora area to be treated disrepectfully by Smart & Final San Dimas, esp. by a so called "manager". read more

At 4:45 today, my wife asked me to stop in and get some needed items. As I was exiting the store, I pushed my cart into a place that was for carts and across the aisle a young guy with dark hair with a hat on, yelled at me to take my cart with me. I said I didn't need it. He said to take it with me. I pushed the cart out of the cart stall, and made it as if it was in need of cleaning, since he was wiping down carts for the covid 19 issues. He yelled again at me, saying to take the cart. Unclear as to what he was demanding, I pushed it further away, but did not need to take it to the car since I had two items in my hand. I left the cart there for him to clean. It was at this time, the employee called me an... "Asshole". I turned to him and told him I did not deserve to be called and asshole. He ignored me, and so I went in and told the cashier he had called me an asshole. We stepped outside and he was headed in the other door to get away. If the covid 19 isn't enough, to go to the store only to get called an Asshole by a young employee because he was too lazy to do the job he was given. He was gifted enough to wipe down carts but had no manners at all. It's sad, I will not darken the doorsteps again. Management should fire this young entitled kid and make an example of him. He has no manners and is lucky to even have job, now he's insulting customers. read more

Employees are friendly , visited the store again Wednesday January 31st about 3ish went to buy fresh mushrooms and a white onion, the mushrooms were pretty much black and spongy so I didn't purchase them , the white onions were looking pretty bad but I managed to find a decent one! The produce smelled like always! The lines were long 2 check stands open and calls were made for back up checkers! To some time for one to come! I came out of the grocery industry and found not an ounce of urgency! A manager was stocking shelves! While I know the importance of stocking, that should be night crews job! The mgr should have stopped what he was doing and opened up or he should have called for back up! Who is the DM for that store? I wasn't the only one passing up on the produce. read more

This place is horrible. I was in earlier today just to grab a few things when I walked in between some gossip. These team members were talking about how uncomfortable and unprofessional their onsite leadership is. The managers fired another cashier not because they stole. NOPE it's because they forgot ONE small thing. The BOB I think. So they fired the person on this. Well as I tried hard not to listen it made me rather upset for this person. I mean maybe they were in the wrong seat but on the right bus. Maybe they were better at stocking but not a cashier. But I guess they felt it was best this way. Then my amazement became anger. These FOOLS let it slip their leaders fired this employee OVER THE PHONE. They didn't even have the courage or common courtesy to meet this employee. What leaders??!??. Remind me not to shop here again. I rarely give bad reviews (look through my ratings on here), but there is a time for everything. The two stars are for their overall low prices and for carrying bulk items. I guess you get what you pay for because based on my experience and the experiences of others, their customer service needs an overhaul. Then again, I get better treatment at Walmart. Anyway, I saw a light bulb on the shelf that I needed. The tag said it was on clearance, and the description on the tag looked like it was the right one. The bulb was the only one left, so I grabbed it. Once I'm at the register, the bulb rings up at full price. I even said to the cashier as she was ringing up my items that the bulb should be on clearance. You would think she would let me know if it scanned in at a different price. She says nothing. As I'm walking away, I look at my receipt and see that it was rung up at full price, so I turned around and told her this. I ask if I should go to customer service, and she tells me she'll help me. She proceeds to do some quick calculating on her cell phone and proceeds to take $3.25 out of the register and hands it to me. I'm puzzled because this is not how I'm used to people processing price corrections at a store, and it was the wrong amount. I tell her that the amount is wrong and ask if she can just scan it back in as a return and scan it back out. Basically, do the price correction the right way. She tries to tell me this is the right amount pointing to the discount on the receipt that was deducted for the spoon that I bought. I tell her the discount was for the spoon which was on sale. When I insist she do price correction the right way (because I want the tax accounted for correctly as well), she says something along the lines of "Oh my God," all exasperated. Well, excuse me. I'm not doing anything wrong, so why the short temper? It's your job to provide customer service, so maybe have some patience and be nice. So then she asks another cashier to help the other customers in line while she goes to the shelf. She comes back with the price tag I was looking at and tries to put it in and scans the bulb again. It still rings up at full price. She then proceeds to tell me it's not on sale. I try to tell her that the description on the tag looks the same. She tells me, "I think I know what I'm doing." Maybe you shouldn't work in customer service if your insecurities are so easily triggered by confusion over a price. It's not about you. It's about the price. I asked her which ones were on clearance then, and she said there were no more. Exasperated, I eventually just took my stuff and left. Even if the bulb really wasn't on clearance, she could have just nicely shown me that this was the case. How is a customer supposed to know when the tags look like they are the right ones? As for the store, maybe the price tags need to be clearer. I usually shop at places like Trader Joe's, Target, Vons, and Stater Bros. This kind of thing doesn't happen to me at those stores. I rarely step foot into a Smart and Final, and unfortunately, one of the few times I do, this is the experience I get. No thanks. read more

