This is the preschool and TK of my dreams. My child loves this place and the teachers and plays her heart out. Supportive, clean, nurturing place to explore and learn new things and make new friends. Lovely variety of art projects and the kids spend a good amount of time outdoors. Field trip together to the pumpkin patch coming up soon. I wish we had started earlier! I see some negative comments on here that are completely unwarranted. Of course no school is the right fit for everyone, however in the case of a few comments I smell a rather large rat. I'm aware of a disgruntled former employee who is a generally angry person and has close ties and a heavy influence over some current and former families. Please visit this lovely school for yourself and form your own opinions. Reviews are meant to be helpful to the general consumer. They are not intended to do harm or feed vengeance. That's just sad. Yes, I am a teacher at a Smart Start school. I have spent time at the Auburn location. I felt welcomed and quickly bonded with the wonderful kids and families there. I leave this review on my own. I was not asked to leave it. As stated above "no school is the right fit for everyone", but I can say I have spent 14 years teaching here and I have never been a part of a team of ECE teachers who care more about their students and families. I had high hopes for this school, but ended up very disappointed. Half way thru the 2019-2020 school year they decided to split up the students. This was very confusing for this kids, and no one cared how the parents or children felt. Good luck if you go here and decide to speak up. Be prepared to be treated differently. Update* Since writing my review the director has now tried to call me a liar, and a teacher from the SS Loomis location has written a review. We had such a wonderful experience at Smart Start. We were a little leery to enroll because of an unpleasant experience we had at a local corporate daycare. The campus is very conveniently located, very cute and secure. The classrooms were always clean and smelled pleasant. That being said, the best part Smart Start was the staff. Our sons teacher Ms. Alexis is fun, creative, musical, spontaneous, funny, and just wonderful. She was excellent at communicating daily about my sons day. Plus would post pictures and relay any funny or interesting stories from his day at school. She always had fun super creative activities for them and silly songs she would sing to them. My son seriously loved being in her class and would look forward to going every day. All the 'afternoon' staff was also just as pleasant and always had something to tell me about my sons day which after being away from him all day was very nice to hear. I would recommend Smart Start to anyone who wants their kiddo to have the best pre-school learning experience in the area! read more

We love the teachers and sense of community at Smart Start. The teachers are all so sweet, creative, and nurturing. The playground (and the fact that they spend so much time outside!) are true highlights. My oldest child (now ten) still remembers playing there as a preschooler on the huge wooden play structure and now my third child gets to enjoy it as well. My three year old daughter is always happy to go to school and comes home full of dirt and paint and stories and is ready for a nap just like it should be! read more

The thing that sets Smart Start apart from other preschools is their focus on age appropriate, FUN learning. Every week or so they have a new theme: (Ocean, Space, Insects, etc.) and all their activities in reading, science, fine motor, music, math, etc. are based around that theme. Always a ton of awesome sensory activities to do. It gets the kids fully engaged and keeps them interested! The teachers are very kind, nurturing and easy to communicate with. Their outside play area is the BEST I've ever seen! They encourage exploration, getting messy, and they go outside in the rain to stomp in puddles. My son can't wait to go to school in the morning. (I wish I could go too!) This will be my son's third year with Smart Start and baby brother will be joining him in the winter. We love it! read more

Smart Start has been an excellent experience! My 2 year old has been attending for 7 months. She felt comfortable, excited and safe since her first day there. The teachers are kind, loving and skilled in what they do. They provide a nurturing and enriching environment. The teachers post many photos to the private page to give you a look into daily activities. The classrooms are clean and decorated with the kids creative art projects. I like the added activities like field trips, holiday performances, socials and theme days/ weeks. I am always impressed by what new knowledge, skills and confidence my child comes home with. I have had at least one of my kids at Smart Start Auburn since 2019. I cannot say enough about this school. The teachers are all amazing and care about the kids so much. My oldest was very well prepared for kindergarten and learned much more than I ever expected at a preschool. The kids spend a lot of time playing outside and exploring. My daughter attended Smart Start and it was a really wonderful experience. The teachers are so kind and I can tell they really love the kids. My daughter's favorite teacher was Ms Alexis. She was very welcoming and made each child feel special. Their classroom was so bright and cheerful. Ms Alexis brought the kids unique items that really encouraged imagination play. The kids had a globe, an old espresso machine (they loved playing barista!), and they would listen to music from around the world while they did arts and crafts. Ms. Alexis even wrote a very special and unique haiku about each child when they graduated. I definitely recommend the Smart Start preschool program. read more

We love our teachers, Ms. Devi and Ms. Juliah, from the Imagineers class! Our son protests coming home everyday and has a best friend obsession with Ms. Kaia. The exposure to the class pet Guinea pig and play yard chickens has instilled a passion and kindness for different animals we love to see. So many fun activities each day with great photo updates to the class pages - appreciate these so much. The outdoor exploration and experience, as well as the classroom lessons, have provided great value and we're happy to be a part of the SmartStart family. read more

I had my doubts about starting my son in a preschool even though I knew he needed it before starting kindergarten next year. He was a clinger: would scream and cry and FLIP OUT when I tried to leave him anywhere, even with a friend or if I was still visible (like gymnastics class). Anyway, I developed a game plan with his teacher, Ms. Judy so I could drop him off confidently... ...he must have realized how special this place was because the first day he simply said "bye mom." And that was that. Within one week, he went from scribbling all over the page yo coloring in lines beautifully. He went from struggling socially to maki nag lots and lots of friends. His personality has simply bloomed there and I couldn't be happier with our choice of pre-schools. The fact that his teachers post pictures on the private class Facebook page is pretty awesome as well. He and I sit down and go through the pictures, which helps me learn who his friends are and helps him recall his day as he is telling me about it. Finally, my son is mad at me for not signing him up all day every day of the week. He keeps asking if he can stay at school when I pick him up (and he is always outside when I get him...they play outside a lot, which I love). I think that in itself says pretty great things about the school! read more

We have been so happy with Smart Start! Our now 7 year old did TK here and was more than prepared for kindergarten. Everyday, our three year old asks to go to school and loves all of her teachers. Being a preschool teacher previously, I knew exactly what I wanted for my youngest while I went to work. I toured several schools and eventually thought I would have to settle for something that was a little less than what I wanted. Then I found Smart Start, everything about it was perfect. My youngest has been there for almost a month now and she talks about her teachers, Ms. Shanna and Ms. Agusta all the time. She is excited about school and when I drop off my little one at school I have no worry that she is safe and well taken care of. I am so excited that my child is attending such a great school. read more

My daughter spent her last year of preschool here and I was very unhappy with the way the school was run and the way the administration treated the parents. I also know from speaking to other parents that I am not alone in this feeling. The teachers my daughter had were fabulous and we adored them (which is the only reason we stayed) BUT because SS treats there teachers and families so poorly none of those teachers will be returning next year. Smart start is all about the bottom line and keeping costs low NOT what is best for students. The school is not handling the covid situation well. My daughter was moved to a new class mid year against my wishes. Other families have children who were forced to nap when the parent requested not to anymore because of ratios. The school was sited more than once while we were there for being out of ratio. I do not recommend sending your child to this school. read more

My children are offered a healthy balance of play & age appropriate academics.
