When I attended auditions in Minneapolis a year ago, it was on a whim. I had recently retired from my career in real estate and while asking friends for advice on what I should do next with my life, three of them had told me that I should become a mature model. I didn't quite believe them, but looked forward to the experience of the audition - I had nothing to lose. When I was told to speak to the agent after being evaluated by the initial judges, I was more than surprised. After I met with the agent (Tammy) and interviewed with her and became one of 20+ people chosen out of over 300 to advance to the second cut the following day, I was in shock! But when I became one of the handful of finalists chosen to participate in Launch Chicago, I pinched myself for days afterwards!! In that interview, Tammy had told me that I had "presence." That was not a word I would have ever used to describe myself. Tammy and Becky both felt not only could I model, but because I had majored in Theatre and had done well with the cold reading for commercials for them, I should consider doing a monolgue in Chicago. After our first rehearsal together, I told Tammy that I didn't realize that the audition was for singers as well, and I wish that I had because I was a gospel singer and would have liked her to evaluate my ability to sing professionally. She said - "Sing something now." So in a room at the Minneapolis Convention Center, I belted out a song from my distant past...and she was able to work it out for me to sing on stage in Chicago as well! Fast forward to Chicago in June, 2013. This 62 year old woman walked on stage and participated in every category except dance! From the time I stepped off the stage after performing until I left the next day, I had people come up to me and tell me that I was inspirational for them; one woman from the Chicago area whose daughter was a participant told me that she had been a blues singer for years, and after watching me, she knew that was something she should be doing again and thanked me. "Presence" and "Inspirational," were never words that I would have EVER used to describe myself, but now, "Truly Blessed" WOULD be. Since that first trip to Minneapolis from a small town 6 miles from the South Dakota border, I have walked the runway in four inch heeled boots with children young enough to be my grandchildren and I have started to audition for plays and films. (I have recently moved to a condo in downtown Minneapolis. Tammy and Becky have done their part - I had to do mine...which included moving, because after I blew a chance at a part in a major motion picture due to logistics; I will never allow that to happen again.) Oh yes - that sort of thing CAN and DID happen...and in my case, it was all because Tammy saw something beyond what I thought I was capable of showing her. SMASH talent has given my two BOYS something to look forward to in the modeling and acting industry. They are so friendly and informative! But most of all they are blunt and to the point! If they think something is or isn't a good 'fit' for you, they will let you know. The continued support is amazing! Anytime I've had a question they were there for us...no hesitations. Love Smash: I have a daughter that wanted to audition for smash and you guessed it, mom was hesitant. What is this, how much money, is it legitimate......yes to all. Great talent agents are the ones that can find, market, & nurture an actor/model/performer's career, and that is exactly what SMASH Talent does.