I'll tell it like it is then I'll tell it how it could be... - 3 Stacks. The largest issue with this store is the inconsistency of product availability...if I may be so formal. Simply put, one day I can go in and get hella organic fruit, the next I am making a pointless trip for an empty organic section. I can get a bevy of shrimp...then the next time they are out (Pro Tip: Go to Trader Joe's for the Argentinian Red Shrimp in lieu of Smart and Final's version...bigger for the same price). Smart and Final, as a brand, tries to be all things to all people. This is why I can get eggs, milk, deodorant, light bulbs, aluminum foil, charcoal, garlic, and baby soap in one trip. That's fine. But if you're looking for something in particular, like organic selection, grass fed meat, specialty wine...the pickings are slim. The best part of this particular place is that the employees are friendly. Friendly like when you are walking around the store and only the two of you are in the aisle and you have to awkwardly walk past them...they will make eye contact and smile. All the time. S&F is fine for overall shopping but if you have some pet brands at other stores (like Argentinian Reg Shrimp) then go ahead and make the trip elsewhere. Lots of parking, though. read more

Yep, going 4 stars on this one. I am glad I waited till I visited this new S&F a few times to review. The first visit was rough; in retrospect it was probably because they were having "just opening" pains. I am worried they will not build the clientele to compete with big bad Sam's and Costco. I besiege you, Covina and San Dimas neighbors: please go and support this store. Why? I'll tell you why: 1. The produce is priced well, clean and fresh. 59-99cents lettuce! 4.98 for an entire BOX of nice beefsteak tomatoes! 2. Amazingly large choice of frozen food. Many items are very well priced: 3.19 for a box of hashbrowns as long as my arm. 3. All the great party-ware is here! GIANT salad bowls you can bathe in if you wanted to! Industrial sized packages of napkins, boba straws, foil pans, and plastic containers/lids. 4. Their brand, First Street, of sauces, pastas, salad dressing, is quality stuff! I am really glad they replaced that Ralphs. We needed a store like this in my area. A great option. read more

I love most Smart & Final stores. This one is one of my favorite. It's huge. Clean. Large selection of veggies, fruits, frozen foods, meats and most items. I also love how each registered has its own "street name". I do not care for some of the cashiers. One in particular from this morning. She was nice and smiled, but only bagged most of my items. I ended up putting them in the cart myself. I mean, once she was done, shouldn't that be the next thing they do? She just stood there. I didn't know I'm in "Food 4 Less"... bag your own groceries store. Then, there was a sale on their cereal. According to what was written on the wall, you get a discount if you purchase two or more. I brought that to her attention, and she said I needed to get three or more for the discount to kick in. I told her what I read on the wall, and she continued to with "no, it not two, it's. It's even right here on my computer (or register)". Hmmm... then maybe i'm seeing things. It's only a few dollar, no stinky big deal, right? So, after I paid and was leaving the store, I took a walk over to the wall, where I read the info on the sale. I wanted to prove to myself, that I was not seeing things, that she's sorely mistaken. YUP... I did see TWO!!! I read it out loud for her to hear, and another employee walked up to me. I told him that the cashier's register has the wrong information, compared to what's written on the wall. That its false advertising or misleading. Call it whatever you want. No big deal... its an honest mistake. Hopefully, they will change it. I walked out of there with the "I told you so" attitude. read more

The store is small but everything was clean and easy to find. Didn't get the name of the cashier but she was very pleasant and that goes a long way in my book. I've recently started shopping here and I don't think I'll ever go back to another grocery store. I'm amazed at the low prices and quality. They produce is always delicious and they have a good selection of basic groceries and some surprise finds like cotton candy. It's nice to not have to buy 100 of something like a Costco. Regarding our hoarding for corona virus pandemonium and comparing this store to Walmart, Sam's Club and Costco: I want to say that this was thee only store where we found a shopping cart and the only store that had no lines to get in. From the moment you walk in there was plenty of fresh fruits and veggies and all of the freezer and fridges had plenty of foods and drinks all across their back walls. Yes the isles had some bare spots but you have to think about shelf life and get creative with the foods that are still on shelves. All of the cashiers were open and all of them had attendants helping bag your groceries and yes they smiled and kept calm and even carried quick convo with us customers but their hands kept working quick as well. I want to sincerely thank this Smart & Final staff for all they do and especially in these tough conditions because we are all simply hoarding and many stores have never experienced this. read more

They always have special on 30 calorie unsweetened vanilla Silk Almond Milk( 2 in pack). Costco only gas the 60 calorie milk. Also discovered they carry Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa, which is similar to Dutch cocoa. I use it to make my chocolate baked goods extra chicolatey. Another find is the small specialty flour section, which has Bob Mills flours. The almond meal is also priced a bit lower than the nearby health food store. So glad that a new grocery store took the place of Ralph's but but also offers bulk items with regular produce. read more

I tend to go to Costco for my large shopping needs........then I tend to OVERSPEND. There is a Smart & Final in Pomona, but I find it a bit sketchy. This is a great addition to San Dimas, just down the road from Costco.The store is very clean, spacious, and has beautiful fruit and vegetables. Service was better and faster than I expected for opening day. The staff was friendly and there plenty for the grand Opening. if you stick to the ad you will get some very good deals. Their prices for the staples meat bread milk etc was on the higher side of the local chains. Its nice to have them in the old Ralphs location for convenience. This grocery store is so conveniently located next to my workplace that it's just a 5 min walk away. Not only that, I love it here! You got your basic selections and varieties. What really makes this place great to me is the customer service and the cleanness/neatness of it. The staff is really friendly and the lines move quick. I love how each stand is not numbered, instead it goes by local street names. Little things like that make this place great. I would imagine locals love it just as much. You may be telling yourself, it's a grocery store. Either you like it or you don't. Come in for yourself and check it out. read more

This morning I was in line with 7-8 other customers and only 1 line open. 2 customers had to ask the female cashier to call for help and she didn't. Finally when it was my turn (15 min later) the cashier had to call the managers due to their key pad (for payment ) froze. 2 managers (Dan, Gina) showed up. Nice new store. Unfortunately it is always out of at least one or two of the items I need. Today it was some red food coloring. 20 bottles on the shelf of green, blue, and yellow....sold out of red. It's not coming for two days. My complaint is...why? Why not carry more of the only color that's selling. Just frustrating why the managers never see that coming on certain items that are always in high demand. Would give the store a better score if they could keep their shelves stocked and save me from making another trip. read more

I've gone to this location on a few occasions around the dinner hour to pick a roasted chicken only to find they were out. This last visit they said it would be 40 minutes for more chicken. Very frustrating. I would think they'd realize how well they sell and have a full rack at the dinner hour ready to go. That would be good management. They've lost my business.
